14. SOUNDBITE (English) Elista Istre, Park Ranger at the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve:
The Acadians left, they were a group of peasants and they left France in 1604, and they arrived in Nova Scotia, a region in Canada. After about 150 years of living there, they were sent into exile by the British, and for the next ten years, they were wandering from basically one continent to another looking for a homeland. The Spanish, who were actually in control of the Louisiana colony at the time, invited them to come and settle in the area. So the first Acadian exiles started arriving around 1765, ten years after the exile took place, and they made Louisiana their home.

17. SOUNDBITE (English) Elista Istre, Park Ranger at the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve:
So a fiddler had a lot of competition for noise. After a while whenever the Germans came in, the Germans introduced the accordion to the musical repertoire and the accordion became very popular because it's a louder instrument so people didn't have to struggle to hear the beat of the music quite as hard. And so before amplification the fiddle tunes nearly died out. After amplification came into the music scene, now when you see a typical Cajun band they almost always have not only a fiddle but also an accordion in the music.

Welcome to my youtube channel! My name is Jarek and thank you for visiting my page. If you like my video, please subscribe my channel. Thank you and have a nice day! New Orleans is a consolidated city-parish located along the Mississippi River in the southeastern region of the U.S. state of Louisiana. With an estimated population of 393,292 in 2017, it is the most populous city in Louisiana. A major port, New Orleans is considered an economic and commercial hub for the broader Gulf Coast region of the United States. New Orleans is world-renowned for its distinct music, Creole cuisine, unique dialect, and its annual celebrations and festivals, most notably Mardi Gras. The historic heart of the city is the French Quarter, known for its French and Spanish Creole architecture and vibrant nightlife along Bourbon Street. The city has been described as the most unique in the United States, owing in large part to its cross-cultural and multilingual heritage. Founded in 1718 by French colonists, New Orleans was once the territorial capital of French Louisiana before being traded to the United States in the Louisiana Purchase of 1803.

Intersecting U.S. Highway 190 and Interstate 10, the I-49 Midway is comprised of and supported by an eight-member local municipal and parish government group who are coordinating and cooperating continuously on focused economic development.
Providing a broad spectrum of resources, assets, and services to local, regional and national businesses and corporate entrepreneurs, the I-49 Midway is united in an adopted comprehensive corridor plan and priority implementation. Transportation access, land use, sewer, finance, water, transit, fiber optics, work force availability and training options, electrical power grid, aesthetics and even cultural advantages are readily available to meet business needs.
Interstate 49 Midway is conveniently located to access major markets in the state of Louisiana and southern United States. Corridor development is spearheaded by the I-49 Midway Task Force which coordinates and expedites development regulatory procedures and options among member governments. The Midway Corridor Plan is based on a framework of incentives and options for property owners, developers, businesses, and corporations.
Who and what is currently available in the I-49 Midway Corridor is inventoried and maintained by the I-49 Midway Task Force and can be readily consulted. The I-49 Midway Comprehensive Corridor Plan and associated ancillary components are available on the web for reference.
Economic development encompasses many elements including, but not limited to, housing, recreation, education, sports, health, religion and culture being directly and indirectly related to many objectives in commercial enterprise. There are several unique advantages to living and working in the I-49 Midway Corridor: Topographic diversity of the Coteau Ridge, French language immersion for all ages, shared equity housing finance, blend of native American Atakapa, Acadian, French, Creole, African, Spanish, and American cultures in food, music, dance, and games. The arts are well vested in both visual and performing venues. Sport complexes for all manner of competition are the envy of most communities. Wellness, fitness and medical centers are directly and conveniently located in the I-49 Midway. Quality of life is a very subjective reference for each employer and employee and the I-49 Midway has it across all levels of interest and need.
In summary, the I-49 Midway Comprehensive Plan is a coordinated resource of opportunities for businesses and residents to be taken advantage of and utilized to fullest extent. There are Corridor Plan implementation priorities centered on transportation access and fiber communication. Research, evaluate, analyze and consider the possibilities. Bienvenu.

Baker Island Boat Cruise
Each summer, from mid-June through mid-September, a local company offers a five-hour boat cruise to remote, ocean-sculpted Baker Island, as interpreted by an NPS park ranger. A short jaunt on a motorized launch is required to complete the journey, however. Since some visitors with mobility impairments may not be able to participate in the experience, the park commissioned this video by Will Greene, a local filmmaker. Theory and Practice of Folklore in Cajun & Creole Louisiana
Barry Jean Ancelet discusses his fieldwork and current research, addressing the relationship between the theory and practice of folklore, between what folklorists think and how they convey the results of that thought to diverse audiences, including academic colleagues, cultural specialists and the general public. Although some folklorists have seen a dichotomy between thought and action, Ancelet has always seen them as inextricably integrated. He says that while he is more interested in discussing practice than theory, both are always in play.
Speaker Biography: Folklorist and University of Louisiana professor Barry Jean Ancelet is a leading scholar, author, expert and activist in the revival and revitalization of Cajun and Creole music and culture in Louisiana. He has been a leader not only in the academic study of Cajun and Creole folk culture, but in creating archives where the culture has been preserved, and festivals and other programs where the culture has been shared with diverse audiences. He is also a poet, songwriter and singer, and his 2016 CD with Sam Broussard, Broken Promised Land, was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Regional Roots Music category.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
Acadia National Park is an American national park located in the state of Maine, southwest of Bar Harbor. The park preserves about half of Mount Desert Island, many adjacent smaller islands, and part of the Schoodic Peninsula on the coast of Maine. Acadia was initially designated Sieur de Monts National Monument by proclamation of President Woodrow Wilson in 1916. Sieur de Monts was renamed and redesignated Lafayette National Park by Congress in 1919—the first national park in the United States east of the Mississippi River and the only one in the Northeastern United States. The park was renamed Acadia National Park in 1929. More than 3.5 million people visited the park in 2017.
Native Americans of the Algonquian nations have inhabited the area called Acadia for at least 12,000 years. They traded furs for European goods when French, English, and Dutch ships began arriving in the early 17th century. The Wabanaki Confederacy has held an annual Native American Festival in Bar Harbor since 1989. Samuel de Champlain named the island Isle des Monts Deserts (Island of Barren Mountains) in 1604. The island was granted to Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac by Louis XIV of France in 1688, then ceded to England in 1713. Summer visitors, nicknamed rusticators, arrived in 1855, followed by wealthy families, nicknamed cottagers as their large houses were quaintly called cottages. Charles Eliot is credited with the idea for the park. George B. Dorr, the Father of Acadia National Park, along with Eliot's father Charles W. Eliot, supported the idea through donations of land, and advocacy at the state and federal levels. John D. Rockefeller Jr. financed the construction of carriage roads from 1915 to 1940. A wildfire in 1947 burned much of the park and destroyed 237 houses, including 67 of the millionaires’ cottages.
The park includes mountains, an ocean coastline, coniferous and deciduous woodlands, lakes, ponds, and wetlands encompassing a total of 49,075 acres (76.7 sq mi; 198.6 km2) as of 2017. Key sites on Mount Desert Island include Cadillac Mountain—the tallest mountain on the eastern coastline and one of the first places in the United States where one can watch the sunrise—a rocky coast featuring Thunder Hole where waves crash loudly into a crevasse around high tides, a sandy swimming beach called Sand Beach, and numerous lakes and ponds. Jordan Pond features the glacially rounded North and South Bubbles (rôche moutonnées) at its northern end, while Echo Lake has the only freshwater swimming beach in the park. Somes Sound is a five-mile (8 km) long fjard formed during a glacial period that reshaped the entire island to its present form, including the U-shaped valleys containing the many ponds and lakes. The Bass Harbor Head Light is situated above a steep, rocky headland on the southwest coast—the only lighthouse on the island.
The park protects the habitats of 37 mammalian species including black bears, moose and white-tailed deer, seven reptilian species including milk snakes and snapping turtles, eleven amphibian species including wood frogs and spotted salamanders, 33 fish species including rainbow smelt and brook trout, and as many as 331 birds including various species of raptors, songbir ...
