Edinburgh Night Run Part 5 Alone through Edinburgh and onto Fordel
VMCC Reivers Section. An all night run for motorcycles over 25 years old, from Newcastle upon Tyne to Edinburgh and back. The route uses as much of the old A1 as possible. This includes going through the town centres of Morpeth, Felton, Alnwick, Berwick, Haddington, Musselburgh and Edinburgh. The return journey follows the A7 out of Edinburgh to Dalkeith, then the A68 over the top of the Soutra, through Lauder, Jedburgh and over Carter Bar. From there it is down through Otterburn, Belsay, Ponteland and back to Newcastle.
After stopping to assist a fellow rider who had a puncture, just outside Haddington, I continued riding alone into Edinburgh. I headed for the meeting point in Regent Road, but found the main group of riders had already left, so made my way through the busy streets around the Royal Mile. Quite an experience, as taxis were flying about everywhere, and drunks were wandering into the road. I eventually navigated my way out of the city centre, and found the road towards Dalkeith, and the petrol stop at Fordel.
