ONE BILLION RISING IN ETHIOPIA
On February 14, 2013 at 10:00 am, over 200 students of the Italian School and 100 students of the Don Bosco School in Mekanissa of Addis Ababa interrupted their lessons, RISE UP, run to the schoolyard and threw a flash mob to the rhythm of Ethiopian music.
This action promoted the rights and equality of women, too often violated, in order to make them a reality for all.

Martyrs’ Monument Yekatit 12 Addis Ababa
Martyrs’ Monument (Yekatit 12)
The obelisk (monument) was inaugurated on February 1942 in memory of the citizens of Addis Ababa killed in the Italian Fascist Massacre of February 1937 and it tells the world (and reminds Ethiopians) about the wild acts and genocide of the fascist Italians through Graziani. An attempt on the life of the Fascist Viceroy Graziani, by tow Ethiopians, in February 1937 provoked the Italian to unleash a three-day reign of terror in the course of which thousands of innocent Ethiopian citizens, including aged people, children, and pregnant women were killed in cold blood by bayonets, guns, spades and many of houses burnt down.
The entire horror and terrorist action befallen on the citizens of Addis Ababa is depicted in bas-relief on the 28-Meter of the monument made by two Yugoslavia architects. In addition, the massacre was narrated by bronze letters carved on open-book-like stones on four directions around the obelisk. But unfortunately these letters are today removed away by unknown body and taken forever. Every year, people of Addis Ababa celebrate this day. The monument represents a white obelisk where the scenes of massacre and the funerals of the victims are depicted. This monument is also called the Monument of Martyrs or Sidist Kilo (Six Kilometer), that is, the name of the quarter where the monument is located.

Ethiopian Airlines New Route to Manchester - 787 PRESS FLIGHT, Celebration Ceremony and RAMP TOUR
December 11th 2018, Ethiopian Airlines launched their new 4x weekly route to Manchester Airport.
This service which will operate on Tuesday’s, Wednesday’s, Friday’s and Sunday’s from Addis Ababa via Brussel and will be operated by the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft.
This route will connect passengers from Manchester to over 118 different destinations across the continually expanding Ethiopian Airlines international and domestic markets across Asia, Africa and America.
Manchester becomes the 2nd UK airport, after London Heathrow, to be served by Ethiopian Airlines. The flight will arrive from Brussels at 07:25 and depart at 18:05 (all times local)
In celebration of the new route the Airport and Ethiopian Airlines held a special ‘press and media’ event including a special ‘jolly flight’ around the UK.
At the gate a celebration ceremony took place, where guests were treated to food and refreshments along with traditional African dancers performing. The Ethiopian Airlines GCEO Tewolde Gebremariam along with representatives from the airport gave speeches to the audience before a gift exchange and cake cutting took place.
After that it was time to board. The aircraft was in a 3-3-3 configuration and we were seated in seat 16A. We departed Manchester just after 11:30am, heading out to the North Sea.
During the flight, press and media had the chance to visit Ethiopian’s cloud nine business class to view the product and serve offered. This cabin is in a 2-2-2 configuration.
Personal also had chance to chat to officials from Ethiopian Airlines and Manchester Airport officials during the flight.
Passengers also received a meal and drinks service, serving authentic Ethiopian cuisine.
After 2 hours in the air, the flight returned to Manchester.
The product and service offered onboard was truly fantastic and the new connection is a great boost for Manchester Airport.
This is one of many new routes/connections Manchester Airport has managed to secure in the last few years along with mainland China, India and a number of major US cities.
We would like to thank all officials from both the airline and airport involved in organising todays event.
