Walks in Shropshire: Acton Burnell Castle
I am out with Harriet and Lola the Dachshund exploring the manor house of Robert Burnell in the quaint village of Acton Burnell in Shrosphire.
The manor house was built in 1284 by Robert Burnell, Bishop of Bath and Wells, friend and advisor to King Edward I. Its position was important at the time because it was near to the old Roman road of Watling Street. The extent of the estate is not known, as much of the building has been completely destroyed or remains undiscovered. It would have been substantial enough to accommodate Edward I and his retinue, soldiers and advisers, but was never an actual castle.

Short history about castles.
Stokesay castle
Step into the finest and best-preserved fortified medieval manor house in England.Discover the great hall, unchanged for over 700 years.
Spot characters carved in the timbers of the 17th-century gatehouse and climb to the top of a fairy-tale tower for breath-taking views of the Shropshire Hills.
Stokesay Castle was constructed at the end of the 13th century by Laurence of Ludlow, who at the time was one of the richest men in England.
It remains a treasure by-passed by time, one of the best places to visit in England to experience what medieval life was like.
Acton Burnell castle
Tucked away in a quiet part of Shropshire is the graceful red sandstone shell of Acton Burnell Castle.
It was built between 1284 and 1293 by Bishop Burnell,Edward I's Lord Chancellor, and Parliaments were held here twice,in 1283 and 1285.By 1420,the castle was abandoned, and it was allowed to decay while a new house,Acton Burnell Hall, was built beside it.
Nonetheless, the castle remains an impressive example of a medieval fortified manor house.
Whittington castle
Remains of extensive Medieval Marches castle. The original Norman motte-and-bailey fortification was rebuilt in the 13th century, including the stone curtain wall, inner bailey and outer gatehouse with its 42 foot long drawbridge. As a castle of the Welsh Marches,it was built on the border of Wales and England and provided excellent views towards Offa's Dyke over which Welsh raiders frequently invaded.
Although added to and improved in the mid-14th century, the castle gradually fell into disrepair so that by 1392 it was declared to be 'utterly in ruins'.

The question in the title has been asked by thousands over 100s of years in diffrent locations, the answear to the question for me is 1 million percent yes they do, most people belive, most don't.
Am I pushing people to belive, absolutely not you all have your own opinions on weather ghosts are real, but if your one of those who say no they don't, look deep inside of your self and ask your self this, do you truly belive they don't exist or are you just scared of the unknown and refuse to belive.

ACTON BURNELL CASTLE - SHROPSHIRE.
RUINS OF AN OLD CASTLE.
Acton Burnell castle walkthrough part 1
Acton Burnell Castle is a 13th century fortified manor house, built between 1284-93 by Bishop Burnell, Edward I's Lord Chancellor. It is believed that the first Parliament of England at which the Commons were fully represented was held here in 1283. Today all that remains is the outer shell of the manor house and the gable ends of the barn. This site is maintained by English Heritage.
The castle’s location was important when built in the 13th century because it was near the Old Roman road (Watling Street). Defence was never a major goal of the building, the structure started out as a manor house, then a fortified manor house and then finally because of licence became a castle.
A fortified building required a licence from the King and because Burnell was a friend and an advisor to King Edward I, this was not a problem. The timber for the structure even came from the King’s royal forests.
The building was 3 stories high, affording good views of the countryside and grounds. There was a hall, solar (private areas for the lord and family), bedrooms, offices, chapel and kitchen. To those who have studied the building, the curious thing is that studies have not uncovered evidence of a large fireplace which would have been commonplace in this type of dwelling.

Mini investigation of Acton Burnell Castle, Shropshire
We did a quick spirit box session, took a few pictures, and tested out a couple of apps, one was the Wooden Box by Spain Paranormal, we didn't rate this, it just seemed to be a lot of noise, and no clear communication. The second app was Paratek, we liked that, however, a lot of the words that came up were not very relevant, so we think it warrants further testing.
