Polunin & Zakharova, How The Partnership Began

Giselle introduced them to each other and the rest is dance cinematic history. In 2015, Zakharova was looking for a partner for a new production by the Bolshoi. She needed an Albrecht for her Giselle. Her search ended when she met Sergei Polunin.

The resulting ballet was a masterpiece. Chosen to be a part of the Dance At The Cinema series, the performance was captured live on October 11, 2015 and has been shown again and again in cinemas all over the world.

Sergei Polunin is a Ukrainian-born, Russian ballet dancer. Famous for his “once every hundred years” talent, he has incredulous elevation and impeccable technique. From an early age, he displayed glorious dramatic range. Home videos of him as a tiny boy improvising to Pavarotti are very foretelling. At age 19, he became the Royal Ballet’s youngest ever male principal dancer.

Ballet gained an unprecedented new awareness when he danced in Hozier’s viral video ”Take Me To Church.” People who would never
have paid any attention to ballet began to watch the tattooed phenom. He is generally attributed with bringing ballet to the modern common man. Classical, yet cutting edge, Sergei starred in Diesel’s “Make Love Not Walls” campaign and has put his mark on many other promotions.

Sergei is a much sought after model and actor. Fashion designers love his breathtaking physique and brooding good looks. He has garnered only positive reviews for his acting. His appearances include Kenneth Branagh's adaptation of the Orient Express, the biographical documentary Dancer, The White Crow, and Red Sparrow.

Russia: French musician Marouani says he is victim of 'criminal actions' amid plagiarism row

French musician Didier Marouani held a press conference in Moscow, Wednesday, following his release from police detention earlier in the day, amid accusations and counter-accusations of plagiarism, extortion and slander in an ongoing row with Russian singer Philipp Kirkorov.

Marouani, the founder of the disco group 'Space,' was detained on Tuesday night alongside his lawyer Igor Trunov. Marouani’s legal representative said Kirkorov had agreed to an out-of-court settlement in a copyright infringement case that had earlier been dismissed by a Moscow court.

SOT, Didier Marouani, founder of the band 'Space' (French): After a minute, 60 policemen broke in, and they didn't behave very kindly, they said nobody should speak, they took everybody’s phones and didn't allow us to talk with anyone, and everyone had to be silent. It was like a bad detective film, like bad detective cinema, we have of course all seen these films, but to experience all of this on my own was an absolutely different thing. So we became the victims of a trap, we became the victims of something very stupid, criminal actions, for eight hours I was a criminal suspect. For around six to seven hours we were in that bank, we didn't do anything; we weren't allowed to call anyone. Then we were transferred to the police [station], the sirens were on, they didn't act very kindly towards us as if we were criminals, when in fact we are not the criminals, we are the victims.

SOT, Igor Trunov, Didier Marouani's lawyer (Russian): Today after this press conference, we are going to the offices of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, where they have invited Didier for questioning, what kind of questioning we don't know. The lawyer Ainar and Didier are going there. And I'm going with them in order to try and get access to our case file. Today's press conference has been considered a threat. From the very beginning we planned to hold a press conference as soon as we filed a suit; that is how it was announced. However, we didn't manage to do this because the police prevented it. [Russian singer] Philipp Kirkorov came to this meeting with TV representatives. There was a big group of around 60 people including police, FSB [Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation] and other law enforcement officers. They said that they have been following Didier since the moment he arrived in the country. Earlier that day they had pretended to be waiters, wearing bow-ties, and waited for this provocative arrest in the restaurant which had been chosen by Philipp Kirkorov and his lawyer.

this is 8th film in the series named Gods' Plays (as in Play meaning drama, theatrical performance, although in some cases may also mean pastimes or games; director follows Shakespeare's notion that the whole world is a theater and everyone in it is merely an actor playing role) - the increasingly VERY popular documentary which perhaps can only be compared with now famous Zeitgeist movie (which is translated as the spirit of the age).

However unlike new age style of Zeitgeist (and to some may even seem as sort of conspiracy theory), this film Gods' Plays is rather based on very ancient authentic Vedic traditions of Russian people, and even deeper than that - to Slavic-Aryan Culture (as opposed to civilization). The knowledge revealed in this film is perhaps for the first time so openly ever since the Soviet communist suppression and even since older times (christianization of ancient lands of Slavs-Aryans and almost total elimination of previous thousands old CULTURE - not religion ! which Christianity branded as pagan, barbarian etc.)

therefore this film is practically priceless, because it presents in easy simple form all the old forgotten values and attempts to offer some solutions, both on personal and other levels (social, political, etc) with help of those values.

it is important to note that this film is mostly author's (director's) own personal sort of contemplation, expression of his own world-perception. although he certainly shows and quotes many sources and interviews many actual practitioners of the Old Faith (called Starovers in Russian language, from the words Staraya VeRa - Old Faith, understanding / realization of Ra). so, this film is not an official materials of Starovers, but more like digested by director knowledge which he has compiled and expressed in elegant style as a professional film-maker.
