Ada Covered Bridge - Ada, Michigan
The Ada Covered Bridge spans the Thornapple River. It was built in 1857.
When heavy snows collapsed the roof in 1879, the people of Ada mounted an all-out effort to rebuild the bridge. Shortly after the repairs were finished, the bridge was completely destroyed by fire. Undaunted and with the help of Amway Corporation, the citizens again rallied to rebuild it.

Covered Bridge - Frankenmuth, Michigan - REAL USA Ep. 46
Covered bridges were once a common sight in the United States, but now are something of a rarity. We did have the good fortune to video a rather large covered bridge located in Frankenmuth, Michigan. This is the second episode in our series on Frankenmuth. The covered bridge was actually constructed in 1979 as an exact reproduction of those common in the 18th and 19th centuries, with only exceptions to meet modern day construction codes.

05-21-16 Sat - Riding through Fallasburg's Covered Bridge, Fallasburg Park, Lowell, MI Video 2
My company, Michigan Motorcycle Tours teamed up with RoadRider TV to shoot some video together. We are riding through Fallasburg's Covered Bridge in Lowell which is one of my favorite places to go. I LOVE THIS BRIDGE! The park is beautiful with the Flat River running through it. There are beautiful stone walls through out the park and a gorgeous stone arch that marks the entrance to the pavilion you may rent. Nine times out of Ten there is a wedding taking place on the weekends, just as there was during our visit. I use to hang out here all the time back in the 80's on Sundays. I would wax my 79' black Camaro and listen to White Snake playing on my Kenwood Cassette Stereo.

Action on the Michigan Shore Railroad.
Watch a transfer freight of covered hopper cars as it travels from the ex CSX North Yard to the ex GTW Henry Street yard in Muskegon Mich. Then watch a night run of the MSRR version of the old C&O Cannon Ball as it crosses Laketon Avenue Crossing. Then watch the Cannon Ball as it charges up Strawberry Hill on Airport Road Norton Shores Michigan. I inadvertently stated that the transfer job was sand cars. These were in reality empty cars from Fremont Michigan from the Cooperative Elevator. In C&O/CSX days, several insolated box cars and Mechanical Reefers where handled for Gerber Baby Food Company along with three 100 ton hoppers of coal for Gerber's cogeneration power plant.
By the time Michigan Shore took over all trackage of the ex C&O/Pere Marquette Allegan Subdivision, Gerber's had switched from glass containers to plastic cutting down on tonnage. It didn't pay MSRR to carry Gerber Baby Food as a customer. Gerber's today is served by truck. MSRR goes to Fremont Mich on an as need basis to service the Cooperative. MSRR serves an Ethanol Storage Facility at the old Napsol Oil Refinery in North Muskegon off M120. It provides Ethanol for gasoline blending at the Marathon Terminal. This Ethanol business has about 10 or so tankers a week. MSRR also serves Webb Chemical which handles about 10-15 tankers a week
The closing of the Sappi Fine Paper Muskegon mill has resulted in the loss of about 60 box car loads shipped from Sappi along with a tank car loads of caustic soda which is a bi- product of paper making. Nugent sand on the ex GTW is the main customer of MSRR along with box cars of News Print for the Grand Rapids Press which is transferred to Truck at the Steindler Paper Co warehouse in Norton Shores. The Coopersville & Marne could build a siding and serve the Grand Rapids Press Printing plant directly from Fuller Jct in Grand Rapids from the Grand Rapids & Eastern Railtex/Rail America line. The power for the Cannon Ball is a GP38-2 lettered Grand Rapids & Eastern and a GP38-2 lettered Mid Michigan. The GR&E operates ex GTW trackage east of Grand Rapids Mich, through Ada Mich home of Amway Corp. The Mid Michigan operates ex C&O/CSX trackage out of Greenville Mich. Mid Michigan Traffic is down since Electrolux( Kalvinator) refrigerator plant closed and moved to Mexico
The C&O North Yard serves as MSRR main classication yard having more trackage than the ex GTW Henry Street Yard which serves as their main locomotive and car shop facility.

Fallasburg Park
I spent an afternoon in Fallasburg Park which is just north of Lowell, Michigan. The Flat River runs through the park and there are a lot of scenic picnic areas and playgrounds. Fortunately for me, there are also some geocaches. This is also the home to one of the last remaining covered bridges in Michigan. Lots of history here so if you make it to the park, make sure to stop at all the historical markers.
