Adelaide River Floodplain Crossing
Recent heavy rainfall at the end of the wet season has once again put water over at Adelaide River. Before the crossing, we witnessed boats motoring around the Adelaide River bridge car park. We only had the snorkel fitted two weeks prior which has already proved a worthwhile addition with the alternate trip route adding an additional 3 hours to an already 2.5 hour car trip.

The Adelaide River is a river in the Northern Territory of Australia.
COURSE AND FEATURES
The river rises in the Litchfield National Park and flows generally northwards to Clarence Strait, joined by eight tributaries including the west branch of the Adelaide River, Coomalie Creek, Margaret River and Marrakai Creek, before discharging into its mouth in Adam Bay in the Timor Sea. The river descends 151 metres (495 ft) over its 238-kilometre (148 mi) course.[1] The catchment area of the river is 7,640 square kilometres (2,950 sq mi).[2]
The Adelaide River is crossed by both the Stuart Highway adjacent to the township of Adelaide River and the Arnhem Highway near Humpty Doo.
The Adelaide River is well known for its high concentration of saltwater crocodiles, along with other wildlife including white-bellied sea eagles, whistling kites, freshwater crocodiles, bull sharks and Black Flying-fox. Its lower reaches form part of the Adelaide and Mary River Floodplains Important Bird Area.More info:

'Port River Expressway' - Adelaide, South Australia
Travelling westbound on the Salisbury Highway from Mawson Lakes, connecting onto the Port River Expressway at the Salisbury Highway/South Road junction and finishing over the Diver Derrick Bridge in Port Adelaide.
The Port River Expressway was built to redirect freight and reduce traffic congestion on Adelaide's arterials; Port Wakefield Rd, South Rd and Grand Junction Rd, ultimately providing an efficient route to the port facilities in Port Adelaide and Outer Harbor.
14 minute drive compiled into a 3 minute drivelapse/timelapse.

Trains on the Onkaparinga Rail Bridge; South Australia's longest - Adelaide Metro
In this video we visit South Australia's longest bridge. The Onkaparinga Valley Rail Bridge is a 1.2km long bridge that spans the Onkaparinga Valley and river. The bridge opened in 2014 as part of the extension of the Noarlunga line to Seaford.
Here we see some Adelaide Metro 4000 Class EMU's, including a six-car consist not in service heading towards Adelaide for the start of the afternoon peak. It's probably the only time you'll see a six-car train in Adelaide as most platforms aren't long enough to accommodate more than four or so carriages.

A trip onboard The Overland; Melbourne - Adelaide Passenger Train
The iconic Overland passenger train is an interstate passenger train service operating between the cities of Melbourne and Adelaide. Operating since 1887, the train transverses 858km on its 10 and a half hour journey between the two cities. The train is operated by Journey Beyond (aka Great Southern Rail) with NR Class locomotives leased from freight operator Pacific National.
In this video we take a ride onboard The Overland from Melbourne to Adelaide. We sample the onboard service in both the standard 'red' economy class and the 'red premium' first class to see what it's like to travel onboard the train.
On the trip to Adelaide we pass through numerous country towns, see the food onboard and witness lovely scenery including a large bushfire.
The Overland has been serving passengers for over 132 years. However it's future is currently uncertain. Unlike Journey Beyond's other long distance trains such as The Ghan and the Indian Pacific which targets the long distance luxury tourist market, The Overland acts as a form of public transport, making intermediate stops in small country towns and offering more affordable fares. However because of this The Overland isn't profitable and relies on government subsidies to continue operating.
However over time it's patronage has dwindled due to competition from air travel. The service today is a shadow of its former self; The Overland currently operates twice weekly whereas prior to 2013 the service ran daily. In 2019 The Overland was threatened with closure after the South Australian government withdrew it's share of funding. For the past 12 months The Overland has been completely subsidised by the Victorian government; of which the funding is now running out. If a new funding deal isn't reached then The Overland may cease to operate at the end of December 2019.

Murray Bridge Rail Tunnel and Rail Bridges South Australia video Jul 2017
Murray Bridge Township is a city in the Australian state of South Australia, located 76 kilometres (47 mi) east-southeast of the state's capital city, Adelaide.
The city was originally known as Mobilong and later as Edwards Crossing, before being renamed as Murray Bridge in 1924
The city is situated on the Princes Highway, the main road transport link between Adelaide and Melbourne.
The first road bridge across the lower Murray was known as The Murray Bridge and completed at Edwards's Crossing in 1879.
The bridge also became a shared road and rail bridge in 1886. The bridge was designed for 1,067 mm (3 ft 6 in) rail track gauge though in actuality, only 1,600 mm (5 ft 3 in) broad gauge trains ever used it.
In 1925 a separate rail bridge was completed that carried a single track of broad gauge rail. This included a Rail Tunnel under the Princes Highway to the Murray Bridge Railway Station.
The rail cuttings through the cliff of the riverbank from the original rail bridge to the railway station are still in existence.
In 1979 the Swanport Bridge, carrying the South Eastern Freeway across the Murray River was completed 5 kilometres (3 mi) downstream, removing most through traffic from the historic Murray Bridge.
As part of the Keating Government's One Nation project, the Melbourne-Adelaide railway line was converted to standard gauge in 1995.

Torrens Junction Rail Proposed Underpass Adelaide Entertainment Centre & Bonython Park Video 2013
Planned to be built in 2015-16, Torrens Junction Rail Underpass will be a major improvement to passenger & freight transport. It will remove the bottleneck caused to the Up and Down Tracks of the Osborne Line each time a Heavy Freight or Interstate Passenger Train passes through Bonython Park. Currently the two systems have lines crossing over a level crossing - the Torrens Junction in Bonython Park and adjacent to the River Torrens.
All movement stops on one whilst the others trains go through, and vice versa.
Both tracks of the Adelaide Metro Osborne Line will pass under the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) line which will remain at ground level.
From the actual Junction, both tracks of the Osborne Line will be underground, beneath Bonython Park, then passing under the roadway of the Inner Ring Route (Park Terrace). Then to a new underground rail station at Bowden, adjacent to a major residential development on one side and the Adelaide Entertainment Centre with it's ParkNRide Station on the other. The rail lines will remain underground until they reach West Street in Bowden.
There is currently a lack of pedestrian overpass or underpass over the Adelaide Metro & ARTC rail lines running alongside Memorial Drive.
It is planned increase in the length of the freight trains on the ARTC track from 1.5Km to 1.8 Km. They also expect a greater frequency from the current 11 trains a day and to shave 30 minutes off their travel times as a result of building the Torrens Junction Rail Underpass. These three factors is will create a greater barrier for people from Memorial Drive, North Adelaide and passengers from the North Adelaide Railway Station moving into the Bonython Park. The video was shot on 26 February 2013
In May 2013, the South Australian Government announced the South Road - Torrens Road to River Torrens Upgrade This will have the Osborne Rail Line then become elevated from West Street. They plan to build a rail bridge over South Road. The elevated railway will then go onto an new elevated station at Croydon.
Adelaide Railway Station Pedestrian Bridge and Pedestrian Underpass June 2015 Video
There is a persistence in Adelaide that pedestrians are to cross over roads at the same level as buses, trams and private motor vehicles.
A bridge was built across the River Torrens with the surface of the bridge at the same level as the roadways at each end of the bridge. Memorial Drive on the North & Festival Drive on the South ends of the bridge cannot be used by vehicles when the crush of spectators moves into or out of the Adelaide Oval.
The wide ramp and visually obvious staircase funnel most passengers into Adelaide on the wrong side of North Terrace.
The pedestrian underpass beneath North Terrace has the appearance of being the entry to the public toilets. Only signage is high above the heads of people in the main hall of the station.
Adelaide Railway Station is now only used by standard gauge Suburban Trains run by Adelaide Metro.
North South Rail Tunnel under CBD of Adelaide April 2018 Video
This video looks at one of the possible routes for an underground railway tunnel in Adelaide CBD. This tunnel was an election pledge for the current South Australian Government.
