Scuba Diving 'The Dredge'- Glenelg, Adelaide- South Australia
Scuba diving 'The Dredge' off Glenelg, Adelaide- South Australia, 'The Dredge' arrived in Adelaide from Holland in 1912, and was employed to dredge silt from the Port River.
Decommissioned in 1982 and sunk in 1985 as an artificial reef, it is enjoyed by scuba divers with different level of qualifications and is a favourite dive site due to its large variety of fish life and easy accessibility from Glenelg.
For more info and access to this dive site, see adelaidescuba.com.au
Filmed in December 2012 using an Iphone, GoPro video camera and edited using Imovie on a MacPro. Access to the site with Adelaide Scuba on the dive boat 'The Sea-Horse'.
Though the footage is a little shaky, this was my first video project so no doubt my video work will get better from here!
Port Noarlunga Reef Scuba Dive - Southern Shallows (Diving Adelaide)
Awesome dive in the Southern Shallows - the southern part of the Port Noarlunga Reef! This part of the reef is harder to reach than the northern part (which can simply be dived from the jetty) and therefore not dived that often.
Brett and Ron decided to explore the whole southern part of the reef, including the gap (where marker number 8 is located) - a dive that took us 86 minutes with a maximum depth of 18.3 metres in the gap (the average depth is only about 4-6 metres).
The conditions were great with about 10 metres visibility and a little bit of surge. We dived it on a sunny Autumn day when there was a dodge tide (minimal tidal movement). The water temperature was 20 degrees Celsius.

South Australian Wreck - Glenelg Dredge
Sunk as an artificial reef - reportedly in 1985, The South Australian (commonly referred to as the Glenelg Dredge or simply the Dredge) was a Sand Suction Dredge which arrived in Adelaide, Australia in 1912, it was built in Holland in 1911.
It is possibly the most dived of local wrecks with easy access from local Adelaide boat-ramps and marina's. It lies some 6.5 km of the coast of Glenelg and sits in some 20-21m of water with the deck at 14-15m.
It is popular with Open Water Divers, and is commonly used as a training ground for Advanced Open Water and Wreck Speciality courses.
Dive Charters, Dive Clubs and Private boat divers easily share this site, along with Anglers who often are in the vicinity of the South Australian and a hopper barge in close proximity, lying some 120 metres from the South Australian.
The Bow faces South, with Star Droppers running from just off the bow to the Glenelg Barge (Hopper Barge).
I hope you enjoy the video.
This video gives a good overview of above and below deck.
I hope you enjoy the footage.

The wreck of the Glenelg Dredge (officially The South Australian) was built in 1911 in The Netherlands and arrived in Adelaide about a year later.
It was purposely sunk in 1985 as an artificial reef for divers and fishermen to enjoy. The ship sits in just under 20 metres of water in an upright position and is easy to navigate around. There are big holes in the wreck, so it's easy to penetrate and as the deck sits in approximately 14 metres you can do a nice long dive on it.
The site has heaps of bullseyes on it and today when we dived it there were about 10 cuttlefish underneath the wreck! You can also find plenty of the other usual suspects and the wreck itself is covered in soft corals, so there is more than enough to explore.
We had about 10 metres visibility on the wreck itself, there were no currents and the water temperature was around 15 degrees Celsius.

Dive site: Glenelg barge - South Australia
First time taking the camera set up out with me diving, so it's a touch sloppy here and there but still pretty good.
The barge is a small wreck sitting in about 20 metres of water a short boat ride out from glenelg marina.
Footage was shot on a gopro hero 3* with a SNP blurfix filter** attached to a gorilla tripod with home-made weights.
Tune is a nice little progressive house track I discovered the other day: First Breath (Dankann Vocal Mix) - Aqua Diva, Schodt
*I've compressed this quite a bit so I can upload it on youtube, the actual video is much higher quality
**The SRP filter works pretty much perfectly at around the 15 metre mark, any deeper and your videos start turning out yellow. Some of the colours have been touched up in sony vegas, mostly the ones at the bottom of the wreck.
