Adnams Southwold Bitter Keith's Beer Reviews # 796
Adnams Southwold Bitter
Southwold Bitter is a beautiful copper-coloured beer, late and dry-hopped with Fuggles for a distinctive, lingering hoppiness.
Brewed with the finest East Anglian Pale Ale malt barley, sourced locally to the brewery. We use Fuggles hops which we add late in the boil to preserve the herbal flavours of this traditional English hop. We add more Fuggles to each cask so that the flavour of the hops infuses into the beer
It’s a perfect 3.7% abv in cask and 4.1% abv in bottle and can.
4.1% ABV
Adnams Fat Sprat 3.8% abv
Our 3.8% pale amber summer beer proudly supports the Marine Conservation Society.
Adnams Fat Sprat is brewed with Pale Ale malted barley, Munich, Cara and Black malt, with Columbus, English Goldings, Cascade and Chinook hops.
It has a lovely citrus, grapefruit aroma with some spicy notes. On the palate, the citrus character of the hops shines through, balanced with a light biscuit flavour and a crisp, dry finish.
What's the story?
Adnams is always looking for ways to work sustainably and to help protect our natural environment. Fat Sprat has been brewed not only to taste great, but to help fund the vital work undertaken by the Marine Conservation Society.
Want to know more?
Adnams Fat Sprat is a limited edition summer beer and can be found in selected pubs and bars from mid May. It's also available in 5L mini casks (each cask holds 8 pints) online and in Adnams Cellar & Kitchen Stores.

Adnams Broadside Christmas Pudding Recipe
Yes, it's easy to buy a pudding these days (we've created a very tasty pud which you can taste in our stores and hotels), but it's loads more fun making your own, especially when you can add a healthy splash of Broadside to it.
Fancy giving it a go for Stir Up Sunday?
Here's what you'll need to make two puddings:
460 gm raisins
100 gm currants
150 gm sultanas
100 gm chopped glacé cherries
30 gm flaked almonds
100 ml Broadside
100 ml Spirit of Broadside
2 oranges
2 lemons
Juice of one orange
Juice of one lemon
100 gm suet
60 gm breadcrumbs
100 gm plain flour
180 gm soft brown sugar
4 gm mixed spice
2 gm nutmeg
2 gm cinnamon
2 gm clove
10gm salt
4 eggs
Instructions
1. First, grab a large bowl and add the dried fruit and almonds. Then add the lemon and orange zests plus juices and the Broadside Beer and Spirit of Broadside. Stir well then leave this to soak overnight at room temperature.
2. The next day, beat the eggs with the salt and mix them into your soaked fruit and nuts.
3. Gently fold all the other ingredients into your bowl by hand until evenly mixed. Don't be tempted to use a mixing machine as this will overwork the ingredients and leave you with a heavy pudding. It's traditional to let each member of the family take turns at having a stir, and make a wish!
4. Next, line your pudding basins with greaseproof paper, fill with your mixture and top with greaseproof. Make your pudding bowl watertight by adding a secure lid of foil.
5. You can either cook your pudding in a steamer, or a simmering pot of water with a lid for around 5 hours. The puddings will take on a darker colour as they cook. When they are cooked, remove from heat and leave to go cold. Do not remove from your basin or pudding mould. Store your pudding for around a month to let the flavours mature.
6. When you're ready (Christmas day!), re-heat your pudding in a steamer or a simmering pot of water for around one to one and a half hours.

Lowestoft and Southwold you were spectacular today
My trip to the Suffolk coast started in Lowestoft. I had a walk around the harbour and marina. From here it’s just a short walk to the Railway Station. One of the new trains was on the platform so we made the most of having a look around it. It’s doing test runs at the minute before going into service. After the station we went to the beach before making the next trip onto Southwold. First stop was Southwold Quay. Where do you look first as this was a bustling community with cafes and restaurants and smoked fish shops. Lots of wooden fishermen’s sheds here with endless boats and fishing items of interest. I could have spent the whole day in this spot alone. Then, down to the harbours mouth to watch the waves as there’s nothing quite like dodging the sea spray and pretending to be 5 again! Southwold did not disappoint. From its lighthouse, Adnams Brewery , shops, Pier and beach huts. There is something for everyone no matter what age. Obviously I was only here for the afternoon and there’s so much more that I didn’t have time to show you. The ferry over to Walberswick for instance , amongst lots of other things. The same with Lowestoft, I was only there for a morning. Next time I’ll show you Ness Point , the most Easterly point of the Uk. I’ve had the most spectacular day, thank you Suffolk.
