The Adventure Aquarium, formerly the New Jersey State Aquarium, is a for-profit educational entertainment attraction operated in Camden, New Jersey on the Delaware River Camden Waterfront by the Herschend Family Entertainment Corporation. Originally opened in 1992, it re-opened in its current form on May 25, 2005 featuring about 8,000 animals living in varied forms of semi-aquatic, freshwater, and marine habitats. The facility has a total tank volume of over 2 million US gallons , and public floor space of 200,000 square feet .

Adventure Aquarium is just minutes from downtown Philadelphia on the Camden Waterfront and features one-of-a-kind exhibits with more than 8,500 aquatic species throughout two million gallons of water. The Aquarium is home to the largest collection of sharks on the East Coast, including the only great hammerhead shark on exhibit in the United States, the only aquarium in the world to exhibit hippos, one of only six facilities in the US to have Little Blue penguins as permanent residents and exhibits the longest Shark Bridge in the world, a unique V-shaped rope suspension bridge just inches over Shark Realm. Adventure Aquarium is an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), and is held to the absolute highest standards in animal care and exhibition.

Swimming With Sharks At Camden’s Adventure Aquarium
Chaser Hank had the chance to get into the shark tank at the Adventure Aquarium in Camden, New Jersey.Biologist Nicole Gioia supervised Hanks turn in the tank and told him that sharks are oftentimes misunderstood.
“Sharks do not attack people on purpose at all. If that happens it's a mistake that they made trying to hunt something large like a dolphin or a seal or something, but sharks don't look for people,” she said.
75 shark attacks are reported ever year worldwide and back in 1916 there were five incidents of shark attacks in New Jersey alone.
