Where to eat in Rarotonga, Cook Islands
So guys, this is the final video in our 3-part Rarotonga vlog series! It's safe to say that food in Rarotonga really exceeded our expectations. The fish was so fresh it felt like it was caught only a few hours before it reached our plates. Check out this episode to find out all the great local spots that we managed to hit up during our time in the Cook Islands.
We're sure there were a bunch of other fantastic spots that we missed out on, but guess that means we'll just need to make another trip back to Raro one day :) If you're from Rarotonga or you've been there before, let us know where else we should try next time we visit the Cook Islands.
Here's a list of all the places we managed to cover in this Rarotonga food vlog though:
1. Charlies Cafe and Beach Hire - Awesome lil spot. You can either get a mean feed or rent a kayak and snorkel to venture out into the beach which is right next door. Their sandwiches are huge!
Address: Ara Tapu, Takitumu District, Cook Islands
Hours: Monday - Saturday 11am–9pm
2. Trader Jacks - Just the thought of this place still brings smiles to our faces. The crayfish tail we had was so good we came here a second time and ordered the same dish. Peter also got the ika mata here (not shown in the video unfortunately) but believe us, it was amazing!
Address: Ara Tapu, Avarua District, Cook Islands
Hours: Monday - Thursday 11am - 11pm
Friday 11am–3am
Saturday 11am–12am
3. The Waterline Restaurant and Beach Bar - One of the most beautifully located restaurants we went to during our stay in Rarotonga. Right next to the beach and in a charming wooden beach hutt. Also houses the best pina colada Peter has ever had.
Address: Arorangi, Rarotonga, Cook Islands
Lunch - Tuesday - Friday 11:30am - 2pm
Dinner - Tuesday - Sunday from 6pm till late
4. The Mooring Fish Cafe - We heard from our Cook Island friends that this is where locals from Rarotonga go to get a great lunch.
Address: Avana Fishing Club near Ngatangiia District, Cook Islands
Hours: Monday - Saturday 10:30am–3:30pm
5. Bite Time Cafe - This place surprised us with the quality of the ika mata and tuna. We ended up eating here after the Raemaru trek which you can see the whole video in:
Address: Avarua District, Cook Islands
Hours: Monday - Saturday 8:30am–9pm
We hope you've enjoyed this Rarotonga series of ours! Be sure to watch our other 2 videos we made about Raro if you haven't seen them yet :)

Visit Rarotonga in the Cook Islands
A short visit to Rarotonga to trek through the island, Dive in the reefs and eat Raro Fried Chicken.
I got a little lost on the Island Trek.... There is a very popular route that goes from North to South.... I had injured my ankles the month before and decided not to do the whole trek but would start from the finish and meet the others near the end.... I somehow ended up far off the main trekking route and found my own adventure. At least I made it back safe and sound!!

Raro now officially running on empty
The news story below explains the situation. I hardly notice with my diesel truck and electric car.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raro now officially running on empty
Rarotonga's fuel wholesalers have officially run out of supplies of petrol, leaving motorists to fend for themselves until the next shipment of fuel arrives.
Yesterday, both companies confirmed they have no remaining stock to supply retailers.
As of yesterday afternoon, only a handful of petrol stations around the island were still taking customers, prompting motorists to form long queues that were kept in an orderly fashion by police. According to the latest shipping schedules, separate vessels carrying petrol for both Triad Pacific Petroleum and Toa Petroleum are scheduled to arrive next Wednesday at the earliest. According to website marinetraffic.com the troubled Tiare Moana was making 11 knots north-east of Great Barrier Island at the time of writing while the Olomana was reported as stopped north-west of Great Barrier at the same time. A Triad company official pointed out that port officials could have some difficult in working out the logistics of unloading the cargo from the vessels, as Avatiu wharf can only handle one vessel at a time.
'Panic' buying at petrol pumps
A petrol shortage in Rarotonga forced residents searching for fuel to wait in long queues yesterday.
With supplies nearing on empty or running low amongst wholesalers, motorists were seen lining up at an outlet in Avarua, which stretched a couple hundred metres at one point in the afternoon.
A number of retailers around the island have already sold out of petrol - including Oasis Energy in Nikao, Super Brown in Tupapa, and Wigmore's Super Store in Vaimaanga -- forcing them to turn away potential customers.
Others have been forced to ration fuel by imposing limits on car and motorbike owners in order to stretch supplies as much as possible.
A Toa tanker truck could be seen re-supplying a petrol outlet in Avarua, with some of the company's remaining stock of the fuel. Yesterday, Toa General Manager Alan Heironymus confirmed the company is poised to run out at some point today.
Rival firm Triad ran out of petrol last week.
Over the previous 24 hours, a couple of developments have changed the schedules of two vessels that are expected to bring in relief supplies.
The Tiare Moana -- which is carrying a shipment for Triad - was scheduled to depart the Port of Auckland yesterday at 12:30pm, however after a slight delay, the vessel eventually left harbour later in the afternoon according to one shipping traffic website.
Another vessel, the Olomona, has had its schedule pushed forward two days and is now scheduled to arrive next Wednesday in Rarotonga.
Notwithstanding any additional shipping changes, new stocks of petrol are still expected to arrive at some point in the middle of next week at the earliest.
Diesel supplies should carry through and be available until the arrival of the vessels, said a Toa company official.
Emergency services in Rarotonga have set up contingency plans and are prepared for short-term shortages, officials said.
Although the company has said it is unable to supply its retail customers, Manager Graeme Wiig said Triad is storing an unspecified quantity of fuel for emergency situations.
