Cusco & Machu Picchu Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia
Cusco & Machu Picchu – In Cusco and the Sacred Valley, magnificent ruins await the adventurous traveler. The most famous of all is Machu Picchu. Follow us through this incredible region!
When ready, browse vacation packages to Cusco:
Step through time and worlds with a #vacation to #Cusco, the former capital of the Inca Empire of the Sun. Since the 16th century, Spanish colonial buildings were built atop former Inca Palaces, of which only foundations remain.
In the Urubamba Valley, or #SacredValley, visitors can see the mysterious Moray Terraces and the pre-Inca Salt Mines of Maras. Ollantaytambo is a living Inca city and its towering ruins form the start of the Inca Trail to #MachuPicchu.
The long-lost Inca bastion was uncovered from the jungle in 1911. It remains a mystery how the Incas managed to stack the heavy granite blocks that make up the city’s buildings so precisely, at high altitude.
Little is also known about how the Incas turned a multi-lingual tribal region in an empire that is now known as one of the greatest civilizations in history.
For now, we hope you enjoy watching this #travel #guide as much as we enjoyed making it.

Goodbye Machu Picchu! Tour Aguas Calientes and train to Cusco ???? - Machu Picchu, Peru????????
There's plenty of restaurants, places to stay, and small shops to visit on your way out of Machu Picchu. The Earth Unraveled gang wanders through the small town of Aguas Calientes Peru, located at the base of Machu Picchu mountain.
A leaky train makes for a wet ride traveling from Aguas Calientes to Cusco. Care to try some of the local snacks? Just try not to eat the paper with it.

1:51 - Leaky train
2:18 - Don't eat the paper on the tart...too late
Episode 44
Coming back from Machu Picchu everyone was exhausted, yet cheerful heading back to the hostel as we had all just experienced one of the greatest moments of our lives.
0:27 Aguas Calientes is small town at the bottom of the valley of Machu Picchu. It is featured by a train rail and a river that run through the town. For most people like ourselves, it is the launching point if you want to visit this spectacle of the world.
1:51 As one journey ends, another begins as we grab the next train to heading back to Cusco but this was no ordinary train ride. Just before we started moving, water began to leak down on Mike's seat forcing him to use his jacket to stay dry. We alerted them to the problem and the proceed to use masking tape and a paper towel to cover it up which really did not work.
2:18 Some of the guys grab a pop tart and Mike ( left ) bites right into it to to discover there is paper on the tart. Thinking that was funny, Mikey ( right ) sitting next to him didn't believe it and he proceeded to bite into the paper as well...lol
Our adventure continues back to Cusco as we say goodbye to Machu Picchu, an incredible destination and arguably the most heavenly place on earth.

Peru Travel: A Way to Machu Picchu
A submission to our 2012 Travel Video Contest from Peru traveler, Carlos Silveira. Carlos writes of his video:
Machu Picchu is a trip to the serenity of the soul, to the eternal fusion with the cosmos, where we feel our fragility. It is one of the greatest marvels of South America. The resting place of butterflies in the epicenter of the great circle of life. One more miracle. - Pablo Neruda I have nothing more to say than repeat these words of the Nobel Prize for Literature.

Michael & I visit Machu Picchu for 3 days. This video features Nelida, the only female guide working for the Llama Path trekking agency in Cuzco. She brought Machu Picchu to life for us and adjusted our trekking routes when I decided to avoid the exposure of the Inka trail going up from Km 104. Michael did the original trek with Nelida, although he said he was miserable doing it. We met at the Sun Gate, high above Machu Picchu, coming from opposite directions. Nelida is a gem.

Peru - Inka Trail - Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu.
The famous Salkantay Trek (or Salcantay Trek), named among the 25 best Treks in the World, by National Geographic Adventure Travel Magazine, is a trek open to everybody, with no limitation on spaces or permits (at least for now). Connecting the city of Mollepata, Cusco with Machu Picchu, the Salkantay Trek is an ancient and remote footpath located in the same region as the Inca Trail where massive snowcapped mountains collide with lush tropical rain forests.

Cusco to Machu Picchu - Peru HD |GoPro|
Our trip to Cusco and Machu Picchu, Peru 2017. We used Lorenzo Expedition for the Jungle Trek to Machu Picchu and we had an amazing time, I highly recommend them!
Machu Picchu :: How to Get from Cusco to Machu Picchu Mountain
We arrived in Cusco, Peru without having arranged an excursion to Machu Picchu. The first day after arriving, we went to Enjoy Cusco Peru, a local travel agency, where Juan Sixto arranged everything for us to go from Cusco to Machu Picchu (the next day).
We went by bus from Cusco to Ollantaytambo and by train to Aguas Calientes (train to Machu Picchu). We spent the night in a basic hotel and that night and went to the Aguas Calientes hot springs.
After a good night sleep and breakfast, we met up with our tour guide, who rode up with us to Machu Picchu.
Wow! Machu Picchu with kids was amazing. We were stunned by the grandeur and reverence of the old Inca Empire city.
Follow two hours at the ruins, we started our machu picchu mountain hike. We started the machu picchu mountain climb on the inca trail 20 minutes late; we only had 90 minutes to complete the 120 minute route.
La Montana Machu Picchu is steep, awesome, exhausting, and thrilling. Mike and Renatha and all three kids completed Machu Picchu mountain trek. We almost could believe we all did.
Going to machu Picchu Peru is worth every bit!
As a globetrotting family, we have discovered that travel with kids helps them enjoy actively witnessing history in the world more than trying to absorb it from a book in a classroom.
We shot this week's footage on an iPhone X. The family travel vlog was created and edited in iMovie and Canva. TubeBuddy was used for technical YouTube guidance.

Hikes & Things to do in Cusco, Peru (incl. Machu Picchu, Lares Trek, Rainbow Mt, Humantay…)
I show you some of the best things to do in Cusco and the Cusco region with its many Inca sites and beautiful multi day treks in this episode from Peru in partnership with G Adventures.
➸ My Peru Guide:
➸ Lares Trek with G Adventures:
MY CAMERA EQUIPMENT
▸ Cam1:Sony RX 100 V
▸ Cam2:Sony A7 II
▸ Joby Gorillapod
▸ Audio Recorder: Zoom H2n
▸ SDHC Memory Card
▸ Waterproof Memory Card Case
▸ Backpack Osprey Farpoint 40
To produce this video I spent almost 2 weeks in the Cusco region in order to provide a wide selection of activities I recommend doing on your trip to Peru. Because it was my second time after my first visit in 2012 I chose to introduce an alternative Machu Picchu experience with the Lares Trek - for this part I worked together with G Adventures and decided to extend my stay to do all the other things independently.
Cusco and the area around is full of history and beautiful landscape which makes it worth it to spend about 1-2 weeks in the region. For your time you should definitely take on some day hikes or go for one of the multi day hikes which end up taking you to Machu Picchu. What many don’t know: a multi day hike to go to Machu Picchu is the most budget friendly option if you look at the price-value ratio!
The things to do in Cusco I covered here is a selection of my personal favorites and offers a good mix of historic sites, hikes (partially in very high altitude), food experiences and panoramic views which will leave you speechless. Moreover I also focussed on some community projects which are connected to G Adventures and their NGO Planeterra.
Things to do in Cusco featured in this episode:
- Old town of Cusco / Cuzco
- Saksaywaman / Sacsayhuaman
- La Cusquenita (restaurant)
- Barrio San Blas
- Barrio Ceviche (restaurant)
- San Pedro market
- Jack’s Cafe (restaurant)
- Rainbow mountain / Vinicunca
- Sacred Valley (part of G Adventures Lares Trek tour)
- Pisaq
- Ollantaytambo
- Parwa restaurant
- Lares trek
- train to Aguas Calientes
- Machu Picchu
- Humantay lake (first day of Salkantay trek)
About my Cooperation with G Adventures
For many years I was searching for a suitable partner who offers tours in South America which align with my style of traveling as well as my values. After many meetings I’m glad I found this partner with G Adventures who offer many adventurous tour packages for travelers like me…but who also care about the environment and local communities in order to execute sustainable tourism. I forced this cooperation because I like the products and the philosophy of the company. Nevertheless all opinions, recommendations and views are my own.
