Free Climbing in Omis
The view from high up on the Mirabela or Fortica fortress is surely something you will remember for a long time, but nothing beats a view you fought your way to with your bare hands.
Omiš is, among other things, also widely known as one of the top two free climbing locations in Croatia, and adrenaline lovers are especially drawn to it by the fact that all climbing routes are just a couple of minutes away fom the town centre. Regardless if you are just a beginner or already an experienced free climber, in Omiš you will definitely find the right climbing route for you.
Here you can take your first climbing steps, or you can truly push yourself to your limits. Whatever you do, there is always the big reward waiting for you at the top – a breathtaking view of the red roofs of the old town, the numerous islands of Dalmatia or the amazing Cetina canyon.
And, finally, something important to note: required climbing equipment hereabouts includes a camera! Because wherever you turn once at the top, you’ll get a view worth capturing.
Love Omis ❤
The Cetina River slowly cut her way through the mountains for thousands of years to form one of the most impressive canyons in Europe, old pirates spent decades putting up stone on stone, building fortresses with the most stunning view in world, waves worked away at the shore for hundreds of thousands of years, crushing rocks to create dozens of beautiful sandy beaches and secluded coves...
Even if you’re just a passer-through, Omiš offers plenty of natural attractions and amazing activities you simply have to experience.
If you’re staying in our town just for a day, this is how you could spend it:
1. A walk through the old town
One of the special things about Omiš is the fact that a walk through the entire old town will take you no more than half an hour. However, walking along its centuries old alleyways, almost at every corner you’ll discover a quaint little restaurant, a piazza, a church or some other historical monument. Although quite small, the town’s numerous narrow alleyways make it pretty easy to get lost in it. But don’t worry, wherever you end up wandering, it’s just a matter of time when you’l l spot something worth every step taken.
2. A visit to Mirabela
A visit to the 14th century pirate fortress above the old town is definitely something you shouldn’t miss while in Omiš. It’s no more than a five-minute walk from the central Omiš square to the top of the fortress offering a magnificent view over the entire town and the nearby island of Brač.
The easiest way to reach Mirabela is by a set of stairs leading up to it directly from the entrance to the Parish Church of St Michael. Just remember to prepare some change before your climb, since the ticket to the medieval pirate fortress will cost you no more than 15 HRK.
3. A trip to Radmanove Mlinice
The town of Omiš developed at the place where the Cetina river meets the Adriatic Sea. In order to reach its final destination, on its more than a hundred kilometers long way to the sea, the Cetina had many obstacles to overcome and thus created a one of a kind winding course full of rapids, waterfalls and hidden beaches. The Cetina canyon is one of the most beautiful in Croatia, and especially impressive is the part near the very mouth, where the river pushes its way to the sea through a narrow passage between two mountains.
One of the best ways to truly experience the canyon is on a sightseeing boat trip. Only while fighting your way upstream through unspoiled nature will you be able to truly grasp the magnificence of the river. And the best thing is – all this just a few hundred meters away from crowded streets of the town, which will seem miles away to you, once in the Cetina canyon.

Hi there. take a look at this video of Omiš maybe this will help you to decide where to go this summer.
About Omiš
Omiš is a town and port in the Dalmatia region of Croatia and is a municipality in the Split-Dalmatia County. The town is situated approximately 25 kilometers (16 miles) south-east of Croatia's second largest city, Split. It is located at the mouth of Cetina River. Omiš is best known for the traditional festival of the Dalmatian a cappella singing groups. This festival is the highlight of Omiš's summer, the expression of the town's beauty. Omiš's Summer Festival - during which various concerts and recitals are performed - takes place at the plazas and in churches.
Interesting history of Omiš
In the past, Omiš was well known for its Pirates of Almissa (Omiški gusari) whose ships, called Sagittas (Arrows), brought them fame and fortune due to their ability to attack quickly and retreat into the mouth of river Cetina, beyond the reach of bigger and better armed sea-faring vessels. At one point, Pirates of Almissa allied themselves with the highlanders of the Poljica Principality (Poljička Republika) which allowed them to harass the seaborne trade without fear of an attack from land.
Monuments and landmarks of Omiš
Due to its rich and interesting history, Omiš remains a home to some very interesting monuments and buildings including Mirabella Fortress (Peovica) and Starigrad Fortress (Fortica) from 13th and 15th century, respectively. Omiš also has a number of churches including the Church of Saint Euphemia from the early 6th century as well as the Renaissance church of the Holy Spirit from the 15th century.
Omiš is certainly a beautiful little town worth putting on your bucket list. Located only 25 kilometers from the second largest city in Croatia, it offers countless possibilities for summer activities without the crowds of Split.
