Harmony Hills - Multi-theme Park in Desfina, Delphi

The Desfina Multipurpose Park is one of the largest public-private partnerships in Greece in the field of touristic and cultural development. It is based on an idea of Angelos Sikelianos and his wife Eva Palmer-Sikelianou who envisioned the creation of an international cultural center at Delphi, the location of the most famous spiritual center in classical antiquity and the “navel of the world” according to the ancient Greeks.

The project includes a University, a School of Fine Arts, an Art and Knowledge Park, a Technology and Innovation Center, a Planetarium, a Health Center for tourists, residential areas, as well as extensive parks and a lakes. The present study (bim-cad.info/mentor) was developed by the office of “Giamakos Architects” (giamakos-architects.com) on behalf of Mentor S.A., and relates to the second phase of the project (Master Plan). It includes general design and area layout, exploratory architectural modeling, and investment estimates in accordance to the officially approved Urban Plan of Desfina (published in the Government Gazette FEK 483 / 31-12-2013).

The project for the construction of the Desfina Multipurpose Park at Delphi started in 2003 as the brainchild of Sophocles and Ourania Diaconiannis, key shareholders of Mentor S.A. The park will have the potential of accommodating up to ten thousand visitors and host events for up to twenty-five thousand spectators. The structures will grow harmonically around an artificial lake located in a hilly countryside close to the famous archaeological site. The planned construction area spans approx. a thousand acres (four million square meters) of land.

In the greek land of Thessaly there is a miracle of both man and nature… one of the biggest artificial lakes in Greece, in perfect harmony with nature.

Plastiras lake is at the centre of Greece, about four hours away from Athens and Thessaloniki.
The impressive dam in Kakavia created Lake Plastiras. A Greek general, later prime minister,
Nicholas Plastiras, had the idea in 1928. Years later, the dam and the lake became a reality
and he became its ‘godfather’. Although modesty never permitted him to say so, the lake was his gift to future generations; blue water, beaches and fir trees, with people enjoying the landscape in every possible way. It’s a sight for sore eyes! The lake is framed by the fir tree peaks of the Agrafa Mountains, one of the most beautiful.
The road around the lake’s perimeter is a montage of beautiful images. Along the route (70km long), you’ll enjoy all the most important sights of the area. A good idea is to divide the lake into sections of interest and see it in two or three days.
Activities around the lake: canoeing, horseback riding, water bicycling, biking, skiing, fishing, hiking, paragliding & sailplaning.
The villages of the lake: Kalyvia, Neraida, Neochori
Monasteries: Panagia Pelekiti is one of the most impressive attractions in the area, while Petras Monastery and Korona (‘Crown’) Monastery will remind you of a castle and will thrill you!
Local cuisine: Enjoy grilled and stewed meat, trout cooked over charcoal and other traditional dishes. Everything here is fresh & tasty. All these flavors will become unforgettable! The stone tavernas at Kalyvia Pezoulas, Belokomitis and Neohori, in the region of Tsardaki, are famous for their good food and hospitable atmosphere. Bon Apetit & Cheers!

Pavliani, Greece 4K: Natural Park, top activities & sights | Travel Guide

Pavliani is a village on Mount Oeta, and a former community in Phthiotis, Greece. It is divided into two settlements, Pavliani proper or Ano Pavliani and Nea Pavliani or Kato Pavliani.
In Greek mythology, Oeta is chiefly celebrated as the scene of Heracles' death and funeral pyre. The remains of a 3rd-century BC Doric temple dedicated to Heracles and his funeral pyre (Πυρὰ Ἡρακλέους), as well as an altar and ruins of adjacent buildings, still survive at the entrance of the Katavothra plateau at a height of 1,800 m, near Pavliani. The temple complex remained in use until late Roman times. The ruins of the medieval town of Siderokastron are located to the east of the village.

With the establishment of the independent Kingdom of Greece, on 20 April 1835 Pavliani became the seat of the Municipality of the Rodontians (Δήμος Ροδοντίων) of the Phocis and Locris Prefecture.The municipality comprised the nearby villages of Gardikaki (Oiti), Sklithraki, and Koumaritsi.

On 2 July 1841 the Municipality of the Rodontians was dissolved and Pavliani became part of the Municipality of the Heracleots of the Phthiotis and Phocis Prefecture (in 1899–1909 the Phthiotis Prefecture), until it became an independent community on 31 August 1912. The village was also the site of the Battle of Pavliani on 3 June 1943, by the forces of the Greek Resistance against an Italian army column. A monument dedicated to the fallen of the battle stands at the entrance of Kato Pavliani.

Seabourn Sojourn, Monte Carlo Monaco to Athens October 2015

A video made during our Monaco to Athens cruise aboard Seabourn Sojourn. One previous cruises I have concentrated more on the ship, this time the video features memories from our ports of call.
