Alaska Railroad. Alaska Vacation included Fairbanks, North Pole, Denali, Anchorage, Seward
We've always heard how beautiful the train ride was from Fairbanks down is. After a little research, there's 2 levels of travel on Alaska Railroad. Goldstar Service was the best with Glass Dome Cars, Open Air Viewing Platform, Food & Drink included and large comfortable reclining seats. The open air viewing platform are worth the money alone. We saw 4 Moose, a Bear, Nesting Osprey, & a Bald Eagle. The cheap seats are roughly 60-65 percent cheaper, but not nearly as enjoyable. It cost $500 a person from Fairbanks down to Anchorage. We stopped in Denali for a couple days & hoped back on to Anchorage. Spent a couple days in Anchorage and drove down to Seward which is roughly 3 hours depending on how many photo stops. We also took one of the tours on Resurrection Bay. It was a bit chilly, but each stop was beautiful. Highlights included, a Humpback Whale, Puffins, Stellar Sea Lions and Bald Eagles. The scenery isn't bad either. Unfortunately no Orca's or groups of Humpbacks. If you can, take Alaska Railroads Goldstar Service from Denali to Talkeetna. In our humble opinion, that's the prettiest route.

FISHING WITH AN ESKIMO - [Living in Alaska 60]
He refers to himself as an Eskimo and he grew up in a small remote village called Wainwright on the North Slope of Alaska. His family lived off of the land, shared with the community and survived many extremely cold dark winters by sticking together. Things are different now he says but sharing with others will always be a big part of his life.
ESKIMO OR INUIT?
Most Alaskans continue to accept the name Eskimo, particularly because Inuit refers only to the Inupiat of northern Alaska, the Inuit of Canada, and the Kalaallit of Greenland, and it is not a word in the Yupik languages of Alaska and Siberia.

TURNAGAIN ARM TRAIL - Anchorage Alaska - Gopro 5 Camera
Several video clips showing the Turnagain Arm Trail located just south of Anchorage Alaska. We started at the Potter Marsh trail head walking 3.3 miles to McHugh Creek before returning to Potter Marsh. We saw a moose and some bear scat on the trail. The video clips are on the return hike going towards the north. Lots and lots of video of showing the trail with trees. Beautiful scenery to me but if you want views of the ocean/Turnagain Arm skip forward to approximately 8:09 and 14:04 of the video. I prefer the sounds of nature but we went as a family and did lots of chit chatting I didn't want on the video. I added some music that seems to fit the hike.
Recorded with a handheld Gopro Hero 5 set at 1080p & 60 fps with image stabilization.

Our Top Alaska Cruises to Take in 2020
Subscribe to the Eat Sleep Cruise YouTube Channel if you love to travel and cruise the world!
With more ships sailing the region than ever before, 2020 is a great year to cruise to Alaska. If you are considering a trip to this 49th state, you will want to take a look at our picks for the Top Alaska Cruises in 2020.
If you enjoy the video, make sure to give it a BIG THUMBS UP!
With ships from all major brands, there is a cruise ship with the features and amenities that is right for you.
Norwegian Cruise Line has two of its largest ships sailing the region again this year. Norwegian Bliss and Norwegian Joy offer many innovative attractions that are fun for the whole family including a racetrack, laser tag, and an interactive virtual reality pavilion. Not to mention, there are many great dining options, Broadway hits in the main theater, and the Observation Lounge with floor to ceiling views of the amazing landscapes.
Royal Caribbean also has some great options for cruises to Alaska in 2020. Ovation of the Seas is the largest cruise ship sailing in the region and is specifically built for cold water cruising. This ship has some innovative features of its own including the SeaPlex with bumper cars and roller skating, as well as the North Star aerial gondola and a sky diving simulator. Additionally, Radiance of the Seas is always a cruiser favorite in Alaska as the ship offers some of the greatest views of Alaska from the nine-story central atrium and outward facing elevators.
Celebrity Cruises will also host a number of ships in Alaska in 2020 including Celebrity Solstice and Celebrity Eclipse. Offering Solstice-class favorites like the Lawn Club, Hot Glass Class, and the Crush martini bar, there will be plenty to keep you entertained when you are not ashore exploring all that Alaska has to offer. Celebrity Millennium will also be cruising to Alaska in 2020. This ship has recently undergone an extensive revitalization with updates to the staterooms, dining, and more.
It is tough to pick the best Alaskan cruise for 2020 among the 8 Princess Cruises’ ships sailing in the region this year. Given that we are partial to mega-ships, Royal Princess makes our list. This ship offers signature Princess amenities and some amazing views from the SeaWalk, a 60-foot glass walkway extending 28 feet off the side of the ship. Star Princess also makes our list this year as it offers unique 10-day round-trip voyages from San Francisco.
If you are looking for an all-inclusive feel and simple elegance during your cruise to Alaska in 2020, look no further than Viking Orion. This ship will sail from Vancouver to Seward and visit Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, Sitka, Icy Strait Point, and Valdez. The best part is this trip includes seven guided tours among other amenities like complimentary WiFi, specialty dining, beer and wine at meals, bottled water, and more. These destination-focused itineraries compliment the unparalleled service and inclusive nature of the cruise line.
Finally, one of Holland America’s newest ships is also making its way to Alaska in 2020. The MS Koningsdam will be sailing 7-day round-trip cruises from Vancouver. When you need a break from sightseeing, Koningsdam offers plenty of top-notch amenities, entertainment, and dining as well, like performances on the World Stage, America’s Test Kitchen live cooking shows, and BBC Earth Experiences to bring you closer to nature.
No matter which ship you choose, your cruise to Alaska in 2020 will certainly be filled with majestic landscapes, magnificent wildlife sightings, and memories to last a lifetime.

Big Picture: Alaska: The Outpost State
When Alaska was acquired by Secretary of State Seward almost a century ago for seven million dollars, it was promptly dubbed Seward's Folly or Seward's Icebox. Even up to the present day, many Americans consider their newest sister state as a barren rock covered with crushing ice and constantly at sub-zero temperature. Alaska is a rugged land to be sure, but, as this week's THE BIG PICTURE points out, she will prove a valuable star in our nation's flag. An area one-fifth the size of the continental United States, it boasts of modern cities, progressive schools, rich mineral and game resources and booming industries that have already returned our original purchasing price many times over. THE BIG PICTURE highlights Alaska's colorful early years of the Klondike Gold Rush, through its repulsion of a Japanese invasion during World War II, up to its admittance to statehood. The film presentation then defines Alaska's strategic value in military affairs which in recent years has grown to vital importance to national defense. With its original owner, Russia, just fifty-six miles from Alaska's border, it can truly be called the Guardian of our Northern Frontier and America's Outpost State.
Alaskan Fishing Community Celebrate Catching Giant Bowhead ahead of Bloody Butchering Ceremony
Alaskan Fishing Community Celebrate Catching Giant Bowhead ahead of Bloody Butchering Ceremony
In Barrow, Alaska, it all begins with a euphoric voice over a crackling radio: 'Hey, hey, hey!'
The signal from an Inupiat whaling captain in a tiny boat on the grey waters of the Chukchi Sea is heard in nearly every home of this frozen town as far north as you can go in the United States, and its meaning is clearly understood.
A bowhead whale - one of the oldest and largest mammals on earth - has been caught.
The marine mammal, which can reach sixty feet in length and weigh more than 100 tons, required a Herculean effort to move. Work continued into the night to butcher it into manageable portions.
Keeping with a tradition that stretches back thousands of years, bowhead whales are hunted by boat during the fall season.
Once ashore, residents flock to help in the work of divvying up the whale.
As children slide down the whale's slippery side, officials inspect the catch and ensure the hunters have followed international guidelines to keep traditional whaling on a subsistence scale for native communities.
The skin and blubber, known as muktuk, is prized by the Inupiat, and often eaten frozen.
The community says the catch helps them feed their families in the town where produce such as watermelons that are flown in cost as much as $20 each at the local grocery.

Kayak Fishing for Monster Halibut on Alaska's Kodiak Island
This is my 2nd halibut of the day at a location well off the beaten path of an island that's well off the beaten path. After 3 days of searching Kodiak's nearshore crags and reefs, I finally made it on the board. While this wasn't the 100+ lb fish that we were searching for, it was definitely big enough to be dangerous.
We titled this trip The Hunt for Triple Digits as our self-guided group was looking to find halibut over 100lbs. Our expedition included such kayak fishing notables as Allen Sansano, Allen Bushnell, Rudy Tsukada and Chris Mautino.
A Deer Migration You Have to See to Believe | National Geographic
Researchers have only recently found the longest large mammal migration in the continental United States: Mule deer migrate 150 miles (241 kilometers) in western Wyoming each year. And it's no easy task for them—barriers include highways, fences, tough terrain, and bodies of water. In this video by Joe Riis, a National Geographic grantee and regular contributor, see the modern-day obstacles mule deer overcome to make the migratory trek that they likely have been making for generations.
