THE SECRET OF ANTARCTICA - Full Documentary HD (Advexon) #Advexon
Almost three miles of ice buries most of Antarctica, cloaking a continent half again as large as the United States. But when an Antarctic ice shelf the size of Manhattan collapsed in less than a month in 2002, it shocked scientists and raised the alarming possibility that Antarctica may be headed for a meltdown. Even a 10 percent loss of Antarctica's ice would cause catastrophic flooding of coastal cities unlike any seen before in human history. What are the chances of a widespread melt? Secrets Beneath the Ice explores whether Antarctica's climate past can offer clues to what may happen. NOVA follows a state-of-the-art expedition that is drilling three-quarters of a mile into the Antarctic seafloor. The drill is recovering rock cores that reveal intimate details of climate and fauna from a time in the distant past when the Earth was just a few degrees warmer than it is today. As researchers grapple with the harshest conditions on the planet, they discover astonishing new clues about Antarctica's past—clues that carry ominous implications for coastal cities around the globe.

109km on a 3 speed Brompton folding bike for the Cape Town Cycle Tour 2018 VLOG 84
I love my Brompton folding bicycle! It folds, has 16” wheels and three gears! In this video I ride the 109km Cape Town ‘Argus’ Cycle Tour on it! This was my 14th or 15th Argus Cycle Tour, and I think it was my 5th on a Brompton. It is an absolute blast! I always wear my University tie (befitting of a cycling Professor!) ha ha! It was a beautiful day 11 March 2018 - I did the 109km around the coast in 5h10mins
The Brompton attracts a lot of attention! It is an amazing bicycle! I take mine all over the world when I travel, and it lives in my office to ride across Stellenbosch University’s campus.

Lewis and Clark: Those Who Trekked Across the Continent When They and Their Nation Were Young (2003)
The Lewis and Clark Expedition from May 1804 to September 1806, also known as the Corps of Discovery Expedition, was the first American expedition to cross what is now the western portion of the United States. It began near St. Louis, made its way westward, and passed through the continental divide to reach the Pacific coast. The Corps of Discovery comprised a selected group of U.S. Army volunteers under the command of Captain Meriwether Lewis and his close friend, Second Lieutenant William Clark.
President Thomas Jefferson commissioned the expedition shortly after the Louisiana Purchase in 1803 to explore and to map the newly acquired territory, to find a practical route across the western half of the continent, and to establish an American presence in this territory before Britain and other European powers tried to claim it.
The campaign's secondary objectives were scientific and economic: to study the area's plants, animal life, and geography, and to establish trade with local Native American tribes. With maps, sketches, and journals in hand, the expedition returned to St. Louis to report its findings to Jefferson.
According to Thomas Jefferson himself, one goal was to find the most direct and practicable water communication across this continent, for the purposes of commerce. Jefferson also placed special importance on declaring U.S. sovereignty over the land occupied by the many different tribes of Native Americans along the Missouri River, and getting an accurate sense of the resources in the recently completed Louisiana Purchase.[3][4][5][6] The expedition made notable contributions to science,[7] but scientific research was not the main goal of the mission.[8]
During the 19th century, references to Lewis and Clark scarcely appeared in history books even during the United States Centennial in 1876 and the expedition was largely forgotten.[9][10] Lewis and Clark began to gain new attention around the start of the 20th century. Both the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition, in St. Louis, and the 1905 Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition, in Portland, Oregon, showcased Lewis and Clark as American pioneers. However, the story remained relatively shallow, a celebration of U.S. conquest and personal adventures, until the mid-century, since which time it has been more thoroughly researched and retold in many forms to a growing audience.[9]
In 2004, a complete and reliable set of the expedition's journals was compiled by Gary E. Moulton .[11][12][13] In the 2000s, the bicentennial of the expedition further elevated popular interest in Lewis and Clark. As of 1984, no U.S. exploration party was more famous, and no American expedition leaders are more instantly recognizable by name.

Geronimo one who yawns; June 16, 1829 -- February 17, 1909) was a prominent leader of the Bedonkohe Apache who fought against Mexico and the United States for their expansion into Apache tribal lands for several decades during the Apache Wars. Geronimo was the name given to him during a battle with Mexican soldiers. His Chiricahua name is often rendered as Goyathlay or Goyahkla in English.
After an attack by a company of Mexican soldiers killed his mother, wife and three children in 1858, Geronimo joined revenge attacks on the Mexicans. During his career as a war chief, he was notorious for consistently urging raids upon Mexican Provinces and their towns, and later against American locations across Arizona, New Mexico and western Texas.
In 1886 Geronimo surrendered to U.S. authorities after a lengthy pursuit. As a prisoner of war in old age he became a celebrity and appeared in fairs but was never allowed to return to the land of his birth. He later regretted his surrender and claimed the conditions he made had been ignored. Geronimo died in 1909 from complications of pneumonia at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

The Traveller Case is effectively a bike box during travelling, but once you've reached your destination, you unload and unfold the bike, attach the trailer kit to the box, and hitch it the bike. Brompton bicycle commute 3-4 times faster than by car!
On a rainy evening with grid-locked traffic in Kuala Lumpur, it took my only 24 minutes to bicycle home (7.7 km). My friend, who was meeting me for dinner near my home, drove 2/3 of the same route as me, but took more than 1 hour(!)
Needless to say, I was very happy to be bicycling and not driving :-)
The video documents this commute through Kuala Lumpur, which takes place from the Pullman Hotel, Bangsar, which is located next to the big Menara TM building (the one that looks like a bamboo shoot) to my home at Bukit Bintang.
For this commute, I'm wearing office attire (shirt + trousers), as I was attending a the Green Buildings & Parks conference. While getting somewhat sweaty on the commute back, only my shirt had to go into the laundry basket.
Enjoy the ride - once again showing that bicycling is a real and often preferred option in Kuala Lumpur!
GREGERS
PS. The video is filmed with a GoPro Hero4 on a chest-strap, which fits nicely underneath the shirt; refer to the first minute of the video, where you can see the camera mounted in my mirror reflection at the lift lobby.
