Old Lane Mill was a steam-powered worsted mill built by James Akroyd in 1825 and was said to be fire proof. This wasn't true as on Saturday 21st January 1905 there was a fire which caused damage estimated at £8,000. In 1827 Akroyd built the first Jacquard looms in Britain. This building is listed because it is the oldest and largest surviving example of a multi-storey, steam-powered, iron-framed textile mill in the important textile centre of Halifax, it is probably also the best preserved example for its date in Yorkshire. Obviously as it's a listed building it's in quite a state, holes litter the floors, especially the roof.
Dubbed The Lee Mount and Ovenden Youth Club by Merkal Jackson due to the amount of the local scruffs that hang around causing mayhem and destruction. Here's two stories of teens that have been hurt inside the place, with one even falling through four floors which the lucky sod survived!

Who are we?
We are Sara and Stephen, a UK mum and son based in a small English town near Liverpool.
In 2017 we sold most of our things, we quit our job and school and set off on an adventure of a lifetime to South East Asia.
We are passionate about travel, adventure, compassionate living and creating your dream life. After over a year of full time travel Stephen decided he wanted to attend public school back in the UK so our full time travel adventure came to an end and we settled back into life in cold, rainy England.
We are now a foster family and currently have 3 young children living with us Squirt, Curls and Minnie (not their real names!)
We try to pack as much family adventure into our days as possible and share videos from fantastic family friendly places around the world.
We LOVE making YouTube videos so make sure you subscribe and join us on this crazy, beautiful journey of life.

NORWEGIAN GEM Docking At HALIFAX Cruise Port l CRUISE VLOG l Ep. 20
It's a new day which means we are in Halifax, Nova Scotia! I was really looking forward to this port and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! Today's shore excursion was around seven hours long and we went to Lunenburg, Mahone Bay, and Peggy's Cove. I booked the tour through Norwegian Cruise Line though most cruise lines offer this tour. It is called: CANADA: CELEBRATE OVER 150 YEARS! and here is the tour description from NCL's website:
“Celebrate the country with a range of pure Canadian experiences that includes visiting early settlements and landmarks and shopping for Canadian delicacies. After departing from the pier, you will settle in for a circuitous, picturesque drive through Halifax, admiring historic sites such as the Halifax Citadel, where the British built a fort and founded the town, and the Province House, Canada’s oldest legislative building. Along the way, you will hear fascinating stories about Halifax’s history, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and why Nova Scotia sends Boston a spruce tree every Christmas.
Continuing on, you will arrive at another extraordinarily scenic area, Old Town Lunenburg. Established in 1753, it is North America’s best surviving example of a planned British colonial settlement. The original layout and appearance has been retained so faithfully that UNESCO designated Lunenburg a World Heritage site. During free time, you can explore the brightly colored Old Town, which is easy to navigate because the streets follow a rectangular grid pattern designed in Britain. You can expect to see 18th-century wooden buildings and perhaps a replica of the Bluenose, Canada’s legendary racing ship that was launched here in 1921.
Later, in lovely Mahone Bay, you may shop or dine on your own, prior to visiting Acadian Maple. This family-owned business sells all sorts of Canadian delicacies, many made with maple syrup. Before returning to the pier, more free time awaits you in Peggy’s Cove, a quaint fishing community with one of the country’s most photographed lighthouses.”
As always, make sure to watch in HD for the best video quality! Hope you enjoy! :)

OUR NEXT ADVENTURE! ????
We have a big trip announcement! This week we’ll be flying from our home city of Halifax (Canada), to London! We’ll spend a few days there and then head to Milan for a couple of days. After that we’ll be in Bologna followed by Rome.
From Rome we head to Athens. We plan to spend about a month in Greece island hopping from Athens to Crete. Some of the islands on our radar are Naxos, Koufonisia, Foleganrdos, Sikinos and Santorini (but we definitely open to suggestions!), we’ll finish our tour of Greece in Crete.

------------------
London, England.
At its centre stand the imposing Houses of Parliament, the iconic ‘Big Ben’ clock tower and Westminster Abbey, site of British monarch coronations. Across the Thames River, the London Eye observation wheel provides panoramic views of the South Bank cultural complex, and the entire city.
Milan, Italy.
Milan, a metropolis in Italy's northern Lombardy region, is a global capital of fashion and design. it’s a financial hub also known for its high-end restaurants and shops. The Gothic Duomo di Milano cathedral and the Santa Maria delle Grazie convent, housing Leonardo da Vinci’s mural “The Last Supper,” testify to centuries of art and culture.
Bologna, Italy.
Bologna is the lively, historic capital of the Emilia-Romagna region, in northern Italy. Its Piazza Maggiore is a sprawling plaza lined with arched colonnades, cafes and medieval and Renaissance structures such as City Hall, the Fountain of Neptune and the Basilica di San Petronio.
Rome, Italy.
Rome, Italy’s capital, is a sprawling, cosmopolitan city with nearly 3,000 years of globally influential art, architecture and culture on display. Ancient ruins such as the Forum and the Colosseum evoke the power of the former Roman Empire.
Athens, Greece.
Athens is the capital of Greece. It was also at the heart of Ancient Greece, a powerful civilization and empire. The city is still dominated by 5th-century BC landmarks, including the Acropolis, a hilltop citadel topped with ancient buildings like the colonnaded Parthenon temple.
Naxos, Greece.
Naxos is a Greek island in the South Aegean, the largest of the Cyclades island group. Its fertile landscape spans mountain villages, ancient ruins and long stretches of beach. The namesake capital (also called Hora or Chora) is a port town filled with whitewashed, cube-shaped houses and medieval Venetian mansions. Kastro, a hilltop castle dating to the 13th century, houses an archaeological museum.
Koufonisia, Greece.
Koufonisia is a former community in the Cyclades, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Naxos and Lesser Cyclades, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 26.025 km²
Folegrandos, Greece.
Folegandros is a small Greek island in the Aegean Sea which, together with Sikinos, Ios, Anafi and Santorini, forms the southern part of the Cyclades. Its surface area is 32.216 square kilometres and it has 765 inhabitants.
Sikinos, Greece.
Sikinos is a Greek island and municipality in the Cyclades. It is located midway between the islands of Ios and Folegandros. Sikinos is part of the Thira regional unit. It was known as Oinoe in Ancient Greece.
Santorini, Greece.
Santorini is one of the Cyclades islands in the Aegean Sea. It was devastated by a volcanic eruption in the 16th century BC, forever shaping its rugged landscape. The whitewashed, cubiform houses of its 2 principal towns, Fira and Oia, cling to cliffs above an underwater caldera (crater). They overlook the sea, small islands to the west and beaches made up of black, red and white lava pebbles.
Crete, Greece.
Crete, Greece's largest island, is known for its varied terrain, which ranges from fine-sand beaches at Elafonisi to the White Mountains. Mt. Ida, the tallest of the range, is home to the Ideon Cave, which was the birthplace of Zeus, according to Greek mythology. The capital, Heraklion, is home to the renowned Heraklion Archaeological Museum, housing Minoan artifacts, and Knossos, a Bronze Age settlement.
These are all the places we are going to visit. Remember we are open to suggestions!
