Colorado Motomarathon
This is the Denver Channel 9 news coverage of the Colorado Motomarathon. The Motomarathon was created by John Metzger. Each day the riders are given a sheet listing the checkpoints they have to hit and as long as they make all the stops in the designated sequence and reach the day's destination within the 24-hour period allotted they're good. There will be points scored but come Monday, when this ride ends, there's a good chance that a lot of people will be tied for first place.
Top 4 Entertainment Stories of the Day
Sorry Directioners, Harry Styles didn't actually make a surprise appearance on The Tonight Show on Tuesday night. Instead, Kristen Wiig dressed up as the hunky One Direction singer and decided to take part in an interview — sans British accent but completely in character — and reveal that she knows next to nothing about Harry, other than the fact that he has big, wavy brown hair. While Kristen may not know much about 1D, she does make for a hilarious interview. Watch the clip above.
Philip Seymour Hoffman's dying wish was to keep his children far, far away from Hollywood -- this according to the actor's will. And according to the document -- drawn up in 2004-- Hoffman requested that his son Cooper be raised in Manhattan ... in order to be surrounded by the culture, arts, and architecture of the city. If NYC turned out to be impossible, Hoffman asked for his son to be raised in Chicago or San Francisco. The glaring omission on his list is obviously Los Angeles -- as he didn't think it was a suitable city to raise a kid in. As for the entirety of his estate, Hoffman left the whole shebang to his longtime partner and the mother of his 3 children, Mimi O'Donnell.
On Tuesday night, Sports Illustrated gathered its favorite ladies together for one big party in NYC to celebrate the 50th anniversary issue . On the list of stunning model guests were the magazine's three cover girls for 2014 —Nina Agdal, Lily Aldridge, and Chrissy Teigen (who brought her husband, John Legend , with her) — plus past models Molly Sims, Irina Shayk, and ageless Christie Brinkley . They weren't the only couple mingling at the event, though — singer Cody Simpson showed up with model Gigi Hadid on his arm at the party and Ariel Meredith looked cozy with New York Giants footballer Hakeem Nicks on the red carpet.
Nicole Richie let her freak flag fly at Britney Spears' Las Vegas show last night. The pint-sized fashion designer joined Brit on stage and happily got on all fours for the singer.
Nicole, who has shown her love for Brit in the past, shared some fun photos from her impromptu guest appearance.
Britney also shared her appreciation for the 32-year old mom of two and tweeted this following the sho':Can we all give a round of applause to @NicoleRichie for playing along in the show tonight? U looked hot crawling on all fours ;)
Big Star
Big Star was an American rock band formed in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1971 by Alex Chilton, Chris Bell, Jody Stephens, and Andy Hummel. The group broke up in 1974, but reorganized with a new line-up nearly 20 years later. In its first era, the band's musical style drew on the vocal harmonies of The Beatles, as well as the swaggering rhythms of The Rolling Stones and the jangling guitars of The Byrds. To the resulting power pop, Big Star added dark, existential themes, and produced a style that foreshadowed the alternative rock of the 1980s and 1990s. Before it broke up, Big Star created a seminal body of work that never stopped inspiring succeeding generations in the words of Rolling Stone, as the quintessential American power pop band and one of the most mythic and influential cult acts in all of rock & roll.
Big Star's first album—1972's #1 Record—was met by enthusiastic reviews, but ineffective marketing by Stax Records and limited distribution stunted its commercial success. Frustration took its toll on band relations, and by the time a second album was completed in 1974 both Bell and Hummel had left the group. Like #1 Record, Radio City received excellent reviews, but label issues again thwarted sales—Columbia Records, which had assumed control of the Stax catalog, likewise effectively vetoed its distribution. After a third album was deemed non-commercially viable and shelved before receiving a title, the band broke up late in 1974. Four years later, the first two Big Star LPs were released together as a double album. The band's third album was finally issued soon afterward; entitled Third/Sister Lovers, it found limited commercial success. Shortly thereafter, Chris Bell was killed in a car accident at the age of 27.
