Flight from Inishmore
Flight experience from Inishmore to Connemara Airport (Inverin) on a stormy, blustery 28 September 2017, via Aer Arann.

Flight from Inis Mór to Inis Oírr in the Aran Islands
Flight from Inis Mor to Inis Oirr in the Aran Islands. Aer Arann do a great service to the islands. From the mainland the flight is about 10 minutes but between the islands of Inis Mór and Inis Oírr the flight is only 5 minutes from start to finish and you get a great view of the islands. I had a great day on Inis Oírr (Inisheer) and well worth the trip. You can walk around or hire a bicycle to see the island. The island is about 3km by 3km which means that you should be able to walk most of it in a day trip. You can get more info at

Galway Bay Crossing by Ueli 'Sputnik' Gegenschatz
As a tribute I'm posting two vids of this amazing guy. A big loss. RIP Man. (1st vid)
World renowned Swiss wingsuit flyer Ueli 'Sputnik' Gegenschatz, who recently base jumped from the world famous Eiffel Tower in Paris, travelled to the west coast of Ireland over the Bank Holiday weekend to compete a unique project.
'Sputnik' flew unaided a distance of 17.6kms, which is the longest recorded flight distance in a wingsuit ever undertaken, gliding from above the edge of Inis Mor over Galway Bay to Connemara regional airport near Inverin in Co Galway. Sputnik also beat the flight time of the Aer Arann Islander passenger aircraft, which travels this route daily in seven minutes, by a full 75 seconds.
In order to complete the distance, 'Sputnik' needed to exit his skydiving aircraft at an altitude of 4,500 metres. He flew across the Atlantic waters at a glide ratio of 1:4 metres travelling at an average speed of 250km/hr with the aid of a strong tailwind. The passenger aircraft, with a top speed of 193km/hr, took off from Inis Mor airstrip cruising at an altitude of 200 metres as 'Sputnik' exited his aircraft high above the island.
'Sputnik' released his parachute 200 metres above the mainland before touching down on the runway at Connemara Regional Airport clocking a time of 5 mins 45 sec. I was fortunate to have very strong tailwinds on the day which increased my chances of making the long distance. It enabled me to reach an average speed of 250km/hr and make the crossing. I was happy not to land in the ocean as I've heard the Irish waters are very cold!
Sputnik has been on a global quest to find the most challenging terrains of the world to traverse in his specially designed wingsuit. His adventures have brought him to The Matterhorn in the Swiss Alps, Popocatepetl, the second highest peak in Mexico and now to the Aran Islands on the Atlantic coast of Ireland.
Using a Garmin GPS tracking device on his wrist, Sputnik transmitted data back to his laptop on the ground which calculated his top speed and average speed during the race.

Bouldering in Gorumna Island Connemara
Connemara
Connemara is a district in the west of Ireland, the boundaries of which are not well defined. Some define it to be the land contained by Killary Harbour, the Maam Valley, Lough Corrib; a line from there to the sea at Barna and the Atlantic Ocean. The historical territory of Connemara, as defined by the 17th century historian Ruaidhrí Ó Flaithbheartaigh in his book West or H-Iar Connaught, was coextensive with the barony of Ballynahinch, This is a broad peninsula stretching from Killary Harbour on the north to Kilkieran Bay on the south. The boundary runs from the north along the spine of the Maumturk Mountains then along a series of small rivers and across upland west of Maam Cross eventually following the course of the Invermore river before meeting the sea west of the Ros Muc peninsula.

In this video we continue our e-bike tour of The Wild Atlantic Way following on from Spiddle we show you a hidden gem of a beach just outside Spideal.
Spiddal or in Irish Garlic An Spideal is located approximately 18 km west along the Galway coastal road (R336) from Sallthill. Spiddal is a small village that overlooks Galway Bay and the enchanting Aran Islands. Spiddal also forms part of the Gaeltacht region of Connemara and Irish Gaelic is still spoken in this area of The Wild Atlantic Way Coastline. Whilst cycling through Spiddal you can and should enjoy the local activities such as shore fishing, snorkeling, sailing and windsurfing. Nearby Tra na mBan is Shannagarraun wood, designated a Special Area of Conservation. This woodland is rich in oaks, hazel, holly and birch, with ferns, mosses and lichens. Our hidden beach is situated just outside Spiddal and is locally known as Tra an Saulean and is a little known usually deserted beach steeped in Irish tradition and a wonderful place to stop off for a picnic on the beach.
Moving onto Inveran we next stop off at Tijh Mholly's Pub, this is a beautiful traditional Irish pub with the Irish hospitality that you should now be used to. Tijh Mholly's pronounced Tee Wally's is a small thatched building steeped in history that serves the most wonderful pints of Guinness, so when cycling through Inveran on your Wild Atlantic Way cycle tour be sure to stop of at Tijh Mholly's Pub it's a must and Keen the landlord will look after you (you may never want to leave) Visit Tijh Mholly's whilst cycling The Wild Atlantic Way through Inveran.
