The Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica is an institution of higher education and advanced research with emphasis in aerospace science and technology maintained by the Brazilian Federal Government with the support of the Brazilian Air Force. It is located in São José dos Campos, Brazil. ITA is rated as one of the top and most prestigious engineering schools in Brazil.
The school's admission exams for its undergraduate courses are considered to be the most competitive in the country, and take place annually in over 25 cities throughout Brazil. Its undergrad program acceptance rate in 2013 was only 1.65% .
It is one of four institutes that encompass the Brazilian General Command for Aerospace Technology , having its facilities, along with its laboratories and R&D centers, inside the campus of CTA. ITA is often mistakenly considered to be a military institution, because of its location, but it is 100% civilian in nature, with a vast majority of civilian teachers, directors and students. The Air Force does help maintain the institution, though, and in exchange uses it for the training of its engineers.
The institution was created in 1950, being responsible and contributing in a great extent for the research and development of the aerospace and defense sectors in Brazil, including the Brazilian National Institute for Space Research - INPE, Embraer and Avibrás.
ITA offers regular 5-year engineering undergraduate courses and graduate programs including master's and doctorate degrees. All undergraduate students are granted full scholarships and board during entire five-year period. Complete residential facilities are offered to the students inside the campus, at a minimal cost. The college is known for being rigorous, demanding focus and a great effort from the students.

Vulture Aeronautics Team Project summary
9 Aeronautical Engineering Students from the Instituto Politécnico Nacional of Mexico, Designed, built and flew this Blended Wing & Body for the 2009 SAE Brasil AeroDesign Competition, which Took place in Sao Jose Dos Campos Brasil, In the CTA of Embraer on Oct 22-25th, 2009.
The team ended it's participation in 66/97, unfortunately. Engine Trouble during first round which didn't allow us to fly. Second round airplane rotated and snapped at about 10ft high, the pilot was able to level it off and land at the end of the runway, perpendicular to it. The airplane exited the runway and hit a drainage damaging it's landing gear. Third round was a qualifier with 3.65 Kg and placed 33rd in the flight competition. 4th round engine trouble again and the 5th and final round was a crash, due to C.G. problems ( it was less than 1cm behind its aft limit, we suspect), it snapped during rotation and the pilot was unable to recover this time.

Brazil's Air Force holds drill prior to Olympics
(15 Jul 2016) FOR CLEAN VERSION SEE STORY NUMBER: 4045534
F-5 fighter jets and other military aircraft flew over Rio de Janeiro on Thursday as the Brazilian air force conducted a presentation for the press less than a month ahead of the Olympic games.
Over 15-thousand air force personnel and 80 aircraft will be in Rio for the games that start on 5 August.
Airspace over Rio will be restricted starting on 24 July and fighter jets will be ready to intercept any unauthorized aircraft.
The Brazilian Air Force will also be responsible for the arrival and departures of heads of state coming to the event.
Brazilian security officials have denied any terrorism threats but have said they are working closely with foreign intelligence agencies to monitor any risks that might arise.

Aerodesign Brazil 2009 - Anhanguera Team - Flight #4
No, this isn't another music video... this time I'm uploading videos from a personal project.
Aerodesign is promoted by SAE (Society of Automobile Engineers), and is a competition between engineering students to design (under some restrictions) and build an RC airplane that will lift the heaviest cargo. In Brazil, the flight competition is always done at ITA (Technological Institute of Aeronautics), São José dos Campos.
This video is from our final flight, recorded at 25/10/2009. The cargo used was about 9 kg of cargo. Unfortunately, this time we have not made it. The takeoff was in the limit of the second takeoff zone. After it, the airplane stalled and fell in the grass =(

Science Days
