Afflecks (formerly Afflecks Palace or Afflecks Palace Manchester is an indoor market in Manchester, England, in the city's Northern Quarter on the junction of Church Street/Tib Street and Dale Street with Oldham Street. Dozens of independent stalls, small shops and boutiques operate in the one building. The Afflecks building was once occupied by a department store called Afflecks and Brown as a store and office space, hence the name. Afflecks & Brown was started in the 1860s as a drapery business in Oldham Street. The Afflecks store grew to occupy a whole block between Oldham Street, Church Street and Tib Street and become a full flung department store. The Afflecks business had a good reputation as a credit draper and was known for a good range of cloth for home dressmaking[3] as well as a furrier.
The Afflecks business started to decline after the advent of the Second World War as shopping moved away from Oldham Street, and in the 1950s Debenhams added the store to their portfolio. But the continued decline of the area and the ownership of another Manchester department Store, Pauldens saw the store close down in 1973.Affleck's Palace first opened in 1981 by James and Elaine Walsh with an ethos of offering a safe environment for entrepreneurs to start out with affordable rent and no long term contracts.Afflecks Unit holders operated under a licence agreement which allowed them to pay for space on a week by week basis. The atmosphere and colourful maze-like layout led to Afflecks becoming a mecca for alternative culture. The establishment was able to bounce back from two building fires and overcame many obstacles.
During the 1990s Madchester Summer of Love' period – when local bands like the Stone Roses, Happy Mondays and Inspiral Carpets were at the height of their popularity; Afflecks Palace was a fashionable spot to get oversized flared jeans and tie dyed T-shirts and 'Eastern Bloc' was a popular record shop as it dealt in all the latest underground dance tunes of the time.

Fifteen Independent Retailers on the 3rd Floor of Afflecks, NQ have teamed up to throw a Summer Party on Saturday 21st July with Live Music, DJ’s, Free Cake and of course, Giveaways and Discounts!
Comprising of four floors, the 3rd floor of Afflecks has decided to tempt you right to the top for a summer party - and encourages you to take your time exploring the other floors as you head back out.
The 3rd Floor hosts fifteen different independent retailers, with the largest selection of Independent Art and Gift Shops. Other shops on the 3rd floor include Action Figures and Collectibles, Fancy Dress, Custom Glass Engraving, Crystals, Gothic Accessories, Guitars and Vinyl Records. It also has a Cafe and is accessible via one of Afflecks three staircases or via lift .
Our Free Summer Party is an opportunity for us to come together as independent retailers and give our customers a great big THANKYOU for supporting small businesses. It’s a chance for us to show that we believe in community over competition and give people a reason to come and explore what we have to offer.

Hey Everyone!
When I was in Manchester the other day I went to the amazing Affleck's Palace. This is an amazing building filled with individual stores and pop-up shops. I loved the idea of this old run down building being converted into something brilliant so I thought I would give it a film :) I saw some seriously cool clothes and I just wish I had had the money at the time to splash out and buy a few goodies!
