a little bit about us, Masaka Kids Africana ''is the group Foundation of young talented Kids in Dancing, from Uganda - Masaka, East Africa, village called Nyendo - Kayirikiti,
We DANCE - RISE AND SHINE..
****OUR VISION****** To empower children, mobilize communities and build futures.
****OUR MISSION***** We Supporting children in education and social well being, through their talents.
The Masaka Kids Africana is composed of African children, from the age of 2 and up. Many have lost one or both parents through the devastation of war, famine and disease. They represent all the children of a continent and they demonstrate the potential of African children to become strong leaders for a better future in their land.
The children melt the hearts of audiences with their charming smiles and delightful African tunes, accompanied by vibrant dance moves. Nearly every performance is concluded with a thunderous standing ovation. A marvelous by-product of the concert is the inspiration the music brings to virtually every listener. In spite of the tragedy that has marred their young lives, the children are radiant with hope, musically gifted and wonderfully entertaining.
We rely on the generosity of our extended family — people like you — so we can educate, feed, clothe and support all of our children. Every dollar we save from our performance is also a dollar earned for the continued care of our kids. Our music and dance troupe children will soon begin training again during their school term breaks and over select weekends. Show your support of music and advocacy – it’s so easy to do.
Masaka Kids Africana sponsored children have gone through some of the worst experiences a child could face — but through dance and song and sharing their love of Uganda, these children connect to each other and the world. They see their own potential — they have hope for their future.

South Africa's Illegal Gold Mines
In the 1970s, South Africa was the world's most prolific exporter of gold. Over the years, industrial decline has seen widespread closures of the mines across the country.
However, Johannesburg sits on the biggest gold basin ever discovered. It's perhaps not surprising that many of these abandoned mines have seen a recent boom in illegal mining activity.
Everyday, hundreds of illegal gold miners, known as Zama Zamas, descend kilometers deep beneath the surface. The miners often spend weeks underground, toiling away at the country's untapped gold reserves. Observers have suggested that illegal mining is now so widespread, black-market gold arguably supports the communities once subsistent on the very same mines they worked in before they shut down.
The lack of policing in the mines has seen the practice go on largely unabated. However, in the absence of law enforcement, the extensive network of abandoned mines beneath the region has become an arena to deadly gang warfare between rival factions. VICE News visited illegal mines near Johannesburg, to meet the Zama Zamas risking life and limb everyday in the violent struggle for South Africa's illegal gold.

Sex for Grades: undercover inside Nigerian and Ghanaian universities - BBC Africa Eye documentary
Universities in Nigeria and Ghana have been plagued by stories of sexual harassment by lecturers and professors for decades. Allegations include a wide array of abuses, from blackmailing students for sex in exchange for marks and admission to lewd comments and grooming.
After gathering dozens of testimonies, BBC Africa Eye sent undercover journalists posing as students inside the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and the University of Ghana to capture footage of the sexual harassment.
Reporter Kiki Mordi, who knows first-hand how devastating sexual harassment can be, reveals what happens behind the closed doors of some of West Africa’s most prestigious universities.
Further information and support for anyone affected by sexual assault can be found through the BBC Action Line:

Ghana has had a gold rush but here, Afua Hirsch discovers how Chinese immigrants are profiting from industrialising the country's small-scale mining industry. Zulu Women Queue To Get Their Virginity Verified
Zulu Virgins (1999): In the rape and AIDS capital of the world the rituals of virginity testing are gaining renewed importance.
Subscribe to Journeyman here:
Wearing traditional dress, young Zulu girls march in line down to a virginity ceremony. Each hopes for the same thing: a certificate confirming their virginity, given out by the community's older women. Many defend the ceremony, saying it is part of tradition and helps to prevent the spread of AIDS and unwanted pregnancies. Others feel discriminated against however, as those raped, an all too common occurrence in South Africa, suffer from not having a certificate. Human rights workers are trying to stamp out the ceremonies: “They feel that it will reduce teenage pregnancy and some people believe it will also stop the spread of AIDS. I personally believe that education is much better than exposing ones private parts or genitals. It's a degrading treatment and is humiliation.” But in a place where a virginity certificate means more than a dowry, the queues at the ceremonies keep on getting longer.
