AFRICAN ORIENTAL CRAFT MILANO (MILANO)
AFRICAN ORIENTAL CRAFT 23/34, v.

Exhibition of work carried out at Tebtynis site
(5 Feb 2019) LEADIN:
An exhibition of artefacts discovered in the Tebtynis area in Fayoum has opened in Cairo.
The items were unearthed by the French-Italian archaeological mission that has worked there for more than 30 years.
STORYLINE:
A terracotta head dating back to the 2nd century AD - no doubt once part of a larger statue.
It's on display at the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir alongside other artefacts found in Tebtynis.
The temporary exhibition is now open to the public and they have come to browse a whole range of ancient items for the first time.
Ragged written materials that have somehow survived the passing centuries sit alongside ancient kitchen equipment.
An engraving of Sobek - an ancient Egyptian deity - is a glimpse into the religions of old.
But a case filled with clothing shows the more mundane, day-to-day existence of the time.
The exhibition is opened by Egypt's Minister of Antiquities, Khaled el-Anany, and France's ambassador to Egypt, Stephane Romatet.
El-Anany says he visited the archaeological site where these artefacts were found.
I wanted people to know about Tebtynis area and Umm el-Baragat village as it is only known by archaeologists and Egyptologists, he says.
So I asked the mission working there to organise this exhibition.
The items on display were discovered by the French-Italian mission that worked in Tebtynis from 1988 until November last year.
It was a joint effort between the French Institute of Oriental Archaeology and the University of Milan.
You will find here no large stone statues, precious jewellery or sumptuous coffins, says Laurent Bavay, director of the French Institute of Oriental Archaeology.
Instead objects illustrating the daily life of the inhabitants of an Hellenistic and Roman village in the Fayoum.

October 25, 2019 | For decades the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church has been at the forefront of the struggles for independence and democratic civil society in Ukraine. In this lecture, Archbishop Borys Gudziak, the newly enthroned metropolitan archbishop of Philadelphia, examined the role of Catholic social thought in the engagement of the Ukrainian Catholic Church in public life in Ukraine and throughout the Ukrainian diaspora.
A native of Syracuse, New York, who previously served as bishop of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy in Paris, Archbishop Gudziak is the founder, long-time rector, and now president of Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU) in L’viv, Ukraine. This public lecture serves as the culmination of a UCU delegation’s week-long visit to Georgetown University.

SUMMARY
=======
The Victoria and Albert Museum (often abbreviated as the V&A) in London is the world's largest museum of applied and decorative arts and design, as well as sculpture, housing a permanent collection of over 2.27 million objects. It was founded in 1852 and named after Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.
The V&A is located in the Brompton district of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, in an area that has become known as Albertopolis because of its association with Prince Albert, the Albert Memorial and the major cultural institutions with which he was associated. These include the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum, the Royal Albert Hall and Imperial College London. The museum is a non-departmental public body sponsored by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. As with other national British museums, entrance is free.
The V&A covers 12.5 acres (5.1 ha) and 145 galleries. Its collection spans 5,000 years of art, from ancient times to the present day, from the cultures of Europe, North America, Asia and North Africa. However, the art of antiquity in most areas is not collected. The holdings of ceramics, glass, textiles, costumes, silver, ironwork, jewellery, furniture, medieval objects, sculpture, prints and printmaking, drawings and photographs are among the largest and most comprehensive in the world.
The museum owns the world's largest collection of post-classical sculpture, with the holdings of Italian Renaissance items being the largest outside Italy. The departments of Asia include art from South Asia, China, Japan, Korea and the Islamic world. The East Asian collections are among the best in Europe, with particular strengths in ceramics and metalwork, while the Islamic collection is amongst the largest in the Western world. Overall, it is one of the largest museums in the world.
Since 2001 the museum has embarked on a major £150m renovation programme. New 17th- and 18th-century European galleries were opened on 9 December 2015. These restored the original Aston Webb interiors and host the European collections 1600–1815. The V&A Museum of Childhood in East London is a branch of the museum, and a new branch in London is being planned.

SUMMARY
=======
According to tradition, the history of the Catholic Church begins with Jesus Christ and his teachings (c. 4 BC – c. AD 30) and the Catholic Church is a continuation of the early Christian community established by Jesus. The Church considers its bishops to be the successors to Jesus's apostles and the Church's leader, the Bishop of Rome (also known as the Pope) to be the sole successor to Saint Peter, who ministered in Rome in the first century AD, after his appointment by Jesus as head of the church. By the end of the 2nd century, bishops began congregating in regional synods to resolve doctrinal and policy issues. By the 3rd century, the bishop of Rome began to act as a court of appeals for problems that other bishops could not resolve.Christianity spread throughout the early Roman Empire, despite persecutions due to conflicts with the pagan state religion. In 313, the struggles of the Early Church were lessened by the legalisation of Christianity by the Emperor Constantine I. In 380, under Emperor Theodosius I, Catholicism became the state religion of the Roman Empire by the decree of the Emperor, which would persist until the fall of the Western Empire, and later, with the Eastern Roman Empire, until the Fall of Constantinople. During this time, the period of the Seven Ecumenical Councils, there were considered five primary sees (jurisdictions within the Catholic Church) according to Eusebius: Rome, Constantinople, Antioch, Jerusalem and Alexandria, known as the Pentarchy.
The battles of Toulouse preserved the Catholic west, even though Rome itself was ravaged in 850, and Constantinople besieged. In the 11th century, already strained relations between the primarily Greek church in the East, and the Latin church in the West, developed into the East-West Schism, partially due to conflicts over Papal Authority. The fourth crusade, and the sacking of Constantinople by renegade crusaders proved the final breach. Prior to and during the 16th century, the Church engaged in a process of reform and renewal. Reform during the 16th century is known as the Counter-Reformation. In subsequent centuries, Catholicism spread widely across the world despite experiencing a reduction in its hold on European populations due to the growth of Protestantism and also because of religious skepticism during and after the Enlightenment. The Second Vatican Council in the 1960s introduced the most significant changes to Catholic practices since the Council of Trent four centuries before.
