17. SOUNDBITE (English) Natalia Istratova, Moscow Zoo Press Officer:
This donation is a very big one because the cost of the female is much less than the cost of her transportation to Moscow. So we hope that when she becomes sub-adult animal, we will join (mate) them and we hope that it will be a very good pair and that they will reproduce.

23. SOUNDBITE (English) Alec Wildenstein:
It is important to have a female to get offspring and, first, to keep the male happy. He is much happier to be two. Already, he is quiet compared with yesterday when he was not. And she is looking at him very nicely too so I think they will get along very well together.

She is very beautiful and I am happy to offer something to Moscow. I now live abroad and Moscow Zoo gave us a Russian bear, his name is Potap and he lives in Kenya.

STORYLINE:
Lyuba, a five month-old female giraffe, arrived early on Tuesday morning at her new home in Moscow.
She was a little tired after having travelled all the way from Florida in the United States to be with a new friend.
Lyuba, a 2.6 metre tall baby giraffe travelled in a wooden crate via Chicago and Frankfurt on a Lufthansa 747 Jumbo Jet.
Officials at Moscow Zoo, which will be Lyuba's new home, hope that Lyuba will get on well with and eventually mate with a mature male giraffe already at the zoo.
7 year-old Samon has been alone for three years after losing his previous mate.
Because of financial difficulties, Moscow Zoo had not been able to afford to find him a new partner - the costs of animal transportation are very high.
Lyuba's arrival is in large part due to the generous work of Alec Wildenstein, a French animal lover who organized and financed Lyuba's trip from Florida.
He named the giraffe in honour of his wife, Russian model Lyuba Wildenstein.
Wildenstein was pleased with how well Samon and little Lyuba seemed to be getting on.
As a regular benefactor to the Moscow Zoo, Alec Wildensein was presented with a Russian bear as a thank you present earlier in the year. The Russian bear is called Potap and now lives happily in Nairobi, Kenya.
Giraffes will not live in the same cage for about three more years, however Samon is happy to know that his new friend will be living next door.
