Shri Papanasanathar Temple View [ Papanasam ,Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu , India ]
Paapanasanathar Temple in Paapanasam, a village in Tirunelveli district in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu, is dedicated to Hindu god Shiva. It is located 60 km from Tirunelveli. Constructed in the Dravidian style of architecture, the temple has three precincts. Shiva is worshipped as Paapanasanathar and his consort Paarvathi as Ulagammai. The temple is open from Morning 5.30 - evening 12 and evening 4.30 - 7:30 on all days except during festival days when it is open the full day. The Brahmotsavam festival celebrated during the Tamil months of Chittirai April - May and Thaipoosam during Thai January - February are the most prominent festivals of the temple. Other festivals like Sivarathri and Agasthiyar Thirukalyanam sacred marriage are also celebrated.

Tenkasi is one of the municipalities in the Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu, India. Tenkasi, South Banaras is also famous for its temple. The story of its temple is narrated in an inscription on a four sided pillar set up in front of the gopuram. It is said that God Viswanatha appeared in the dream of Arikeari Parakrama Pandyan who was living in the fort constructed by him at Vinthankottai which is in the east of Tenkasi the frequently visited Banaras to worship Lord Viswanatha, and Lord ordered him to build a new temple at Tenkasi.The king started the work in 1446 A.D the central shrine, the ardhamantapam and the mahamantapam were finished and the god was established in this shrine. Ten years later the building of the nine stories gopuram began and in six years it was completed. In the same year 1463 A. D the king died. Lord Shiva graces in the temple as a swayambumurthi. Worshipping the Lord in this temple is as equal to worshipping the Lord in Kasi – Varanasi. Presiding deity Lord Kasi Viswanatha is visible to the devotee even from a distance of one Km. The temple is so vastly constructed with this facility to the devotees. While Mother Durga faces South in almost all temples, She faces west in this templ.

Agasthiyar Falls is located close to Papanasam in Tirunelveli district in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The falls is located on the Western Ghats and to the south of Papanasam lower, the lake from where Tamiraparani River originates. It is located 42 Kilometer from the nearest city Tirunelveli. As per Hindu legend, it is the place where sage Agasthya got a view of Shiva in his marriage costume. The Tirunelveli district administration organises Chittirai Vishnu festival every year during the Tamil month of Chittirai, during the Tamil New Year day. The falls is usually frequented by devotees of the Papanasanathar Temple, who take a holy dip in the falls before visiting the temple.

Papanasam Falls, 42 km west of Tirunelveli, lies on the Tamiraparani River.
The falls, also called Agastya Falls, is believed to be located at the place where Shiva and Parvati appeared before the sage Agastya.
Papanasam means absolution of sins.
It is an important pilgrim center where people take bath in the waters to relieve themselves from sins.
Papavinashweshwara (Shiva) Temple is nearby.
Papanasam Falls (also known as Agasthiyar Falls) are located in the town of Papanasam.
It is a small town, yet popular tourist destination situated in the Ambasamudram taluk of the Tirunelveli (Nellai) district of Tamilnadu.
The nearest towns are Ambasamudram, Vickramasingapuram (Vikramasingapuram), Kadayam.
The place is also styled as Papavinasam.
Papanasam Falls drop down from a 120 meter high place, conjoined with the rocky walls of Pothigai Hills.
The river Tambaraparani (Tamirabarani), which flows from the Western Ghats of the Pothigai Hills, reaches the plains at Papanasam.
You can find a shrine of Agastiyar Munivar at the foot of the falls and every year his idol is brought out as a procession to the Papavinaseshwara Swami temple to witness the marriage anniversary of Lord Shiva & Goddess Parvathi.
The name Papanasam or Papavinasam means clemency of all sins. The water of the falls is believed to have healing powers and get rid of sins of the people, who take a drench in it.

Nelliappar temple, Tirunelveli
Lord Shiva is the presiding deity of Nelliappar temple. Three medium high temple gopurams having colorful statues. The gateway interior has wooden carving, some are erotic figures. The large temple has 1000 pillared hall, Tamra Sabha for wood work, sculptures and musical pillars (Mani Mandapam). Temple opens at 7 am to 9 am and 5 pm to 7 pm. Arudra Darisanam Chariot festival is in the month of Aani (June 15 - July 15). The other festival is during Dec 15 - Jan 15, Navaratri, Tirukkalyanam in Aippasi (Oct 15 - Nov 15). Nelliappar temple is 3 km from Old bus stand on the Tenkasi road.
