AGASTI DEVASTHAN MAHASHIVARATRI 2018 Live
Pujari tells us story of Agastya Muni Mandir in Pushkar
An Indian priest talks about Agastya Muni in Pushkar Rajasthan.
According to Indian mythology, the God Agni became Sage Agasthya. The gods and the rakshasas have been enemies from time immemorial. They have always been at war with each other. Once the Lord of the Gods, Indra, gave an order to Agni and Vayu (the Gods of Fire and the Winds) to pursue the rakshasas and destroy them. Both of them followed the rakshasas. Many rakshasas were killed in battle. In order to escape from the gods a few of the rakshasas hide themselves in the ocean. As they are hiding in the ocean. No harm will come from these cowards, so thinking Agni and Vayu returned.
Indra was very angry because Agni and Vayu had spared the lives of some rakshasas. He called them immediately and said, Why did you not complete the task given to you? Even now go and churn the ocean, if necessary, and destroy the rakshasas hiding in it. Do not leave a single trace of them. I do not mind even if the ocean dries up. So ordered Indra. Agni and Vayu were in a difficult position. They said, Oh Indra, there are many creatures in the ocean, they have harmed no one. If we churn the ocean, they will die. Will that not be unjust?
Destruction of the wicked is good for the world. Every one should strive to destroy the wicked. Suppose a man gives shelter to a wicked person, knowing that he is wicked - does he not deserve punishment? In such a situation, can there be any question of right or wrong? The enraged Indra cursed them both saying, You have forgotten your duty and have come to teach me the meaning of Dharma (right conduct). For such a discussion the earth is the right place. So, be born on the earth! Thus Agni and Vayu were born as Agasthya and Vasishta (the two great Sages of ancient India) on the earth. Indira's curse became a boon to the earth.
Agasthya's father was Mithravaruna Rishi, his mother was the divine damsel Urvashi. Agasthya was also called 'Kumbhasambhava' (the one who was born in a pot) and 'Mythravaruni' (the son of Mithravaruna). Agasthya grew up to be a great seer and a man of extraordinary spiritual power.

Siddheshwar Temple, Akole-Ahmednagar
This temple was buried till last century under the deposits of Pravara river and was excavated and cleaned ( Panse family was involved).. One of the mukhmandpa is reconstructed then as can be gleaned from the typical later Peshwa period cusp-ed arches and stocky cypress pillars ... Rest of the temple is quite intact in terms of architecture but beams seem to have suffer damage as support pillars are added .. The other two mukhmandapas are closed. This is a rare temple where I saw that floor is made of cow dung ! The temple has one entrance to the river side and one towards land... This is very much in league with Temples of Amruteshwar Ratangad where entrance to Gabhara is from both sides..Temple faces east west...The pillars are beautifully and intricately decorated and pillar bases carry figures of Gods and Goddesses..The external niches to the north and south have badly mutated images of Chamunda and Nataraja...This temple along with several remains along Banks of PravAra like Agasti ashram form important Historical heritage of Akole town.....(Courtesy - Saili Palande-Datar) Akole is a taluka in Sangamner subdivision of Ahmednagar district in Maharashtra State of India. The temple is unique in that way it was buried till 1780 AD. North and south of the west sabhamandapa are small open mandapas. Both side (East & West) Doorframe carving of Sanctum is astonishing but Nandi is placed in East mandapa . In Maharashtra sculpture of camels in temple can be found very rarely. It is here, it's special.

Well constructed steps lead to ancient Buddhist caves situated at the base of the Tankai fort. Beautiful sculptures on the wall, carving on pillars and roof, a duplex cave with gallery, a durga godess temple in the cave is worth looking. Regular steps from Jain caves leads to a main entrance beautifully hidden in fortification walls of Ankai-Tankai forts.
After entering these through entrance, there are two ways diverted to 1)Ankai Fort at right and 2)Tankai Fort to right.
Ankai: After entering through first entrance there is series of gates to reach top of fort.On the way old Buddha cave is there. In cave, on the back wall of the shrine is a three-headed bust, or trimurti, resembles to smaller Elura caves. Number of bats can be seen in this cave.
Tankai : After a first common entrance, the route forks into two directions. One goes to Fort Ankai and the other to Fort Tankai. Steps lead to the damaged entrance of Fort Tankai. Fort Tankai is a huge plateau with a lake and old Mahadev Mandir, ruins of the construction and a bastion.
These were said to be the strongest hill forts captured by the Mughal Emperor Shahjahan in 1635. They command a wide view of Khandesh and Godavari valleys.Vultures and black face langur monkeys can be seen nearby forts.
History
In 1635 Ankai-Tankai fort was captured by Shah Jahan's general Khan Khanan. In 1665 Thevenot mentions Ankai as a stage between Surat and Aurangabad.
During the last Maratha war Lieutenant-Colonel McDowell's detachment came to Ankai on the 5th of April 1818. On the previous day negotiations had been opened with the commandant whose master, a chief in the neighborhood, had sent orders for surrender. On arriving before the fort, as he found matters not fully settled, Lieutenant-Colonel McDowell ordered a pair of six-pounders to the gate of the village at the foot of the hill. This was instantly opened and surrender effected, and a. party from the detachment climbed the lofty battlements of Ankai, and without striking a blow hoisted the British flag on the summit. Garrison retired wining fort without spending a single bullet. The Garrison amounted to about 300 men with about forty guns. The surrender of Ankai was of great importance to the British-raj, as, if it had held out, even for a short time of the numerous other forts would probably have been encouraged to offer resistance. Within the fort were found forty pieces of ordnance with a large store of ammunition. There were about Rs. 12,000 in cash and Rs. 20,000 more were raised from prize sales. A party of 40 native infantry under a European officer was left in the fort. Forts were dismantled in 1827.

Small Introduction with Invitation..Hope you will like it
Bhandardara (Wilson) Dam water reservoir, Maharashtra
Built in 1910 across River Pravara, Wilson Dam is situated at a height of 150 m above sea level. It's one of the oldest dams in the country built in 1910. The opening of sluice gates creates two 60 to 80 feet cascades of water that plummet to the rocks below. It's a spectacular view. Tourists can amble in the circular garden located at the base of the dam. Bhandardara is a holiday resort village on the western coast of India. The village is located in the Ahmednagar district of the state of Maharashtra, about 185 kilometers (115 mi) from Mumbai.
Bhandardara sits by the Pravara River, and is a blend of natural beauty, waterfalls, mountains, tranquility, greenery, invigorating air and pristine ambiance. The Bhandardara Lake and the Randha falls are major tourist attractions. Bhandardara is full of attractions -- from Wilson Dam to Arthur Lake. As legend has it, Shri Agasti Rishi meditated here for a year, surviving only on water and air, pleased with this display of devotion, God came down to Earth and blessed Shri Agasti Rishi with a stream of the Ganges river, which is now known as the Pravara River.
From Bhandardara, you can climb up to see the Ratangad and Harishchandragad fort. Or, you can follow the trails that lead to Ajoba and Ghanchakkar peaks. Also, if you are up for a challenge, the highest peak in Maharashtra, Mount Kalsubai (1646 m), stands tall for you to conquer. The starting point of this challenging trek is Bari Village, located 12 km away from Bhandardara. Atop, there is a small temple and standing. Standing at the summit, you can have panoramic view of Sahyadris and Bhandardara.
Bhandardara provides plenty of opportunity for small treks and hikes for adventure lovers. The most interesting and exciting trek is the small trek to Ratangad fort; to reach Ratangad fort one should take the boat over the small lake near the village Ratanwadi. A popular resort is Anandvaan Resort, located 2800 feet above sea level. The resort boasts both hill and lake views, where visitors reside in private cabins ranging in size and location.
