The Agdal of Marrakesh is an agricultural garden of Almohad origin, which covers more than 500 hectares. It has been declared World Heritage by UNESCO, contains many archaeological and architectural elements of interest and is home to a rich biodiversity.

Entre les monts de l’Atlas et le désert du Djebilet, mitoyenne à la ville de Marrakech, cette oasis de 515 hectares, entourée de remparts, constitue une véritable prouesse technique. Au 12eme siècle, la dynastie des Almohades entreprend de canaliser et stocker l’eau de la montagne. Les vergers de l’Agdal – la « prairie close »- avec ses orangers, ses oliviers, ses grenadiers et ses abricotiers répondent aux besoins de la population. Entre les XIIème et XIIIème siècle, les Almohades, pour protéger leur jardin autant des vents que de leurs ennemis, élèvent une haute muraille, longue de 9 kilomètres.

Botanical Garden in Marrakech
The Jardin Majorelle is a botanical garden in Marrakesh, Morocco. In 1923 he was created by the French painter Jacques Majorelle, in this time he lived in the still french occupied Morocco. The plants in the garden come from all continents. Twenty employees worry daily about the garden and the fountains. In 1980 the French fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre Bergé bought the garden and the adjacent Villa. Yves Saint Laurent took here his inspiration for his collections. In 2008 after his death, his ashes are scattered in the rose garden. In the garden there is also the Islamic Art Museum of Marrakech. Annually the garden is visited by about 700.000 visitors

The Menara Gardens. Marrakech
The Menara gardens (Arabic: حدائق المنارة) are botanical gardens located to the west of Marrakech, Morocco, near the Atlas Mountains. They were established in the 12th century (c. 1130) by the Almohad Caliphate ruler Abd al-Mu'min.
The name menara derives from the pavilion with its small green pyramid-shaped roof (menzeh), meaning lighthouse (منارَة [manaara]). Although there is no actual lighthouse in the gardens, any building that sits at a high elevation is locally known as menara, such as the mosque Menaret manaara. The pavilion was built during the 16th century Saadi dynasty and renovated in 1869 by sultan Abderrahmane of Morocco, who used to stay here in summertime.
The Menara gardens
The pavilion and basin (an artificial lake) are surrounded by orchards and olive groves. The intention of the basin was to irrigate the surrounding gardens and orchards using a sophisticated system of underground channels called a qanat. The basin is supplied with water thanks to an old hydraulic system, which conveys water from the mountains located approximately 30 km away from Marrakech. It also served as a martial station.
