Agios Ioannis Beach – Lefkada Greece
Agios Ioannis beach is the closest beach to Lefkada Town, separated only 2 km away to the west from the town. It is well-organized with sunbeds and umbrellas facing the wonderful sea. Agios Ioannis beach is home to some old windmills that create a charming and unusual atmosphere. The beach has a beautiful turquoise colour of the sea, but there are fewer visitors swimming because of the wind which is almost constant. That is the reason why this beach is so popular among the surfers, therefore, you could enjoy watching the skills of the experienced surfers all day long. Kitesurfing usually takes place in front of the windmills that stand along the right side of the beach because the wind is more stable there, while windsurfing is mostly practiced on the left side, where the winds soften. This beach consists of three parts: Gira, Mili and Agios Ioannis. These three beaches are actually a part of the same beach, which length is about 3km and it has three different names for different parts. The beach is easily reachable by car, it is located next to the road along which there is a lot of parking space.

Lefkada (Lefkas) town is the capital town and lies on the north-east coast of Lefkada island and linked to the mainland by a swing bridge. Lefkas town is a very pleasant, lively, typical Greek town. On the entrance of the harbour, a small square full of verdant trees gives to the town a cheerful and pleasant atmosphere. On the other side is the central square of the town, called Agios Spyridon, which owns its name to the 17th century church that stands on the square. The main shopping street of Lefkada (Lefkas) is pedestrianised and runs from the central square to the port with plenty of tavernas and bars clustered near the harbour end. Some interesting sites are scattered around the town like the Public Library, the Archaeological Museum located in Faneromeni Street, which houses finds from various excavations in the archeological sites of the island, the Gramophone Museum and the Folklore Museum. There are several churches in Lefkada (Lefkas) town that are interesting in some way, such as the 18th century church of Agios Nikolaos, the 17th century church of Agios Dimitrios, the 18th century church of Pantokrator and the church of the Presentation of the Virgin.
