FREE BOATRIDE ON THE DANUBE RIVER | Digital nomad in Budapest
I've been looking forward to sharing this amazing Budapest Tip with you guys! This is one of my very favourite Budapest Travel Hacks. It's beautiful, it's easy – and it's free. Or almost free depending on how you roll.
Hopping on a public boat is a great way to see some of the most beautiful attractions in Budapest. You can hop on the ferryboat and sail up and down the river and spend a couple of hours on the boat, or you can jump on an off and see some of the many Budapest attractions.
The public ferryboats zig-zag across the river from attraction to attraction – The Buda Castle, The Parliament, Fisherman's Bastion, Gellért Hill and many more. You'll get to see the majestic Budapest bridges up close, and you can even bring your own food and drinks on board and have a picnic on the Danube River.
I absolutely adore Budapest! It's one of my favourite cities in the whole wide world, and I'd love to move there someday. Being a digital nomad in Budapest is easy and affordable – and Oh My is it beautiful!
I you're only going for a few days, a free boatride on the Danube river is a great way to see the city! If you have any questions, feel free to leave them in a comment down below, and I'll do my best to answer them for you :)

Hi there! I'm Anne-Li – Danish girl, globetrotter, travel vlogger, blogger and digital nomad traveling the world with my partner in crime and long-term boyfriend Mathias. Spending a month in Budapest every summer taught us that traveling does not have to be expensive and that slow travel is the way to go – for us.
We have been traveling full-time since September 2016, and we usually base ourselves in one place for at least a month or two. This way of traveling is not only budget friendly – it also means that we can take our time and really explore and enjoy the place we're in. We eat local food, shop at local markets, meet local people and enjoy experiencing different cultures – all the while seeking out the best wifi and exploring everything there is to explore. Everyday is another adventure, and we’d love for you to be part of it!
Let's go!

???????? Exporting Hungary's media model| The Listening Post (Feature)
After a third successive landslide election victory this past April, Prime Minister Viktor Orban's dominance over Hungarian politics is clear. And with allies taking over previously critical news outlets, his influence over the Hungarian media seems equally unassailable.
Last month, a member of Orban's ruling coalition took a 50 percent stake in the company that controls advertising revenues for Index.hu, one of Hungary's last news outlets to maintain credibility on both sides of the political spectrum.
The most important question is how the ownership change will affect our independence, says Gabor Miklosi, editor-in-chief of Index.hu. We set up a an 'independence barometer' on a separate web domain from Index. If we feel that someone is influencing our work then we will change the barometer from 'independent' to either 'at risk' or 'not free'.
Following the election, Hungarian media consumers saw the shutdown of the 80-year-old daily newspaper, Magyar Nemzet, and its sister radio station, Lanchid Radio. Under the ownership of Orban-opponent Lajos Simicska, these outlets had maintained a critical stance but suffered big losses after being cut off from state advertising. The sale of Simicska's popular cable news channel, Hir TV, was followed by a shift in editorial line.
In 2015, the previously critical news portal Origo was sold to pro-Orban investors.
Origo used to be a competitor of Index and it used to be independent, Miklosi says. By now, it has been completely degraded and [has become] a propaganda mouthpiece of the government. These tabloids do not function as media, but rather as subsidiaries of the ministry of information.
Tabloids such as Ripost serve the sensationalist bottom end of the Hungarian media market. Coverage tends to be dominated by outrage against the EU, migrants and Orban's political enemies.
According to some, it's an imported media model that Orban's allies are now promoting in countries outside Hungary's borders.
Ripost is a copycat version of Informer in Serbia, says Zselyke Csaky from Freedom House. Orban essentially imported something from another country and now, he's exporting it to other countries in the Balkans.
Ripost's Hungarian co-owner, Peter Schatz, has been linked with investments in media outlets in both Slovenia and Macedonia. In both cases, Hungarian money effectively bailed out loss-making concerns in the run-up to important national plebiscites.
According to Akos Keller-Alant, a journalist at Magyar Narancs, In Slovenia, they bought media co-owned by the right-wing, nationalist, populist party, the SDS. Viktor Orban personally campaigned for SDS leader Janez Jansa during the recent election campaign. In Macedonia, Hungarian-owned media outlets called for a boycott of a referendum on changing of the country's official name to enable it to join the European Union. Both there and in Slovenia, Hungarian-owned media disseminates far-right, populist messages.
On September 12, the European Parliament voted to trigger Article 7 of the EU's treaties against Hungary over the rollback of human rights and civil liberties in the country, including freedom and plurality in the media.
The Article 7 process could lead to Hungary having its EU voting rights suspended. In this context, and with the 2019 elections for the European Parliament approaching, Hungarian investments in the media of other EU and prospective EU member states fit with Orban's ambition to form an alliance in central and southeastern Europe around anti-integration and anti-migrant politics.
On the one hand, they provide know-how. How to rule the media landscape, how to set the public agenda, how to run a propaganda media network, explains Agnes Urban of Mertek Media Monitor. On the other hand, we see 'shopping trip' acquisitions with no genuine business motivations. As in Hungary, it is not lucrative to run a propaganda machine, however, it does pay off in politics.

Our visit Nuremberg travel guide documentary covers some of the top attractions including a food guide (Nuremberg Bratwurst, beer and pretzels), top sightseeing tourist attractions and the city by day including visiting castles, churches and museums. We also cover off-the-beaten-path outdoor activities you won't find in a typical Nuremberg tourism brochure, Nuremberg itinerary or Nuremberg, Germany city tour.
10 Things to do in Nuremberg, Germany travel guide video transcript:
We started our day by taking the U-bahn to the centre of town and getting off at Lorenzkirche. This put us on the south bank of the Pegnitz River, where we took the opportunity to browse some markets before visiting St Lorenz Church.
This is a beautiful gothic church complete with pointed vaults, stained glass windows, and sculptures.
From there we walked across one of the city’s many bridges and continued on to the Beautiful Fountain (yes, that’s the name), searching for a bit of good luck.
One of Nuremberg’s most famed attractions is the Imperial Castle located in the northwest end of the Old Town. The castle is a testament to the power of the Holy Roman Empire during the middle ages.
And we couldn’t come all the way to Nuremberg and not try the famed Nuremberger sausage! We went to Bratwursthäusle, right in the heart of the Old Town by St Sebaldus Church.
Later that afternoon we went into Nuremberg’s deep underground on a tour of the historic beer cellars. Nuremberg has been a beer brewing city for centuries.
While in town, we also took a walk down Weißgerbergasse, which may just be one of the prettiest streets in Nuremberg. This curved cobbled street is lined with half-timbered houses.
Albrecht Dürer’s one time home is now a museum dedicated to his life and work. He was a German Renaissance artist across many mediums, but he is best known for revolutionizing printmaking and elevating it as an art form. At certain times of day, they offer a guided tour with an actress who plays the role of Agnes Dürer, the artist’s wife.
The bridge we were looking for is the Heilig-Geist-Spital, or the Holy Spirit Hospital. It’s not a bridge in the usual sense of the word, rather a medieval building that sits across part of the Pegnitz River.
On a more serious note, we couldn’t leave Nuremberg without also visiting the Dokuzentrum, also known as the The Documentation Center Nazi Party Rallying Grounds.
And that’s a wrap for a our guide to Nuremberg, Germany. If you have any other suggestions of cool things to do in Nuremberg, feel free to share those with fellow travellers in the comments below.
This is part of our Travel in Germany video series showcasing German food, German culture and German cuisine.

Fürstenglanz | Princely Splendour - Trailer
Trailer zur Ausstellung Fürstenglanz - Die Macht der Pracht mit Direktorin Agnes Husslein-Arco und Kurator Tobias G. Natter.
18. März bis 26. Juni 2016, Winterpalais -
Trailer for the exhibition Princely Splendour - The Power of Pomp with director Agnes Husslein-Arco and Curator Tobias G. Natter.
18 March to 26 June 2016, Winter Palace -
Europe is rich in important picture galleries. But how did their fame spread in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries? The exhibition Princely Splendour – The Power of Pomp in Prince Eugene’s Winter Palace reveals how superb collections became widely known via lavishly illustrated publications, so-called Galeriewerke or “gallery albums”. With the aid of numerous loans from all over Europe, the show traces the history of this type of publication and demonstrates how it contributed to successively making important private collections accessible to the public.
