Kashikojima Espana Cruise & Shima Marineland Aquarium in Mie pref. - Trip in Japan
- No. 52 -
Kashikojima Espana Cruise & Shima Marineland Aquarium in Shima city, Mie pref.
------
Shima city is a small city in a beautiful Shima peninsula of Mie prefecture, Japan.
The southern part of the city is Agowan bay, which is part of Ise Shima natinal park.
This time, I enjoyed a tourist ship cruising on Agowan bay and a small and cozy aquarium of the city.
Shima city seems to be seldom chosen as a destination by overseas travelers, but the city is a nice place full of nature.
Thank you.

Ago Bay (英虞湾, Agowan) is a scenic, island dotted bay with a rugged coastline, located at the southern tip of the Shima Peninsula. The bay is famous for pearl cultivation with many oyster rafts floating in the water. The art of pearl cultivation was first mastered by Mikimoto Kokichi in 1893. He was born and grew up on the Shima Peninsula, near from Ago Bay.
An hour sightseeing boat cruises of Ago Bay are offered on two types of ships: large pirate ships, which make a round course in the deeper waters of the bay, and smaller, more agile boats, which also pass through the shallower parts of the bay and in between the small islands.
Transport hub and departure point of sightseeing boat cruises is Kashikojima, the largest island in Ago Bay. The boat piers and Kashikojima Station, the terminal station of the Kintetsu Railway Line, are all located within walking distance of each other on Kashikojima.
Kashikojima Station is the final station of the Kintetsu Shima Line, providing convenient access to Ago Bay.
By train
From Ise-shi Station the trip to Kashikojima takes 45 minutes and costs 1190 yen by limited express train or 70 minutes and 680 yen by local train. From Toba, it takes 30 minutes and costs 980 yen by limited express train or 40 minutes and 470 yen by local train.
Some direct limited express trains from Nagoya, Osaka and Kyoto run all the way to Kashikojima Station.

Ricky Hart - Mamma Mie Part 2 - Shima and Toba
This is the second installment of my trip around Mie Prefecture. From Ise Grand Shrine, we took the train to Shima City, got on a boat and toured around the bay. From there we went to Toba and checked into the hotel. The hotel room was Japanese style (tatami floors, no bed, futon and sliding doors) and it overlooked the bay. It was my first time ever staying in a place in which I was asked to wear their clothes while lodging there. The food was great and they had many activities to do. The food was also exquisite. For more info please look at the section below. Thanks for watching.

Marvellous beauty of Japanese landscape attracts tourists
Ise (Japan), May 30 (ANI): This beautiful view from the observatory is “Ago” Bay, Mie prefecture of Japan, where there are many different shapes of island and the peninsula merges into the beautiful horizon. The summer season has just arrived, which brings a surreal look to the landscape of the Island. In 2016, G7 Ise-Shima summit was held here. The attraction, which is popular among tourists is the cruise ship, on which they can enjoy seeing small islands and pearl farm while enjoying the refreshing wind. In Iseshima area, there are many marine museums. “Toba marine museum” breeds fish from the sea around Iseshima and “Finless Porpoise” one of the seven porpoise species of Dolphin. Here Visitors can enjoy seal shows and breeding techniques. This is dugong. Marine museum has named it “Serena”. The dugong is a large herbivorous animal with a whale-like body and a small head. Chanthaburi (จันทบุรี), Thailand and the entire eastern coast of Thailand are known for incredible seafood, and I was especially excited for this day, to meet Uncle Tom (ป้าหลุยลุงทอม), the Oyster King of Thailand!
Ban Ta Chaelab Pier (ท่าเรือบ้านท่าแฉลบ) - From Chanthaburi town, we drove to the pier to meet up with Uncle Tom who would pick us up in his boat. Uncle Tom is an amazing man, friendly and care, and he knows his seafood.
First, we took the boat to Uncle Tom’s oyster plot in the brackish open waters of the bay. He pulled out giant strands of oysters soaking in the salty water. It was pretty cool to see.
Then we headed over to Uncle Tom’s floating raft restaurant where his wife was already busy preparing a huge Thai seafood meal. She cooked half a dozen dishes, including the massive oysters. The food was awesome, the setting was perfect. This was one of the best experiences I had in Chanthaburi, Thailand!
Here are all the dishes we had:
Oysters (หอยนางรม)
Oyster omelet (ไข่เจียวหอยนางรม)
Tom yum goong (ต้มยำกุ้ง)
Sen Chan pad boo (เส้นจันท์ผัดปู)
Fried barramundi (ปลากระพงทอด)
Steamed crab (ปูม้านึ่ง)
Pla plaa (ปลาพล่า)

Lake Tōya (洞爺湖 Tōya-ko?) is a volcanic caldera lake in Shikotsu-Toya National Park, Abuta District, Hokkaidō, Japan. It is a part of Toya Caldera and Usu Volcano Global Geopark which joins in Global Geoparks Network. The stratovolcano of Mount Usu lies on the southern rim of the caldera. The lake is nearly circular, being 10 kilometers in diameter from east-west and 9 kilometers from North-South. The lake's biggest town, Tōyako is located on its western shore. The town Sōbetsu is located on the other side of the lake.
Lake Tōya is said to be the northernmost lake in Japan that never ices, and the second most transparent lake in Japan. Nakano-shima, an island in the middle of the lake, houses the Tōya Lake Forest Museum.
Lake Tōya was called Kim'un-to (キムウン (kim'un) means in the mountain[3] and ト (to) means lake[3]) by the Ainu. In the Meiji era, Japanese pioneers named the lake Tōya after the Ainu expression to ya, which means lakeland.[3]
The 2008 G8 Summit was held at Lake Tōya and The Windsor Hotel Toya Resort & Spa.
Lake Toya is located in Shikotsu-Toya National Park, in the central-southwestern part of Hokkaido. This area abounds in nature and boasts active volcanoes, such as Mt. Usu, Mt. Showa Shinzan and Mt. Komagatake, in its surroundings and the Funka Bay is on its southern side.
Lake Toya is a famous tourist spot even on a national scale as it boasts a more temperate climate than other parts of Hokkaido, superb access from urban areas and many scenic spots.
In Lake Toya and its environs, emphasis has been placed on overseas promotional activities and an array of characteristic events. Furthermore, efforts are under way to accommodate various types of stays and promote experience-based tourism.
Lake Toya (Tooya-ko in Japanese) is a freshwater caldera lake located about 60 km southwest of Sapporo, and it is located about 40 km west-southwest of Lake Shikotsu.
It is nearly circular and is about 10 km in diameter.
In the center of the lake, there are a big island (Nakajima) 3 km across and three small islands.
This lake doesn't freeze in winter.
Lake Toya was formed by eruption of a volcano about 100 thousand years ago.
The eruption was very powerful, then the volcanic ashes are found throughout northern Japan.
Now on the south side of the lake, there is a very active volcano Mount Usu (737 m).
There is Toyako hot spring resort on the southern shore, and more than a dozen hotels are located.
From here, we have a beautiful view of Mount Yotei distantly over the lake.
Sightseeing ship leaves from the resort area.
It is operated every 30 minutes from mid-April to early November.
It takes about 50 minutes to cruise round. You can land on the central island, then you can take the next ship from the island.
In July 2008, the G8 summit was held here. With refreshing breezes blowing through the land, Shikotsu-Toya National Park is a reservoir of natural beauty which shows a myriad of features from season to season. Lake Toya, at the park's center, is a scenic lake that reflects the dominant Mt. Yotei to its north on its surface. Floating in the middle is Nakajima Island, the perfect environment for Sika deer. On the opposite shore spreads a panorama that includes Mt. Showa Shinzan and Mt. Usu.
Flowers bloom exuberantly in spring. Spectacular fireworks displays take place in the fresh verdure of summer. Vividly colored leaves spread in autumn. And winter is a season of pure white and serenity.
Nature in Toya is infinitely attractive and mysterious.Lake sports thrive at Lake Toya in summer. Contact with nature on a grand scale awaits you. You can enjoy riding a water bike, motorboat or rowboat on the lake. On the verdant land, you can play golf and tennis and enjoy cycling and horseback riding. In winter, you can also ski in the surrounding mountains.
The nature of Lake Toya is perfect for refreshing your mind and body.
From late April to late October, fireworks are launched over the lake every night.

SUMMARY
=======
The Japanese occupation of Nauru was the period of three years (26 August 1942 – 13 September 1945) during which Nauru, a Pacific island under Australian administration, was occupied by the Japanese military as part of its operations in the Pacific War during World War II. With the onset of the war, the islands that flanked Japan's South Seas possessions became of vital concern to Japanese Imperial General Headquarters, and in particular to the Imperial Navy, which was tasked with protecting Japan's outlying Pacific territories. The Japanese hoped to exploit the island's phosphate resources, and to build up their military defences in the area. They were unable to relaunch phosphate mining operations, but succeeded in transforming Nauru into a powerful stronghold, which United States forces chose to bypass during their reconquest of the Pacific. The most important infrastructure built by the Japanese was an airfield, which was the target of repeated Allied air strikes.
The war deeply affected the local population. The Japanese enforced a harsh regime, particularly on Chinese labourers who they saw as being at the bottom of the racial hierarchy; forced labour and brutal treatment were commonplace. They decided to deport the majority of Nauru's indigenous population to the Truk islands, hundreds of miles away, where mortality was extremely high. Still overpopulated with troops and imported labourers, the island was subject to food shortages, which worsened as the Allies' island-hopping strategy left Nauru completely cut off.
Although effectively neutralised by Allied air and sea control, the Japanese garrison did not surrender until eleven days after the official surrender of Japan.
