Taj Mahal was spectacular - a touch of love and attachment. But Agra Fort is majestic. A huge and royal structure that was built by the Mughal emperors before many centuries. The view of Taj Mahal from Agra Fort is further mesmerizing.
Agra Fort is significant historically and is located in Agra in India. While Agra Fort History is too deep and thrilling, we are covering a major part of it in this video.
The fort was the main residence of the rulers of the Mughal Dynasty until 1638. Though the capital was shifted to Delhi, the fort had its prominent role in the Mughal dynasty. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The fort is about 2.5km northwest of Taj Mahal.
Who built Agra Fort?
Emperors Akbar, Jahangir, Shahjahan, and Aurangazeb had contribution in the construction of Agra Fort. The later part of Shahjahan was in this fort after his house arrest by his own son Aurangazeb.
Agra, the city of Mughals were actually known as Akbarabad which was later modified to Agra.

: Agra Fort, is a monument, (Hindi: आगरा का किला, Urdu: آگرہ قلعہ) a UNESCO World Heritage site located in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India. It is about 2.5 km northwest of its more famous sister monument, the Taj Mahal. The fort can be more accurately described as a walled city. After the First Battle of Panipat, in 1526 Mughals captured the fort and a vast treasure - which included a diamond later known as the Koh-i-Noor diamond - was seized. Babur stayed in the fort in the palace of Ibrahim and built a baoli (step well) in it. The emperorHumayun was crowned here in 1530. He was defeated in Bilgram in 1540. Sher Shah and his descendants held the fort for fifteen years. In 1555, Humanyun recaptured it for some time when the Hindu king 'Hem Chandra Vikramaditya' defeated his army and captured the fort. Akbar defeated the Hindu King Hem chanda finally at the Second Battle of Panipat in 1556: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agra_Fort
Agra ; Hindi: आगरा, Urdu: آگرہ), the former capital of Hindustan[citation needed], is a city on the banks of the river Yamuna in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, India, 363 kilometres (226 mi) west of state capital, Lucknow and 200 kilometres (124 mi) south of the national capital New Delhi. With a population of 1,686,976 (2010 est.), it is one of the most populous cities in Uttar Pradesh and the 19th most populous in India.[1] Because 80 percent of the city's sewage flows into Yamuna River, it is 20th most polluted city in India.[2] Agra can also refer to the administrative district that has its headquarters in Agra city.
The city finds mention in the epic Mahābhārata where it was called Agrevaṇa, or 'the border of the forest'.[3] Legend ascribes the founding of the city to Raja Badal Singh, a Sikarwar Rajput king (circa 1475), whose fort, Badalgarh, stood on or near the site of the present Fort. However, the 11th century Persian poet Mas'ūd Sa'd Salmān writes of a desperate assault on the fortress of Agra, then held by the Shāhī King Jayapala, by Sultan Mahmud of Ghazni.[4] Sultan Sikandar Lodī was the first to move his capital from Delhi to Agra in the year 1506; he died in 1517 and his son Ibrāhīm Lodī remained in power there for nine more years, finally being defeated at the Battle of Panipat in 1526.[5] Between 1540 to 1556, Afghans beginning with Sher Shah Suri to Hindu King Hem Chandra Vikramaditya, also called Hemu, ruled the area. It achieved fame as the capital of the Mughal emperors from 1556 to 1658. Later in 18th century it came under Jat rule. It is a major tourist destination because of its many splendid Mughal-era buildings, most notably the Tāj Mahal, Agra Fort and Fatehpūr Sikrī, all three of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agra

Agra Fort is a popular historical fort in the city of Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India. Agra Fort was known to be the main residence of the emperors of the Mughal Dynasty until 1638, after which the capital was shifted from Agra to Delhi. Before the Britishers captured this fort, the last Indian rulers who occupied it were the Marathas. In the year 1983, the Agra fort was got the tag of a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is located at about 2 km northwest of its more well known sister monument, the Taj Mahal. The fort can be more appropriately described as a walled city.
Agra Fort had been built and used majorly by the early mughal rulers including Akbar, Jahangir, Shah Jahan and Aurangzeb. The Fort stands tall on an ancient site and was known as Badalgarh. It was known to be captured by Ghaznavi for some time but later in the 15th century A.D. the Chauhan Rajputs captured it. Soon after, Agra got the status of capital soon after Sikandar Lodi (A.D. 1487-1517) shifted his capital from Delhi and built a few buildings in the existing Fort of Agra. After the first battle of Panipat (A.D. 1526) Mughals occupied the fort and ruled from it. Then Humayun was crowned in the fort in A.D. 1530. The Fort actually got its present appearance during Akbar’s reign (A.D. 1556-1605).
Agra Fort Architecture: The 380,000 m2 (94-acre) fort has a semicircular plan, its chord actually lies parallel to the Yamuna river and its walls are known to be 70 ft high. Double ramparts have massive circular bastions at certain intervals, with battlements, embrasures, machicolations as well as string courses. 4 gates were provided on all the sides, one was the Khizri gate which opened on to the river. Two of the gates of the Fort are notable: the Delhi Gate and the Lahore Gate. The Lahore Gate is popularly known as the Amar Singh Gate, for Amar Singh Rathore.

Shish Mahal or Glass Palace at Agra Fort
This was built by the Mughal King Shahjahan as a Summer Palace. It has two tanks with fountains, interconnected by a canal, and a water fall(Abshar). These water-devices were provided to keep it cool and comfortable in the scorching heat of Agra. The distinctive feature of this palace is the glass-mosaic work which has been done, on a wide variety of stucco designs, on all its walls and ceilings. Glass-pieces have high mirror quality. As the building is made up of thick walls with only a few openings, the semi-dark interior required artificial light, which glittered and twinkled in thousand ways through this glass-work.

Flying over Itmad-ud-Daula which is surrounded by Agra city on the bank of river Yamuna. Itmad-ud-daula has a special place in the chronicles of both history as well as architecture. This is precisely because Itmad ud Daula is the very first tomb in India that is entirely made out of Marble. This is actually a mausoleum that overlooks the River Yamuna and is a tomb of Mir Ghiyas Beg, a minister in the court of Shah Jahan. A railway bridge can be spotted from air. Agra Fort which is also known as Red Fort can also be seen.

Agra fort | Agra Fort Agra | आगरा किला आगरा | HD 60fps Video
Agra fort is best Tourist place in Agra .
Agra fort is a massive fort that was built with red sandstone in 16th century by Akbar. Later Shah Jahan added more decorations using marbles. It is built on the bank of the river, Yamuna. The fort is about 2.5 km in circumference.
It is said that this fort had a lot of underground chambers which were destroyed by invaders including Jats, British and Marathas. Later, British used this fort as their garrison. Even today, a large part of this fort is restricted to army usage.
The first attraction inside the fort is the pearl mosque. It is not open to tourists. On the right of the mosque, you would find an open arena where kings used to listen to petitioners. If you walk up the staircase, you would find gem mosque that was built in 17th century and ladies’ bazaar. From the corridor, you can see Taj Mahal.
At the edge of the fort, you can find the octagonal tower in which Shah Jahan was held as a prisoner by his son as he requested that he wanted to spend his life looking at Taj Mahal.
The courtyard is a large garden with many underground rooms. The last attraction is Jehangir’s palace and you can find a lot of interesting items there including a black stone bowl that was used for bathing by the kings. Today, the fort stands as a remainder of a proud Mughal empire.

Agra Fort is a historical fort in the city of Agra in India. It was the main residence of the emperors of the Mughal Dynasty until 1638, when the capital was shifted from Agra to Delhi. Realising the importance of its central situation, Akbar made it his capital and arrived in Agra in 1558. His historian, Abul Fazl, recorded that this was a brick fort known as 'Badalgarh'. It was in a ruined condition and Akbar had it rebuilt with red sandstone from Barauli area Dhaulpur district, in Rajasthan.[citation needed] Architects laid the foundation and it was built with bricks in the inner core with sandstone on external surfaces. Some 4,000 builders worked on it daily for eight years, completing it in 1573.[3]
It was only during the reign of Akbar's grandson, Shah Jahan, that the site took on its current state. Shah Jahan built the beautiful Taj Mahal in the memory of his wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Unlike his grandfather, Shah Jahan tended to have buildings made from white marble. He destroyed some of the earlier buildings inside the fort to make his own.[citation needed]
At the end of his life, Shah Jahan was deposed and restrained by his son, Aurangzeb, in the fort. It is rumoured that Shah Jahan died in Muasamman Burj, a tower with a marble balcony with a view of the Taj Mahal.[citation needed]
The fort was under the Jat rulers of Bharatpur for 13 Years. In the fort they built the Ratan Singh ki haweli. The fort was invaded and captured by the Maratha Empire in the early 18th century. Thereafter, it changed hands between the Marathas and their foes many times. After their catastrophic defeat at Third Battle of Panipat by Ahmad Shah Abdali in 1761, Marathas remained out of the region for the next decade. Finally Mahadji Shinde took the fort in 1785. It was lost by the Marathas to the British during the Second Anglo-Maratha War, in 1803.[citation needed]
The fort was the site of a battle during the Indian rebellion of 1857, which caused the end of the British East India Company's rule in India, and led to a century of direct rule of India by Britain.

Guided tour around the Agra Fort in India. Historical India, Agra.
The present-day structure was built by the Mughals, though a fort had stood there since at least the 11th century. Agra Fort was originally a brick fort, held by the Hindu Sikarwar Rajputs. It was mentioned for the first time in 1080 AD when a Ghaznavide force captured it. Sikandar Lodi (1488--1517) was the first Sultan of Delhi who shifted to Agra and lived in the fort. He governed the country from here and Agra assumed the importance of the second capital. He died in the fort at 1517 and his son, Ibrahim Lodi, held it for nine years until he was defeated and killed at Panipat in 1526. Several palaces, wells and a mosque were built by him in the fort during his period.
Samrat Hem Chandra Vikramaditya who won Agra in 1553 and again 1556 defeating Akbar's army
After the First Battle of Panipat in 1526, Mughals captured the fort and seized a vast treasure, including the diamond later known as the Koh-i-Noor. The victorious Babur stayed in the fort in the palace of Ibrahim and built a baoli (step well) in it. The emperor Humayun was crowned here in 1530. Humayun was defeated at Bilgram in 1540 by Sher Shah. The fort remained with Suris till 1555, when Humanyun recaptured it. The Hindu king Hem Chandra Vikramaditya, also called 'Hemu', defeated Humanyun's army, led by Iskandar Khan Uzbek, and won Agra. Hemu got a huge booty from this fort and went on to capture Delhi from the Mughals. The Mughals under Akbar defeated King Hemu finally at the Second Battle of Panipat in 1556.
Realizing the importance of its central situation, Akbar made it his capital and arrived in Agra in 1558. His historian, Abdul Fazal, recorded that this was a brick fort known as 'Badalgarh' . It was in a ruined condition and Akbar had it rebuilt with red sandstone from Barauli area in Rajasthan. It was only during the reign of Akbar's grandson, Shah Jahan, that the site took on its current state. Legend has it that Shah Jahan built the beautiful Taj Mahal for his wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Unlike his grandfather, Shah Jahan tended to have buildings made from white marble, often inlaid with gold or semi-precious gems. He destroyed some of the earlier buildings inside the fort to make his own.
At the end of his life, Shah Jahan was deposed and restrained by his son, Aurangzeb, in the fort. It is rumoured that Shah Jahan died in Muasamman Burj, a tower with a marble balcony with a view of the Taj Mahal.
The fort was the site of a battle during the Indian rebellion of 1857, which caused the end of the British East India Company's rule in India, and led to a century of direct rule of India by Britain.

Agra Fort - Agra - Uttar Pradesh - India.
