Destinations
◘ Sankapala Viharaya
Sankapala Raja Maha Viharaya stands majestically on a rocky mountain as ample evidence to prove that this temple has been blessed by the saintly monks who spent their time in peaceful meditation. Situated in the Ratnapura district belonging to the Atakalan Korale Thambagamu Pattu Pallebedda Village the Sankapala Raja Maha Viharaya lies in the outskirts of Ratnapura – Hambantota main road near the 24th milepost. From here a distance of about 150 yds, is the rock mountain wherein the ruins of buildings, a Bo tree, a dagoba, and a cave Deralaya has been found
◘ Ridiyagama Safari Park
It is the first ever Safari Park in Sri Lanka. In 2008, construction work of park was started by the direction of The National Zoological Department of Sri Lanka. The safari park constructed for the expectation of tourism. It would be divided into six zones, where carnivorous animals will be in 4 zones and herbivores animals will be in 2 zones. Meanwhile, carnivore animals such as lions, tigers and leopards will be in 2 zones of the carnivore section. The first phase with the 35-acre African Lion Zone, 54-acre Sri Lanka Elephant Zone and 80 acres World Zone was opened to the public. African, Asian, Australian Zones and a small animal kingdom is under construction as the second phase.
◘ Karandulena
Karambagala Forest Retreat is in the Suriyawewa Divisional Secretariat. It is approached from Ambalantota after travelling a distance of 16km along the Ambalantota –Ridiyagama Road. It is believed to be the Bilivana Vihara identified in the inscription of King Sri Meghavanna (303-331AD). The temple is also named Karandulena owing to its appearance as a relic casket when viewed from a distance.A number of caves with Brahmi inscriptions have been discovered from the area and some of them had undergone changes and acquired new features during the present time as a result of human intervention to improve their appearance. The cave known as Kurundaka mentioned in the Visuddhimagga where a thera by name Cittagutta had resided in it for sixty years, oblivious of the existence of the painting, is believed to be in this site. The cave that could be assumed to be this same cave is having the remnants of a work of art painted in red on a layer of mortar.
◘ Madunagala hot water springs
Madunagala Hot Water Springs lie amoung vast paddyfields between Sooriyawewa and Ridiyagama, Today this hot water well is one of the most popular destinations for the pilgrims to the South. The spring was first recorded by Leonard Woolf, Assistant Government Agent of Hambanthota (1908-11) in his diaries recording the haphazard journey through wild animal infested jungles and boat rides to reach the hot spring where he had taken sample to be analysed. The spring was rediscovered again in early 1960’s with the Uda Walawe development project when the areas coming under the Walawe Basin was turned in to vast agricultural area. Embilipitiya was made the primary town of the project where number of trunk roads from main towns in surrounding Embilipitiya was terminated. Sooriyawewa, about 15 km east of Embilipitiya became the central hub of the left bank region of the Uda Walawe reservoir.
◘ Kirinda Raja Maha Viharaya
Kirinda Rajamaha Viharaya can be reach via Tissa- Kirinda road. This temple is located on a summit of a rocky mountain, just next to the southern coast of Sri Lanka. Due to its location, this temple gives magnificent view of sand dunes beach, the Indian ocean, Kirinda fishing harbor and the rest of the surrounding. Kirinda temple was built by king Kawanthissa. Devotees who are on pilgrimage to Ruhunu-Ktharagama, usually come to this place.
Kirinda temple can be easily spotted from distance, due to the recently constructed standing Buddha statue. Large parking area provided so you can park your vehicle without much hassle.

We can surmount all challenges including LTTE : President
President Mahinda Rajapaksa has said that the government has the capability of surmounting all challenges, particularly defeating terrorism. Opening the Agricultural Technology Park at Bata-atha in Hambantota, he expressed optimism of overcoming the challenge of alleviating poverty.
The President said there are many challenges before them to safeguard the values and to continue with the development process. When they came to power, the North and the East were under the control of terrorists. East has now been liberated while the North is in the process of being released. The other challenge the government was facing is to eradicate poverty. It is currently being addressed.
The government has safeguarded human rights, which no other administration in history had done. Reminiscing human rights violations, which took place in the period 1998 to 1989, he claimed that anyone who thinks of the country cannot make accusations about human rights violations. Certain elements had conspired to betray the motherland at a time when massive development was undertaken, safeguarding human rights to the maximum. The President added that they succeeded in surmounting all these challenges and liberating the East. He opined that the civilians of the North are under the clutches of the LTTE terrorists. They are being forced into military training and are being engaged in hostilities. He emphasised that these civilians should be given an opportunity to live in freedom as the other civilians. As such, he urged support to discharge this task.
In his address, Minister Maithripala Sirisena said such events take place when a government that is interested in local industries, economy and production comes into power. When people say the prices of commodities are high and a new government that imports food items to be provided at reduced prices, after dislodging the present administration, all these come to an end.
The Agricultural Technology Park was built in parallel to the government's programme of strengthening the agri economy. Its main objective is to inculcate the public on agricultural technology. A special centre is sited at the Park to give advice to school children.
Minister Chamal Rajapakse said they put up this Agricultural Technology Park as a tribute to the farmers.
Ministers Hemakumara Nanayakkara and Mahinda Amaraweera were the other speakers. Southern Province Governor Kumari Balasuriya and Chief Minister Shan Wijelal De Silva and Sabaragamuwa Governor Reggie Ranatunga were present.
Cultivation drive a decade ago would have made the country self-sufficient 12-9-09
Sri Lanka would have already reached self sufficiency if the national cultivation drive was started a decade ago. This reference has been made by Dr. Terrence Abeysekera, Senior Advisor of the Agricultural Unit of the World Bank.
Dr. Abeysekera was speaking at the Second National Agricultural and Food Seminar of the Agricultural Faculty of the Ruhuna University in Kamburupitiya. At present, the world is experiencing a food crisis. Even the United Nations has accepted the primacy of developing the agricultural industry to solve the food crisis, despite the worlds advancement in the modern technology sphere. The Senior Advisor of the Agricultural Division of the World Bank observed that Sri Lanka would have reached self-sufficiency if the Presidents concept was implemented a decade ago. Vice Chancellor of the Ruhuna University Prof. Susirith Mendis and the staff as well as scholars attended this seminar.

Nanotechnologies: what we have done in Sri Lanka
By Dr Nilwala Kottegoda
Senior Research Scientist - Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology (SLINTEC), Senior Lecturer in Department of Chemistry, University of Sri Jayewardeneprua
Summary:
Currently, the word 'nano' with big potential has become rapidly insinuating into the world consciousness. Nanotechnology is about new ways of making things. It promises more for less: smaller, cheaper, lighter and faster devices with greater functionality, using less material and consuming less energy. Nanotechnology is an emerging and rapidly growing field whose dynamics and prospects pose many great challenges not only to scientists but also to society. It has already introduced a seismic shift in almost every aspect of science and engineering.
Nanotechnology is still in its infancy stage. Many nations including Sri Lanka have already identified its potential applications and a high level of research and development activities take place. Currently Sri Lanka entirely depends on agro, textile and raw material import economy while we buy both technology and knowledge from developed part of the world. According to recent political and social concerns, Sri Lanka's current vision is for a paradigm shift towards a 'knowledge based' economy.

Transitioning to Green Jobs in Sri Lanka (long version)
In Sri Lanka, recycling, and its associated occupations, are becoming more organized thanks to a collaboration between the ILO, municipal government, worker and employer organizations. The Waste Management Authority that manages Colombo's solid waste disposal is creating green jobs by formalizing the formerly 'freelance' waste pickers that collect plastics, metals and other materials for re-sale. Up to 4,000 waste pickers have received training by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health to improve their methods of collection while raising awareness about protecting their health at work. Meantime, the ILO has been liaising with the tea and rubber plantation owners to buy bio-compost produced as a by-product of the WMA. Supported by the Australian Government - ILO Partnership Agreement (2010-2015) the outcomes are benefiting many in this transition to green jobs in Sri Lanka. Allan Dow of the ILO's Unit for Regional Partnerships reports from Colombo.
Energy, Electricity for Home and Businesses, Buoyancy Power Plant, YouTube
Hallo People. My name is Henk Rademeyer. This is a mini electricity generating power station or mini power plant, if you so prefer. We call this The Buoyancy Power Plant. The amount of power 1 of these Buoyancy Power Plants have, is on average, equal to 500 of these 300 watt solar panels. And here is the difference; it doesn’t need the sun or wind to generate power. It has no batteries and doesn’t work with any fuel. Also meaning: No emissions and environmentally friendly.
The biggest advance is, you can cut your electricity supply from the grid and don’t have to store any power. The unit becomes your own property and only rise in value.
You only have to fill it up ones, with water to the top, and there you go. You’ve just installed your own Endless power system at home, or your business.
Now, the size of the unit plays a big role in your decision. One bigger unit cost less than two smaller ones. However, you can upgrade at any time when your individuals needs changes. My 4 step guide line is the following:
1. Write down the (Watt) displayed on the back plate of all your electrical appliances.
2. What appliances will be ON, at the same time? Count their (Watts) together. Make this Group A.
3. Group B will be the appliances NOT always ON.
4. Take the biggest one in Group B, add it to Group A. The answer is the size unit to buy.
Now that you have your answer, look at these estimated prices.
Despite its simple inside appearance, this unit is complicated in every sense of the word. It took years before all the calculations add up to a satisfying answer. New technology on permanent magnet generators and designing software made this possible. The Intellectual property belongs to H W Rademeyer. This is (my self). Any copies of these units will end up in a lawsuit because, the end goal of this business is to spend any surpluses (think of profit), on cleaning our environment. I will not allow any individual or organization to gain profit for personal use. It belongs to Mother Earth.
You are free to distribute this video by any means.
You may have just, watched the single most important video in your life that will change the future as we know it.
