Palenque, Mexico - Palenque ruins & Agua Azul waterfalls
Palenque, Mexico. In the first days of being in Palenque we both visited the Palenque ruins and the mind blowingly beautiful waterfalls of Agua Azul. Unfortunately both me and Morgan were sick during this visit so not in too high of spirits - but I hope you enjoy the beautiful pictures of what Mexico has to offer :)

Agua Azul Waterfalls - Palenque, Mexico
Agua Azul Waterfalls | English | Subtitles | 2018 | Palenque | Chiapas | Mexico
In this vlog I am exploring the waterfalls at Agua Azul. Typically, this is a very touristy place, but after all the rain, I was one of the few people there, which allowed me to get some great footage.
The local village was nice, but the waterfalls were awesome. Meaning Blue Water in English, Agua Azul is normally very blue, but due to the rain the water was pretty brown this day - but very pretty nonetheless

Agua Azul Waterfalls: one of Mexico's water Wonder
Support us on Patreon
In this episode, we will show you another MExico's water wonder: Agua Azul waterfalls.
Mexico's southernmost state of Chiapas boasts immense biodiversity and a climate that ranges from fresh and cool in the highlands to humid and hot in the jungle lowlands.
Close to the Lacandon jungle and the Usumacinta River, which divides Mexico and Guatemala, dozens of waterfalls dot the landscape. One of the most majestic of these falls has to be Agua Azul.
The Agua Azul waterfalls are located roughly 40 miles from Palenque and 80 miles from San Cristobal de las Casas in the state of Chiapas, southern Mexico.
The waterfalls get their name, Agua Azul, meaning Blue Water, perhaps rather obviously because the water thundering down it has a bright blue hue. Their incredible color is, in fact, because the high mineral content of the water, which deposits itself on the rock.
The limestone-rich deposits also give the waterfall an interesting, undulating shape.
The power of nature is clearly visible by the trees clinging to the banks by just their roots at a 90-degree angle. The farther up you get the more you can enjoy the falls away from the hustle and bustle of people and market stalls.
Enjoy the ride with us!

Cascada Aqua Azul -waterfall- Palenque, Mexico - Maya Trip -ep29- Travel vlog calatorii
The Cataratas de Agua Azul Blue-water Falls are located in the Municipality of Tumbalá, 69 kilometers from Palenque by the road that leads towards San Cristóbal de las Casas. The larger cataracts may be as high as 6 meters. The water is as blue as it looks, and has a high mineral content.
Update March 2017: Entrance fee is 50 pesos per person. Bring swimming suites, because it's hot there and a welcoming fresh water.

Cascadas Agua Azul, Chiapas. Que hacer y como llegar. Drone & gopro

Agua Azul Waterfall in Chiapas Mexico
Agua Azul Waterfall (Blue-water Falls) is located in the Mexican state of Chiapas, about 42 miles from the Mayan Ruins of Palenque. The exquisite turquoise color occurs because the water is heavily laden with minerals like calcium, which coat the surrounding vegetation and deposit in the stream to create calcified stepping stones. In many places the water descends in two streams, with small islands in the middle. Follow the path up the hillside to a narrow dirt path that branches off to the right. This leads to an overlook (look for the sign tacked to a tree that says mirador) that offers a spectacular view of the entire cascade as it tumbles down the mountain. Swimming is allowed in the lower pools and restaurants and vendors provide meals and snacks.
Most tourists visit this cascade on a day tour from the Mayan Ruins of Palenque. Taking a tour is recommended because this area of Chiapas still experiences Zapatista resistance and the locals hold ropes across the road in an attempt to extort money for crossing into their territory. Most tours combine Agua Azul with a second waterfall, Misol Ha, which is worth seeing but pales in comparison to Agua Azul. To read more about my world travels visit my blog,
