Agumbe ghat with full of hairpin curve...
Beautiful and dangerous place in Karnataka
Agumbe Ghat Road, Karnataka, India
The Agumbe Ghat section with its hair pin curves is one of the most challenging roads for loaded vehicles to tackle. With 14 sharp hair pin bends, only skilled drivers can maneuver through this ghat section that lies in the midst of the Agumbe rain forest in Shimoga district of Karnataka state, India. This is now categorized as a national highway and links Mangalore and Udupi with Shimoga, Thirthahalli and even the world famous Jog Falls.
In this video, a bus and a loaded pick-up truck can be seen ascending the ghat section. I stayed behind them on purpose to record this video.

Bike Ride // Agumbe Ghat, Karnataka
A ride through the Agumbe Ghat section in Shimoga district of Karnataka state, India.
Agumbe Ghat lies in the Agumbe rainforest which is known to receive the second highest amount of rainfall in India. The Agumbe ghat highway connects Udupi and Shimoga districts via Hebri and Thirthahalli. Driving larger vehicles safely through the 14 hair pin bends requires skill and expertise. Larger trucks and buses cannot take on the sharp curves and thus, most of the buses that run along this road are cut chassis ones(shorter wheelbase). Buses running from Mangalore and Udupi to Shimoga use this road. Some buses take the longer route via Kundapur and Hulikal ghat.
