MAUI - SWIM WITH WILD DOLPHINS | La Perouse Bay | Hawaii
The last day of the trip AND my birthday! I was pretty sure I was going to have an uneventful birthday after our week of adventure, but I ended up swimming with FREAKING DOLPHINS!!! We met a guy that told us about La Perouse Bay and that it was a great place to possibly swim with dolphins. So early on my birthday, we went to check it out!

SNORKELING MAUI Ahihi and the Dumps (GoPro 1080P HD)
A #BestSnorkeling on the South end of #Maui with my favorite person. So grateful for the beauty around us and the mesmerizing music from Blue Dot Sessions. The bright coral appears to be coming back. I like to #FreeDive. Carla likes to #surfacesnorkel. TURN ON CC for info cards. The #spottedeel was very fast and only about three feet long. It was thin, about the diameter of a vacuum cleaner hose. It disappeared back into the coral so I slowed the video a bit to extend what I captured. What amazing creatures! What an amazing place. Hope you enjoy!

Best Beach in Maui Hawaii - Makena : Ep.01
For those who know me well you know I love Hawaii, especially the Island of Maui, it has the best beach in Hawaii. It is by far my favorite Hawaiian Island. Yes, I know, all of the Islands are very beautiful and they each have their own unique flavor but there is just something about Maui that speaks to my soul. I can’t really explain it.
I’ve been visiting Maui Hawaii since 1998 and it’s by far my favorite Island in Hawaii. There is a special feeling in Maui that is unlike any other Island. No offense Oahu, Kauai, Molokai, and Big Island. But Maui has my heart.
My favorite Hawaiian island, Maui
On this recent trip to Hawaii we were only there for four days and two of those days were rained out. We arrived around 2:00pm and rented a car in Kahului then made a routine stop at Walmart for provisions. We then proceeded to the Kaanapali area and grabbed a mixed plate at L&L BBQ.
Endless buckets of rain
One thing to remember when making your travel plans to Hawaii is that all these tropical plants and trees are green and lush because it rains a lot. In fact, if you look at the weather in Maui on your mobile phone app, you will more than likely see that the forecast will show rain every day. Don’t be alarmed! This is normal. And it will more than likely rain every day. But these rain storms usually only last an hour or two.
This was actually my first trip to Hawaii where it rained for 2 days straight. In fact, the temperature dropped down into the low 60s. Which is rare for the Islands.
And even more rain in Maui
Undeterred, we ventured out and enjoyed as much as we could despite the rain. The jungle trail at Honolua Bay was particularly fun in the rain with all the lush green plants and trees. We were also able to enjoy the sites and shops in Lahaina Town which is nice when it’s sunny but still fun during the rain.
It’s important to keep your plans flexible when visiting Maui Hawaii as you will probably want to work around the weather.
Our first sunny warm maui beach day
So after two days of constant rain, the clouds parted and the rain stopped. We couldn’t wait to get our swimsuits on and head to the beach.
Of all the beaches I have visited in my lifetime, Makena is my favorite. Why? The sand is a beautiful unique color and texture and the water is turquoise blue. It’s clean and beautiful and generally warm and free of bugs and flies. It is the best beach in Maui Hawaii.
Be sure to heed the warnings of the lifeguards. The shore breaks here can literally break your neck. The waves will usually chill out early in the morning and late in the afternoon. If you feel adventurous, you can hike over to Little Beach but beware, it is often populated with clothing optional beach goers and “maui wowie” smokers. So if that’s the kind of thing you are into, knock yourself out!
Also, be sure to take a walk to the south end of Makena Beach (big beach) where the sand meets the exposed black lava rock. Great photo ops at sunset! You will see why Makena Beach is the best beach in Maui Hawaii.

* Bonus Secret Spot: If you want to see some great untouched reef and tropical fish, drive to southwest side of the Island to Ahihi Bay area of Ahihi-Kinau Natural Area Reserve. You can walk along a shore for about half a mile to the end of the trail where you can literally see the coral reef and dozens of fish before you even enter the water. Be smart and swim with a partner and keep an eye out for big fish. Stay close to the shore.

Honolua Bay Maui
Honolua Bay is one of the best snorkeling spots in the world! There are huge sea turtles and an abundance of fish there! I apologize for the video quality. It was a little shaky and it was also a cloudy day. It's very rocky on both the beach and under the water. This is definitely a place for snorkeling and not enjoying the beach. I recommend Kapalua, Kaanapali or Wailea for soft sand. Aloha!

Snorkling at Honolua Bay, Maui, Hawaii
Honolua Bay is part of the Honolua-Mokuleia Bay Marine Life Conservation District. The snorkling here is supergood for sure. It's the full body tropical aquarium experience. Finding 3 ft sea turtles is not too hard as you can see. The beach is a privately owned rocky shoreline. Honolua Bay is accessible via a short jungle hike or by boat. Honolua Bay is also a favorite spot for experienced surfers.

NAPILI BEACH - THE HIDDEN GEM OF MAUI | VLOG 49
Today we went to Napili Beach in Maui. My good friend Mike said this was a must see and boy was he right. The sand was so soft and the water was warm and clear. Napili Beach was a little tough to find so for anyone going if you park near the Napili Kai Beach Resort there are access paths to the beach around the area. Parking can be tough though. You can park on the main street as well but its a little further of a walk. The place gets crowded in the mornings but by early afternoon it clears out nicely and there is a lot more room. Napili Beach is fairly small but it has everything you'd want including some good snorkeling spots.
One side note of Maui, everyone is SO friendly. Not only the locals but everyone visiting that we've encountered has been super nice. Often times when I fly the drone I get the stink eye from people but people in Maui were waving to it and asking questions and just overall nice.

Maui Hawaii Travel Iao Valley | The Battle of Kepaniwai | Day visit to this beautiful State Park
At this beautiful park, you can enjoy things like swimming, hiking, picnics, photography, scenic views, and explore botanical gardens featuring native Hawaiian plants, Plan to spend anywhere from 1-3 hours at Iao Valley depending upon your interests.
Iao marks a historic place in Hawaii's history.
The Battle of Kepaniwai was fought in 1790 between Hawaiʻi Island and Maui. The forces of Hawaiʻi were led by Kamehameha I, while the forces of Maui were led by Kalanikūpule. It is known as one of the most bitter battles fought in Hawaiian history.
The streams of Iao Valley were said to have been blocked by bodies after the battle finished, the reason behind the name Kepaniwai, meaning “the damming of the waters.”

Snorkeling at Ulua Beach, Maui, Hawaii
On the Hawaiian Island of Maui, the town of Kihei offers a wide range of rental condominiums, shops and restaurants. For visitors who enjoy shallow water snorkeling, Kihei provides access to many popular underwater sites. Daily, dive boats from the Mā‛alaea Harbor and the Kihei Small Boat Harbor make early morning offshore trips to the partially-sunken crater of Molokini. For shoreline dives, Ahihi Bay and Ahihi Cove in the Ahihi Kinau Area Natural reserve are sites noted for abundant fish, but rocks and pebbles make for a difficult water entry. For a pain-free entry from a sandy beach, the Ulua Beach diving site is extremely popular with both snorkelers and beginner-level scuba divers. This beach is in the Wailea Resort area, with a large public parking lot (best to arrive before 9 a.m., though) showers, and rest rooms. As with all Kihei-area dive sites, the morning hours provide the calmest and clearest water conditions ---- in the afternoon, clouds tend to arrive from the Haleakula volcano area, and brisk Trade Winds create waves.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION:
I shot the JPEGs and video clips in this YouTube video using a CANON PowerShot ELPH 100HS point-and-shoot digital camera in an inexpensive, waterproof DiCAPac WP-ONE “plastic pouch” (from Amazon.com).
This pouch uses a heavy-duty zip-lock seal, rolled up tightly and held in place with Velcro. The porthole is coated glass, and the soft vinyl body is flexible enough for operation of camera buttons. (I added a desiccant capsule from a bottle of over-the-counter pills). I also set the CANON camera for wide-angle operation (underwater, this setting is effectively normal angle), and used the Program mode set as Underwater ----- this boosts red to counteract the overall blueness of underwater scenes (just remember to reset to a normal auto mode for dry-land pictures!).
Underwater, I found that viewing the camera's LCD screen was a lot easier than squinting through a viewfinder. Having 8 GB of camera memory, of course, left me free to take lots of images, and even lots of 1280x720 HD movie clips. Overall, with clear seawater and bright sunshine, the camera/camera pouch combination produced amazingly realistic underwater digital images.
Great snorkeling spots to view Hawaii’s Tropical Fish
There are few things that visitors to Hawaii enjoy more than putting on their fins and heading for the warm ocean waters surrounding Hawaii’s islands. Water temperatures during the year usually range between 74 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Hawaii’s waters generally are crystal clear with excellent visibility, especially in protected marine reserves on each island and Molokini.
But more than anything else, visitors are attracted to the colorful fish, beautiful coral formations and incredible marine life below the water’s surface. Hawaii’s great snorkeling spots with lots in tropical fish include the state’s 11 Marine Life Conservation Districts (MLCD). Others can be found in some of the state’s most scenic locations. Snorkeling or diving in each of these locations provide very different kind of experiences.
Snorkeling tours along Kauai’s scenic Na Pali Coast often are combined with visits to Ni’ihau and the turquoise waters of Lehua Crater. A small, crescent-shaped island just north of Ni’ihau, Lehua’s clear waters are home to a very large number and variety of reef-feeding fish and the island itself is a Hawaii State Seabird Sanctuary. As a sanctuary, Lehua provides habitat for at least 16 species of sea birds. In Lehua’s waters, snorkelers will commonly encounter large schools of brightly colored fish including Pyramid, Milletseed, Pennant Butterflyfish and many other Butterflyfish including Raccoon, Fourspot, Longnose and the Saddleback.
A stunning variety of tropical fish and coral diversity are found off portions of the Big Island’s Kona Coast and also near the northern end of the island. Historic Kealakekua Bay is known for incredibly clear water and healthy coral reefs teeming with colorful fish. Kealakekua Bay is part of an MLCD that includes pristine waters and diverse marine life. Elsewhere around the Big Island, an abundance of tropical fish also is found near the Old Kona Airport and north from Kawaihae in the Waialea part of Kawaihae Bay and near Lapakahi State Historical Park.
Hanauma Bay on Oahu is home to hundreds of colorful fish species, sea turtles and a living coral reef with countless underwater passageways to explore. Countless visitors have confirmed that this stunning aquatic environment is unlike any other in Hawaii or even on the planet. Fortunately Hanauma Bay is one of Hawaii’s protected MLCD sites along with Pūpūkea and Waimea Bay Beach Parks on the north shore of Oahu.
Maui is unsurpassed in Hawaii for its abundance of tropical fish and variety of snorkeling sites. Honolua Bay is an MLCD located on the northwestern end of Maui. No fishing of any kind is allowed there making for sea life density and diversity that is second to none on Maui. Night diving reveals otherwise hidden nocturnal sea creatures. Snorkelers flock to its colorful coral reefs of Honolua Bay and also scuba divers looking for eagle rays and spinner dolphins.
Ahihi Kinau Natural Area Reserve is located on the southern coast of Maui just past Makena. It is a Marine Life Conservation District with a coastline mostly made up of lava rock intermixed with coral. The abrupt contours of the sea floor make perfect homes and hiding places for aquatic life to flourish.
Molokini is owned by the federal government and is a protected Hawaii State Seabird Sanctuary. Molokini is home to about 250 species of fish and a variety of other marine life. On most days in the crystal clear water, with more than 150 feet of visibility, you’ll encounter one or another of the fish that I plan to talk about in several videos: trigger fish, tangs, parrotfish, butterfly fish, trumpet fish, needle fish, wrasse, Puffer fish, angel fish, clown fish, Moorish idols and much more.
