ऐतिहासिक अहमदनगर किल्ला - Historical Ahmednagar Fort
This Ahmadnagar fort is historic for India's First Prime Minister 'Pandit Jawahar Nehru' held here as a Prisoner by British government from 10 Aug 1942 to 28 March 1945 around 2 years 8 months during struggle for Independence. Here he Started & Finished his book 'Discovery of India'.
History of the is much older, This fort was built by Malik Ahmad Nizam Shah I in 1427 CE, is located 1 km away east of Ahmadnagar city in Maharashtra.
Other famous political leaders also kept here in Leaders' Block as Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad, Acharya J.B. Kruplani, Ms. Asaf Ali, Pandit Govind Vallabh Pant, Acharya Narendra Dev, Dr. P.C. Gosh, Pandit Harikrushna Mahtab, Dr. Sayed Mahemood, Shankar Rao Deo, Dr. B. Pattabi Sitaramayya during the Struggle for Independence from 1942-45. .
This 500-year old fort is circular in shape and has 18m high wall reinforced with 22 bastions. To keep enemy at bay, a deep trench was dug that surrounded the fort.
Although, the Indian army occupies the fort, entry into the fort is allowed by signing at the gate. But photography is not allowed inside the fort.
Ahmadnagar is in the central Maharashtra, which is close to most of the major cities in Maharashtra. Pune is 120 km away from here, while Mumbai is at a distance of 300 km. Its good location makes Ahmadnagar easy to reach both by road and by train. Good hotels are available in Ahmadnagar.

THE BRITISH ATTACKED IN 1803 AND TOOK OVER THIS FORT FROM THE MAHARATTAS .FREE INDIA'S FIRST PRIME MINISTER JAHAWARLAL NEHRU WROTE HIS BOOK THE DISCOVERY OF INDIA. WHILE HE WAS IMPRISONED IN THIS FORT WITH OTHER FREEDOM FIGHTERS. THE FAMOUS CANNON MALIK -E-MAIDAN WAS CASTED AT AHMEDNAGAR BY RUMI KHAN. The fort was built by Malik Ahmad Nizam Shah I (after whom the city of Ahmednagar is named) in 1427 CE.[4] He was the first sultan of the Nizam Shahi dynasty and he built the fort to defend the city against invaders from neighbouring Idar.[4] Initially it was made of mud but major fortification began in 1559 under Hussain Nizam Shah. It took four years and was finally finished in 1562.[5] In 1596, Chand Bibi the queen regent successfully repulsed the Mughal invasion but when Akbar attacked again in 1600 the fort went to the Mughals.[5][6][7]
Aurangzeb died at Ahmednagar fort at the age of 88 on 20 February 1707. After Aurangzeb's death, the fort passed to the Nizams in 1724, to Marathas in 1759 and later the Scindias in 1790. During the period of instability in the Maratha Empire following the death of Madhavrao
