Tour Easter Island: Ahu Huri a Urenga Moai
This gigantic Moai is one of the few to be erected inland and appears to be oriented towards either the winter or summer solstice. It got confusing when guide Alex started talking about the Northern Hemisphere vs. the South Hemisphere solstice. Supposedly, the sun directly hits its face on either December 21 or June 21. Feel free to weight in on the facts.
It is also exceptional because it has two sets of hands and 20 fingers! The second is carved above the first and researchers believe that is because the lower set was damaged during transport to the Ahu.. FYI: Ahu has two meanings: flat mound or stone pedestal upon which the moai stand; or a sacred ceremonial site where several moai stand.

Anakena where the wind blows like a gentle sweep of the moai statue hat. He said he came here to have a wedding in Chile, but he also had a pretty umbrella and hat for the guests. I talked to the bride and it was a wonderful decision to have a wedding here. The ceremony itself is exotic and my family as well as the bride's family came together and did all the time together for the whole week. It's not a wedding that ends in a day, it's like a family gathering where everyone can come together for a week. When you set up a few pillars and prepare a chair and table, you're ready for an outdoor wedding. The bridegroom who is busy in and out of the way. What is it? The bride says she has not arrived yet. 40 minutes later, the bride finally showed up with the guitar sound. South Pacific Ocean Blue sea and palm trees transform the minds of exhausted visitors into a celebratory atmosphere. The moai statue also seems to applaud the celebration. So kissing passionate love in this magnificent outdoor wedding venue. At this moment, nobody will be happy. I have met the man of my life and I have everything. Finally, the marvelous wedding ceremony under Moai statue is finished with awe in regards to Rafanui and Makemake.

EASTER ISLAND: EXPLORING the mysterious 15 MOAI (STATUES) of AHU TONGARIKI platform????
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's visit Ahu Tongariki which is the largest ahu (platform)on Easter Island. Its moai (statues) were toppled during the island's civil wars and in the twentieth century the ahu was swept inland by a tsunami. It has since been restored and has fifteen moai including an 86 tonne moai that was the heaviest ever erected on the island. Ahu Tongariki is one kilometer from Rano Raraku and Poike in the Hotu-iti area of Rapa Nui National Park. All the moai here face sunset during Summer Solstice.
Ahu Tongariki is the most majestic ceremonial platform on the whole island. Words can’t describe the impression one receives while contemplating this ahu and its 15 gigantic sculptures, framed by a turquoise sea background with the sound of the waves crashing on the cliffs. Ahu Tongariki represents the maximum splendor of the island’s sculptures. With a ceremonial 220-meter long platform, it’s the largest structure of this nature in all of Polynesia.
Easter Island, a Chilean territory, is a remote volcanic island in Polynesia. Its native name is Rapa Nui. It’s famed for archaeological sites, including nearly 900 monumental statues called moai, created by inhabitants during the 13th–16th centuries. The moai are carved human figures with oversize heads, often resting on massive stone pedestals called ahus. Ahu Tongariki has the largest group of upright moai.

Mystery of Moai Statues - Easter Island
Moai are monolithic human figures carved by the Rapa Nui people on the Chilean Polynesian island of Easter Island between the years 1250 and 1500 CE. Nearly half are still at Rano Raraku, the main moai quarry, but hundreds were transported from there and set on stone platforms called ahu around the island’s perimeter.

Easter Island - Ahu Nau Nau #1 - 24 January 2014 - Day 3
Vinapu on Easter Island
Vinapu features a female moai statue although it is so badly weathered it is difficult to tell and some very fine stonework similar to that of the Inca’s. which has led some people to theorise that the Island was populated from the East rather than the West and Polynesia (although all the evidence points to the first inhabitants coming from the West). There is also a number of fallen moai and topknots here.
Ahu Vinapu is an archaeological site on Rapa Nui (Easter Island) in Eastern Polynesia.
The ceremonial center of Vinapu includes one of the larger ahu on Rapa Nui. The ahu exhibits extraordinary stonemasonry consisting of large, carefully fitted slabs of basalt. The American archaeologist, William Mulloy investigated the site in 1958.
Heyerdahl believed that the accurately fitted stonework showed contact with Peru, but both Vinapu I and Vinapu II were constructed earlier than 1440 and similar work only shows up in Peru after 1440.
The stone wall faces towards sunrise at Winter Solstice.
Vinapu is part of the Rapa Nui National Park, which UNESCO has declared a World Heritage Site.

Tour Easter Island: Puna Pau, or the Top Hat (Pukao) Quarry
There were over 30,000 natives on the island until around 1790 when many were taken to Peru as slaves. When they returned, some kind of illness accompanied them which decimated the population until only 111 people were left from the original indigenous population. End result is almost every Polynesian on Easter Island is related to guide Hugo!
Scoria, a dark-colored volcanic rock, was excavated from the Top Hat or Top Knot quarry; a finishing touch for the statuesque (yuk-yuk) Maoi. Called Pukao, some are up to 10 feet tall and weigh 20 tons! About two dozen finished top hats can been seen in this quarry. Hugo did a fast demonstration in this video about how the top hats were quarried.

Tour Easter Island: Ana Kai Tangata Cave at Vinapu
There is only one medical professional on Easter Island who handles minor injuries. Buy travel insurance because a jet has to fly out serious problems and, of course, the person with the emergency will have to pay for it.
Ana Kai Tangata is a seldom visited cavern on the coast that holds the island's only cave paintings. Red and white Bird Men images can still be seen inside but a Tsunami destroyed most of the drawings and the cave is disintegrating. A rocky but safe path leads down to the cavern.
Ahu Vinapu
