Sunset at Ahu Tahai, Easter Island, Chile
Beautiful sunset at Ahu Tahai, Easter island,Chile. Hermoso atardecer en Ahu Tahai, isla de Pascua.
Ahu Tahai | Easter Island | Rapa Nui | Chile
That´s the second part of the third day.
We were just walking around easter island and exploring different places such as Ahu Tahai.
We also checked out a different place to watch the typical Rapa Nui dance. You can make up your own mindof which one is better at the end of the video.
Tour Easter Island: Ahu Akivi and Tahai
There are seven Moai at Ahu Akivi gazing out to sea but in an inland location. They are believed by researchers to to represent explorers sent by King Hotu Matu to scout out the area but guide Hugo thinks differently; he says they are seven king. Whatever, they are impressive.
But Tahai was more interesting to me, particularly the information about how houses were built in the shape of upside down canoes (people would crawl in and out for defensive purposes), and their chicken houses! Big ramps also remain from the days when people made boats and hauled them down to the sea, before deforestation after which they were cut off from civilization until 1800s.
So much to see and so much to learn...

We headed to Tahai, west of Easter Island. It is famous for its beautiful view of the sunset below the South Pacific with Moai statue in the background. The people gathered one by one as they promised to watch the sunset here. When the glare begins to fade away on the horizon of the South Pacific Ocean, the golden romance slowly setstles in people's minds.

The three ahu of Tahai
But without a doubt, the great focus of attention at Tahai are its three ahu or ceremonial platforms located on the small rocky cliff that rises above the sea. The altars form a visual line that stars in this magnificent setting. If you look straight at the platforms, the first group on the left with five moai statues is the Ahu Vai Uri, the next one is the Ahu Tahai and the last one with a single statue wearing a pukao or hat is the Ahu Ko Te Riku.
Ahu Vai Uri
The Ahu Vai Uri, whose name could be translated as dark water or green water, is the platform with the largest number of erected statues. Its construction dates from 1200 AD. and its five restored moai are a sample of the different styles of how they were carved.
The first one on the right is currently a piece of rock that is barely recognizable. However, the one that follows, much better preserved as such as the first on the left, has a lower and more robust body than the rest and shows a grim expression.
Ahu Tahai
Ahu Tahai has a single solitary moai about 4.5 meters high. The figure, which is very eroded, shows a thick torso and a wide neck, and rises on the oldest platform of the complex built around 700 AD.
Despite the enormous wear suffered by the moai over time, it still shows the greatness and pride of the ancestors they represent and, in some way, still transmits that mythical power called mana.
Ahu Ko Te Riku
Ahu Ko Te Riku is the last and singular platform located further north. Above it rises a single moai of 5.1 meters high that was restoredwith all the elements that adorned the old finished statues.
On his head it carries a pukao, a cylindrical piece carved in red scoria from the Puna Pau volcano. This form, which according to different opinions, represents a hat or a hair bun, was placed in the last phase of construction of the ahu. It is believed that the original pukaoof this moai was used to carve the Christian cross that is found in the nearby cemetery to Tahai, but there is not even the certainty that it had one. The other differentiating element of Ahu Ko Te Riku is that it supports the only moai that has eyes of the whole island.

EASTER ISLAND, EXPLORING the platform (AHU) architecture of the statues (MOAI) ????
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's go to this mysterious island let's explore the architecture of the Ahu, that is, the platforms used where the famous Moai (statues) used to stand on. No one has ever attempted to describe these platforms, this is the first attempt here.
Easter Island, a Chilean territory, is a remote volcanic island in Polynesia. Its native name is Rapa Nui. It’s famed for archaeological sites, including nearly 900 monumental statues called moai, created by inhabitants during the 13th–16th centuries. The moai are carved human figures with oversize heads, often resting on massive stone pedestals called ahus. Ahu Tongariki has the largest group of upright moai.

Ahu a Kivi, Rapa Nui, Easter Island, Chile
Ahu Akivi is a particular sacred place in Rapa Nui in the Valparaíso Region of Chile, looking out towards the Pacific Ocean. The site has seven moai, all of equal shape and size, and is also known as a celestial observatory that was set up around the 16th century.
What makes Ahu Akivi different from other moai sites on the island is that it is not on the coast and the moai are looking towards the ocean (whereas all other moai look inland). And just like other ahu, this ceremonial center is orientated astronomically since the moai look straight to the sunset during the Spring and Autumn equinox.
According to oral tradition, the 7 moai of Ahu Akivi represent the young explorers sent to explore the island before the arrival of the colonizers led by founder Hotu Matu’a and they are looking to their original home island.
Tahai Ceremonial Complex at Hanga Roa Easter Island
A Tour around the Moai of Hanga Roa on Easter Island.
The Tahai Ceremonial Complex is an archaeological site on Rapa Nui (Easter Island) in Chilean Polynesia. Restored in 1974 by the late Dr. William Mulloy, an American archaeologist, Tahai comprises three principal ahu from north to south: Ko Te Riku (with restored eyes), Tahai, and Vai Ure. Visible in the distance from Tahai are two restored ahu at Hanga Kio'e, projects that Mulloy undertook in 1972.
