During the Edo Period (1600-1868), Nagoya served as the seat of the Owari, one of the three major branches of the ruling Tokugawa family. Regarding the great wealth the family amassed, there were only four feudal domains that surpassed out of 200 of the Edo Period. The Tokugawa Art Museum was built on the grounds of the Owari's former feudal residence and preserves and displays several of their treasures including swords and samurai armor and tea utensils, noh masks and costumes, poems, scrolls and maps.
There is a beautiful Japanese landscape garden called Tokugawa-en next to the museum, that has a large pond at its center. The garden used to be part of a retirement residence of the local lords, but was ruined during the war. In 2001 the garden was rebuilt and reopened to the public in 2004. A large network of walking trails lead around the grounds to a tea house, rest houses, and across several bridges. The best season to visit the garden is during spring, when its Peony (mid to late April) and Iris gardens (late May to early June) bloom, and during the autumn season (November).
Access information
The museum is a ten minute walk from Ozone Station on the JR Chuo, Meijo Subway, and the Meitetsu Seto Line. JR Chuo Line is frequently operated to directly connect between Ozone Station and Nagoya Station (12 minutes, 200 yen one way).
In addition, to get to the museum, the Meguru loop bus line for tourists can be used, and from Nagoya Station it takes about 40 minutes or from Nagoya Castle it takes about 15 minutes. The fare is 200 yen per ride or 500 yen for a day pass.
Hours: 10:00 to 17:00 (entry ends at 16:30)
Closed: Mondays (or following day if Monday is a national holiday)

Admission: 1200 yen for museum only, 1350 yen for museum and garden

Shen Yun Performing Arts presents 5000 years of divine Chinese culture and is currently showing in the Aichi Prefectural Arts Theater in Nagoya, Japan. The President of the International School Of Art, Ito Miharu was in the audience. It's the third time he's seen Shen Yun and he is amazed that a new show can be produced every year.
[Ito Miharu, President, International School of Art]:
I feel the weight of five thousand years' history of Chinese culture. I think it's a wonderful thing. For Japan, China is like a parent, and we received the culture of food, lodging, politics, language, everything from China. So next time there will come an era for Japan to return these back.
Ito Miharu greatly admired the creativity of Shen Yun Performing Arts.

This year they added new creations for the dance, I think it's great. The difficulty of such perceptual expression, even for us Japanese painters, the pain of giving birth to a new work, is great.
He believes that Shen Yun's use of color, reflects the superiority of Chinese culture.
[Ito Miharu, President, International School of Art]:
During the creation, for example, giving golden color to the costume, giving a pale sky blue dress when flying up to heaven. And at first glance, people usually draw the color of gold or yellow....I think the color scheme is very well done. Compared to other countries, I think China is the best in this regard.
Ito Miharu was also impressed with the authentic paintings used in the backdrop.
Shen Yun will now visit Yokosuka for two performances on Sunday April 28th.

Nagoya, Japan - Oasis 21 (2019)
Oasis 21 is a modern facility located adjacent to Nagoya TV Tower in Sakae, Nagoya which was opened to the public in 2002. It contains restaurants, stores, and a bus terminal, as well as the tourist information.
The building is mostly underground, constructed in front of the Aichi Arts Center and facing the Hisaya Ōdori Park.
The roof is a large oval glass structure that floats above ground level. It is filled with water to create an interesting visual effect and to cool down the temperature of the shopping area and the public space for various events known as Milky Way Square below in the summer.
Nagoya (名古屋) is the largest city in the Chūbu region of Japan. It is Japan's fourth-largest incorporated city and the third-most-populous urban area. It is located on the Pacific coast on central Honshu. It is the capital of Aichi Prefecture and is one of Japan's major ports along with those of Tokyo, Osaka, Kobe, Yokohama, Chiba, and Kitakyushu. It is also the center of Japan's third-largest metropolitan region, known as the Chūkyō metropolitan area. As of 2015, 2.28 million people lived in the city, part of Chūkyō Metropolitan Area's 10.11 million people It is also one of the 50 largest urban areas in the world.

The museum's Collection features international and domestic fine art of the twentieth century. It covers art movements from the twentieth century up to the present with works by Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Gustav Klimt, and Paul Klee.

“Tokugawaen Garden” is a park of approximately 45,000 square meters in the center of Nagoya. There is a public library called “Housa Bunko” that houses the classics and “Tokugawa Art Museum”. It is a Japanese garden where you can enjoy the healing of nature, the charm of Japanese culture, and the autumn leaves.
Tokugawaen is located about 3 km east of Nagoya Castle. By train from Nagoya Station, take the Japan Railway Chuo Line for 12 minutes to Ohzone Station South Exit, about a 10-minute walk.
