Tokugawaen Garden, Aichi
Fantastic Places in Cool Japan :
“Tokugawaen Garden” is a park of approximately 45,000 square meters in the center of Nagoya. There is a public library called “Housa Bunko” that houses the classics and “Tokugawa Art Museum”. It is a Japanese garden where you can enjoy the healing of nature, the charm of Japanese culture, and the autumn leaves.
Tokugawaen is located about 3 km east of Nagoya Castle. By train from Nagoya Station, take the Japan Railway Chuo Line for 12 minutes to Ohzone Station South Exit, about a 10-minute walk.

Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium-Nagoya, JAPAN
Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium
Had the chance to visit Nagoya’s Aquarium, which I highly recommend a trip to visit. You can spend the whole day here, well maintain, and they have many ongoing shows. They do have some language services for the English speakers, but mostly everything is in Japanese. But hey, you’re in Japan. Nagoya Port also has an outside mall, where you can grab lunch, or you may eat inside. Outside of the aquarium you may get to see docked ships or see the bay. Hope you do enjoy this video, if you do please like and subscribed.
Shows saw: Dolphin Performance, Orca Training, Penguin Feed Time, and The Tornado of Sardines.

Nagoya in The Day
A Short History of Osu Kannon Temple
Originally Osu Kannon temple was situated in Osu-go, Nagaoka village in the doamin of Owari, which is nowadays Hashima city in Gifu Prefecture. The founder of this temple is known as Noushin Shounin (a holy priest)
In the 4th year of the genkyo era (1324), the Emperor Godaigo gave an order to build Kitano Tenmangu Shrine in Nagaoka Village.
As the Emperor Godaigo liked Noushin, he also took refuse with him in the shrine. Therefor, on the 3rd year of the Genko era (1333) the Emperor Godaigo appointed Noushin as the head priest of the Shrine and the same time Osu Temple was given the title 'Kitano-San Shinpukuji Houshyouin'.
In order to found the temple, Noushin retreated to Ise Shrin for one hundred days and prayed with great passion to ask who he should enshrine in the temple so that people would be rescued and blessed. Finally, his wish was granted. One evening he had a spiritual dream, in which he received a revelation which said that 'The Great Compassion of Kannon (Avalokitesvara) offers compassion which is of infinite benefit and is therefore venerable to all people' and then he saw the holy figure of which is of Kannon. This holy figure took the exactly the same form as the image of Kannon in Shitennouji Temple in Sessyu (Osaka) which had been carved by Kobodaishi (the Founder of Shingon sect) long time ago.
The mystery of the spiritual dream was heard by the Emperor Gomurakami who gane an order to relocate theShitennouji temple's Kannon to Osu Kannon Temple, and since then people devoted themselves to this image of Kannon. The spiritual power of Osu Kannon increased over time. The Emperor Gomurakami also took refuge with Noushin and gave an honorable royal order, in which he demanded new temple buildings, and a large area of paddy fields. He also requested that Osu Kannon Temple 'shall be a royal prayer temple'.
Noushin was very studious individual, and collected and many important text books which were stored in osu Kannon Temple's library (Shinpukji Library) and were also considered as sacred. Once a Shinto maiden brought him a high priest robe (sougyarii) and another time a deity brought a mask which was shaped just like a devil's head (Kimen). Then he told Noushin 'this mask is an embodiment of the Kannon, and therefore by the power of Buddha it can eliminate people's misfortune and give them happiness'. These objects are still kept as treasures of the temple.
Over the years, the spiritual power of Osu Kannon Temple became known around the country. Shinyu Shounin became the second head priest and Ninyu Houshinnou was appointed as the thrid. Each priest was son of the Emperor. The temple's land increased and most of the Shingon temples in Ise, Mino (Gifu) Owari (Aichi), Mikawa, Toutoumi (west part of Shizuoka) and Shinano (Nagano) were affiliated with Osu Kannon Temple.
After that, Japan entered the age of ward. In this perod Osu Kannon Temple received a large amount of farmland from Oda Nobunaga. In the 17th year of the Keicyo era (1612), Tokugawa leyasu built Nagoya castle and relocated the temple to the present location nearby the castle. Since then, a lot of believer have been paying homage at the Osu Kannon Temple which is commonly called 'Osu Kannon'. It Flourished as a center part of the city and to this it has remained a main temple in Chisan denomination.

[006] aichi Osu Kannon Temple
Osu Kannon is a popular Buddhist temple in central Nagoya. It was originally built during the Kamakura Period (1192-1333) in neighboring Gifu Prefecture. The temple was then moved to its current site by Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1612 after repeated damage from severe flooding frequently took place. The current buildings are those reconstructed in 20th century.
The main object of worship at the temple is a wooden Kannon statue, the goddess of mercy. It was carved by Kobo Daishi, one of most important figures in Japanese Buddhism. There is a Shinpukuji Library underneath Osu Kannon's main hall, where over 15,000 classic Japanese and Chinese texts are housed. Among these texts, there are several national treasures and important cultural properties, such as the oldest copy of the Kojiki, a chronicle of the early history of Japan including its mythological origins.
A flea market took place monthly on the temple grounds on the 18th and 28th. The modestly sized market includes about 60 stalls that sells everything such as antiques, souvenirs, second hand goods and clothes. Just beside the temple, there is an entrance to the Osu Shopping Arcade, a network of aging but charming covered shopping streets with over 400 shops and restaurants. The area is recognized as a counterpart to Tokyo's Akihabara district as in both areas, there are a lot of stores that specialize in electronics, cosplay, anime, J-pop and idol goods.
Access information
Osu Kannon Temple is only a few steps from Osu Kannon Station on the Tsurumai Subway Line. Take the Higashiyama Subway Line at Nagoya Station and transfer to the Tsurumai Line at Fushimi Station. It takes about ten minutes from Nagoya Station to the temple and costs 200 yen for one way.
Alternatively, the temple is a 5-10 minute walk from Kamimaezu Station on the Tsurumai and Meijo Subway Lines, through the shopping arcade next to the temple.
