Geraldton is a city and port in Western Australia located 424 kilometres (263 mi) north of Perth. According to the 2001 census, Geraldton has a population of 29,996. Today the city is an important centre for mining, fishing, wheat, sheep and tourism. Attractions
The construction of the St Francis Xavier Catholic Cathedral started in 1916 but was not completed until 1938. The cathedral was designed by Monsignor John Hawes who was both an architect and a priest.

The lighthouse located on Point Moore was recently repainted and established as another cultural attraction of Geraldton.

Geraldton is also an internationally renowned windsurfing location. The most popular spot is Coronation Beach, located just north of the town. Nearby
North of Geraldton is the town of Northampton, as well as the Hutt River Province, an area which claims to be an independent nation since its self-proclaimed secession from Western Australia in 1969.

The Houtman Abrolhos islands are 60 km to the west of Geraldton. They are famous for the 1629 wreck of the Batavia. A stone portico recovered from the wreck has been reconstructed at the local museum, along with other artifacts.

Twenty-five kilometres south of Geraldton near Walkaway a windfarm was completed in August 2005. It consists of 54 turbines, each producing 1.8 MW and 80 metres high with 40 metre blades.

The original port has be dredged to a depth of 9.4m at the berths, which is suitable for ships of 64,000 metric tons of deadweight (DWT).

In 2006, it was proposed to establish a new deepwater port at Oakajee, about 25km north of Geraldton. This port would serve the mining industry, especially iron ore.

Perth - City Video Guide

Perth, the capital of Western Australia, follows the Swan River from the port of Fremantle to its source in the Darling Range.

Sunny and clean, Perth is considered among the most livable cities in the world. Its cityscape varies from Art Deco gems, to the Tudor-inspired London Court. The Swan Bell Tower provides a bird's-eye view of the whole metropolis.

The Art Gallery of Western Australia describes the development of the state through art. Inside the Royal Mint is the largest gold coin ever made.

Perth's coastline, with pristine sand beaches, is popular among visitors. Others head straight for the boutique wineries of the Swan Valley.

Kings Park is where Perth's first explorers discovered a natural spring. The Botanic Gardens brim with remarkable plant species.

Rottnest Island or Rotto has long been the favorite weekend getaway for Perth's city dwellers.

Cottlesloe Beach is on the city's doorstep, and renowned for its excellent surf. Hillary's Boat Harbour and the Sorrento Quay boardwalk are ideal for a sunset stroll.

Mandurah WA WESTERN AUSTRALIA JAN 2008 PART 1 OF 3

Mandurah (32°31′S, 115°43′E) is a city sixty minutes' drive (72 km) south of Perth, Western Australia. Mandurah is the fastest-growing regional city in Australia, having experienced hypergrowth for several years. The city grew from isolated holiday communities along the shores of the Peel-Harvey Estuary, and, with the growth of Perth, it has become a popular lifestyle alternative. Mandurah's connection with the Perth CBD has been strengthened with the opening of the Perth-Mandurah railway line in December, 2007. A housing affordability survey of 227 cities in the 2008 ranked it the least affordable city in Australia. [2] The city centre foreshore is home to a variety of wildlife including dolphins, pelicans, shags, and an abundance of marine life including the blue manna crab which has become synonymous with the area. The city welcomes thousands of tourists every year, including many international visitors. Mandurah is famous for its protected waterways, superb beaches and excellent boating and fishing activities. A photograph of Mandurah adorns the cover of the 1986 album Born Sandy Devotional by The Triffids Geography Peel Inlet and Old Mandurah Bridge.The waters of the Peel Inlet and Harvey Estuary (one of Australia's larger inlet systems) form the centre of Mandurah. The estuary is approximately twice the size of Sydney Harbour. The city lies in and around this freshwater system which in turn feeds into the Indian Ocean. The city and its suburbs have many kilometres of ocean coastline most of which is sandy beaches.
