Kauai Island, Hawaii, USA 4K (UHD)
Kauai Island known also as the Garden Island. The tiny tropical island. This is one of the three Hawaiian islands that I decided to visit. I spent three days there, drove 315 miles by car and visited, incl. the places described below. My hotel was in the Kapaa area. It is geologically the oldest and northernmost island of the main Hawaiian Islands. Some parts of Kauai are only accessible by sea or air. Island is characterized by its wealth of lush, rich lands, including vast tropical rainforests, jaw-dropping mountains and stunning beaches. Part of Kauai’s unique charm is the fact that the island has remained relatively undeveloped.

Kauai by Helicopter | Hawaii
It takes a bird’s eye view from a helicopter to see what the Hawaiian island of Kauai really looks like and witness the natural breathtaking beauty of the Garden Isle.
Jenna and I had the opportunity to take a helicopter tour of Kauai during our last visit. We lifted off from the Lihue Airport towards Nawiliwili harbor and the Kauai Marriot Resort.
Our first air destination was the tropical Hanapepe Valley which is known for its fantastic rainbows.
Next we saw the 400 ft. high Manawaiopuna Falls made famous in the movie Jurassic Park and entered Olokele Canyon, the gateway to the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, Waimea.
We explored the spectacular and isolated NaPali Coast and saw majestic mountains, cascading waterfalls, secluded beaches and pristine cathedral cliffs.
As our flight continued past the ancient caves and terraces, our pilot and owner of Island Helicopters - Curt Lofstedt - shared great legends of Hawaii and its people.
We also saw Bali Hai and Lumahai Beach made famous in the movie South Pacific and flew to Hanalei Bay & Valley with a view of Princeville Resort.
Finally we flew inside the crater of Mt. Waialeale volcano where waterfalls cascade thousands of feet to the valley below.
Many other fantastic locations were seen on this tour including Wailua Falls seen on the 80's TV show Fantasy Island.
This is a tour you don’t want to miss during your visit to Kauai. In the meantime, enjoy the video we took during our flight. Thank you to Island Helicopters for the amazing experience.
Island Helicopters is one of the oldest helicopter companies in Hawaii, started in 1980. The company is family owned and locally operated. They specialize in very personal tours for the independent traveler, families or groups of any size. They are the only company where the owner, Curt Lofstedt - our pilot -, continues to fly tours.

One of the popular attractions in historic Hanapepe Town is it's Swinging Bridge over Hanapepe river. It is a pedestrian only bridge and can have only about 15 people on it at the same time. The swinging bridge is a suspension bridge and can get rocky with the wind condition.
It is an interesting place to visit if you are in the town. Currently the bridge takes you to the west side of the riverbank where Hanapepe Valley residents live. It is recommended out of respect for these residents that once you reach the other side, it will be good to turn back to Hanapepe.
Happy Traveling & Exploring! ????

A helicopter tour is the best way to see the hidden nature of Kauai. At first, everyone was nervous and freezing, but not long after everyone was in a position to take pictures. Unrealistic scenes that are not enough to explain just by the images in the camera. I looked at the helicopter and looked down at the camera, but I could not get enough of the magnificent nature. It was like an action movie. It's a totally different action god on the island of Kauai. If you do not ride a helicopter, you will see parts that you will never see. You can see all kinds of trees and terrain and see how the river runs and how the hiking trail leads. I can see the hidden secret beaches.

Known as the “sunny side” of the island, the south shore of Kaua‘i combines the old fashioned character of Kōloa and the refined resort lifestyle of Poʻipū. Popular for its sugar plantation origins, luxury vacationing, island style shopping, golf courses, restaurants and beaches, the south shore promises endless options for discovery.
“A remarkable gateway to the south shore towns of Kōloa and Poʻipū, the famous tree-tunnel road displays 500 eucalyptus trees that stretch for about 3 miles.”
Beyond the iconic tree tunnel, also known as Maluhia Road, Old Kōloa Town awaits. A key center for the island’s rich sugar cane history, this quaint town is a notable cultural region, where the Old Sugar Mill reflects the legacy of the plantation days. “Built in 1835, this large scale operation spawned the beginning of the largest industry in the state.”
Located in downtown Kōloa, the Old Sugar Mill is at the center of numerous shops, galleries, and dining opportunities.
Entering Poʻipū, famous for its continual sunshine, this area is home to numerous accommodations and luxurious homes accompanied by an abundance of shops and eateries.
The central Poʻipū traffic circle leads to many notable places, like Prince Kuhio Park, whose March 26th birthday is state holiday.
A must-see natural attraction, Spouting Horn Beach Park is the next memorable stop. An incredible place to observe this popular blowhole blast ocean spray into the air, this well-photographed site is more dramatic at high tide.
“Reaching heights of 50 feet, these bursts occur when water rushes under an eroded lava shelf, creating an audible hissing sound.” The lush green plant life of The Garden Island may be viewed in two National Tropical Botanical Garden’s which encompass 352 acres of preserved flora.
Located in the oceanfront village, Poʻipū Beach Park is one of the region’s most popular beaches, with safe waters for swimming, snorkeling, surfing, and family fun.
Brennecke’s Beach neighbors Poʻipū Beach Park, which both feature an abundance of marine life from green sea turtles (honu), monk seals, and humpback whales. Monk seals often sunbathe in the summertime, and in the winter months, whales dance upon the horizon
Marking the beginning of the Māhāʻulepū Heritage Trail, Shipwreck’s Beach is further east and perfect for long beach walks and beautiful sunsets. “Shipwrecks beach is a half-mile stretch of white sand, tucked away in Poʻipū’s friendly south shore resort town with abundant restaurants, shopping, and golf-courses.”
On the way to the unforgettable Māhāʻulepū Beach, you’ll pass the southernmost point of the island. This area encompasses many natural wonders that trace the coastline. Māhāʻulepū Beach has a wild character that is found in the archeological landscape. “This remote beach has strong currents and sharp coral, which makes it dangerous for swimming or snorkeling, but it is a great location for coastal hikes and exploration.”
The town of Kalaheo marks the end of this region, which has great restaurant and shopping potential. With an array of attractions, the sunny south shore of Kaua‘i has much to explore.

Helicopter Over Kauai
We chose a small door off helicopter. Except the pilot, it was possible to seat four people. It was safe to wear a seat belt, but after the take-off, it was a little scared. The wind blowing on the Head messed up the hair. However, when you see the scenery outside, there is no feeling of fear. I can't wait to start taking picture want of every corners that I can see.
I have experienced the legendary natural views that encompass the Garden Isle. Explore stunning Manawaiopuna Falls, often called “Jurassic Park” falls, surrounded by rich native flora in the gorgeous Hanapepe Valley. Fly over the spectacular views of the Olokele Canyon before hovering above the majestic Waimea Canyon, dubbed the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific.” Lastly, explore the magical 3,000-foot sea cliffs of the Na Pali Coast and the pristine turquoise-blue waters of Hanalei Bay, a truly unforgettable sight. And also a lots of good movies made here.

Kauai Helicopter Trip
For our 25th anniversary we vacationed on 3 of the Hawaiian Islands. It was an incredibly romantic and beautiful trip. But one of our most amazing experiences was a helicopter tour of Kauai with Safari Helicopters.
Since about 80% of the island is inaccessible by road, viewing it from the air is the only way to see the lush scenery. Our skilled pilot, Julia, did a wonderful job of showing us the island and providing information on many locations.
The 1-hour flight revealed amazing vistas that showed why Kauai has the nickname of The Garden Isle. Some of the beautiful locations we saw included:
The Hoary Head Mountain Range; the Hanapepe Valley; the Manawaipuna Waterfall; Olokele and Waimea Canyons; the Na Pali Coastline and Wailua Falls. We were also fortunate to have clear skies allowing us to fly to the summit of Mt. Waialeale where we were surrounded by dozens of cascading waterfalls. Absolutely stunning!
This gorgeous island has been seen in dozens of movies like Jurassic Park, The Hunger Games, King Kong (1977), Indiana Jones and South Pacific. And TV shows like Fantasy Island, The Amazing Race and Gilligan’s Island have been filmed there, too.
Hopefully this video reveals some of the beauty we encountered. Enjoy!
