Paratroopers in northwestern Russia received 35 of the latest BMD-4M combat vehicles!
Paratroopers based in Pskov in northwestern Russia have received a set of next generation combat hardware battalions which includes more than 35 BMD-4M air infantry combat vehicles and BTR-MDM armored personnel carriers ‘Rakushka’, the Ministry of Defense reported.
The seventh battalion military hardware set for Pskov paratroopers includes 39 items of next generation combat equipment: 31 BMD-4Ms and eight 'Rakushka' BTR-MDM vehicles, the ministry said in a statement.
Deputy Air Force Commander Major General Anatoly Kontsevoi was quoted as saying in a statement that this year two sets of battalion combat vehicles would be sent to Russian paratroopers.
All air strike regiment soldiers who have received military hardware have undergone training and retraining at the 242th training center in Omsk for junior Air Force specialists to learn to operate a new type of weaponry, the statement said.
The 14-ton BMD-4M air infantry combat vehicle is armed with a 100mm pistol which also serves as a launcher for Arkan anti-tank missiles with 34 rounds of ammunition and four missiles, 30mm automatic cannon with 500 rounds of ammunition load and 7.62mm machine guns.
BMD-4M is able to develop a maximum speed of 70 km / h and move in water at a maximum speed of 10 km / h. The combat vehicle has a crew of three and can also carry up to five attack force personnel.
BTR-MDM 'Rakushka' is a Russian armored personnel carrier developed at the Volgograd Tractor Factory. A 13.2-ton combat vehicle armed with two machine guns. It has two crew members and can carry up to 13 attack force personnel. RUSSIA: EMERGENCY SITUATIONS MINISTER PRESS BRIEFING (2)
Russian/Nat
Russian Emergency Situations Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Friday that Moscow was prepared to negotiate with Chechen leaders to ease the plight of civilians in the Chechen capital of Grozny.
But at the same time, the Kremlin said that it had no intention of giving in to Western demands of moderation in its devastating campaign against rebels in the breakaway province.
Russian Emergency Situations Minister Sergei Shoigu, attending a ceremony in Moscow on Friday, indicated that Moscow may be backing off from its ultimatum to the people of Grozny.
Earlier in the week, Russian generals ordered thousands of civilians and rebels remaining in the Chechen capital to evacuate by December 11 or face death.
But on Friday, he struck a more conciliatory note.
Shoigu indicated that he was prepared to hold negotiations with Chechen President Aslan Maskhadov.
It was the first time a senior Russian official had said he was prepared to meet the Chechen leadership since federal forces attacked Chechnya in September.
SOUNDBITE: (Russian)
I am prepared to meet with the devil if it will help those poor people who got stranded over there (in Grozny).
SUPER CAPTION: Sergei Shoigu, Russian Minister of Emergency Situations
He added that preparations were underway to help civilians leave the city.
But Shoigu reacted angrily to Western criticism of Russia's operation in Chechnya.
Shoigu and many Russian leaders are growing increasingly resentful of what they see as Western intervention in their affairs.
SOUNDBITE: (Russian)
For six months, we voiced our concerns to Javier Solana regarding the situation in Serbia, we were telling him that his actions in Serbia and Kosovo are unacceptable. He wasn't listening to us. Today all of a sudden Solana has decided to become a human rights champion concerned with events inside Russia.
SUPER CAPTION: Sergei Shoigu, Russian Minister of Emergency Situations
Former Prime Minister Yevgeny Primakov also warned on Friday that any action on the part of the West to impose sanctions on Russia for its campaign in Chechnya would disrupt the current balance of relations in the world.
SOUNDBITE: (Russian)
When it comes to economic sanctions against Russia. Should anyone decide to impose such sanctions on Russia it will disrupt a fragile balance that currently exists in the world, it will cause the problems not only for us.
SUPER CAPTION: Yevgeny Primakov, Former Russian Prime Minister
His comments came during a presentation of his new book in Moscow.
Primakov now heads a political bloc known as Fatherland-All Russia, a leading Russian opposition coalition.
He's been critical of Boris Yeltsin's trip to China where the ailing president went to get support for Russia's Chechnya campaign.
SOUNDBITE: (Russian)
I think (Yeltsin's) answer to Clinton is not adequate. One should only talk about the nuclear weapons when he knows that a direct aggression against him is being prepared. Then one could use such an argument. I don't think Clinton or anyone else for that matter is preparing to launch an attack Russia.
SUPER CAPTION: Yevgeny Primakov, Former Russian Prime Minister
Shoigu indicated that Russian forces would interrupt combat operations to let Chechen civilians leave Grozny.
He said buses would be deployed to take refugees to Russian-controlled territory.
But no further details of the plan were forthcoming.

Russian Military conducts military training exercise
The military is an arm of government authorised to use lethal force, and weapons, to support the interests of the state and some or all of its citizens. The task of the military is usually defined as defence of the state and its citizens, and the prosecution of war against another state. The military may also have additional sanctioned and non-sanctioned functions within a society, including, the promotion of a political agenda, protecting corporate economic interests, internal population control, construction, emergency services, social ceremonies, and guarding important areas. The military can also function as a discrete sub-culture within a larger civil society, through the development of separate infrastructures, which may include housing, schools, utilities, food production and banking.
The profession of soldiering as part of a military is older than recorded history itself. Some of the most enduring images of the classical antiquity portray the power and feats of its military leaders. The Battle of Kadesh in 1274 BC was one of the defining points of Pharaoh Ramesses II's reign and is celebrated in bas-relief on his monuments. A thousand years later the first emperor of unified China, Qin Shi Huang, was so determined to impress the gods with his military might that he was buried with an army of terracotta soldiers.[1] The Romans were dedicated to military matters, leaving to posterity many treatises and writings as well as a large number of lavishly carved triumphal arches and victory columns.
Etymology and definitions[edit]
The first recorded use of the word military in English, spelled militarie, was in 1585.[2] It comes from the Latin militaris (from Latin miles meaning soldier) but is of uncertain etymology, one suggestion being derived from *mil-it- - going in a body or mass.[3] The word is now identified as denoting someone that is skilled in use of weapons, or engaged in military service or in warfare.[4][5]
As a noun the military usually refers generally to a country's armed forces or sometimes, more specifically, to the senior officers who command them.[4][5] In general it refers to the physicality of armed forces, their personnel, equipment, and physical area which they occupy.
As an adjective military originally referred only to soldiers and soldiering, but it soon broadened to apply to land forces in general and anything to do with their profession.[2] The names of both the Royal Military Academy (1741) and United States Military Academy (1802) reflect this. However, at about the time of the Napoleonic Wars, military began to be used in reference to armed forces as a whole[2] and in the 21st century expressions like military service, military intelligence and military history encompass naval, marine and air force aspects. As such, it now connotes any activity performed by military personnel.
History
Military history is often considered to be the history of all conflicts, not just the history of the state militaries. It differs somewhat from the history of war with military history focusing on the people and institutions of war-making while the history of war focuses on the evolution of war itself in the face of changing technology, governments, and geography.
Military history has a number of purposes. One main purpose is to learn from past accomplishments and mistakes so as to more effectively wage war in the future. Another is to create a sense of military tradition which is used to create cohesive military forces. Still another may be to learn to prevent wars more effectively. Human knowledge about the military is largely based on both recorded and oral history of military conflicts (war), their participating armies and navies and, more recently, air forces.
There are two types of military history, although almost all texts have elements of both: descriptive history that serves to chronicle conflicts without offering any statements about the causes, nature of conduct, the ending and effects of a conflict; and analytical history that seeks to offer statements about the causes, nature, ending and aftermath of conflicts as a means of deriving knowledge and understanding of conflicts as a whole, and prevent repetition of mistakes in future, to suggest better concepts or methods in employing forces, or to advocate the need for new technology.
Organization[edit]
In the whole history of humanity, every nation had different needs for military forces. How these needs are determined forms the basis of their composition, equipment and use of facilities. It also determines what military does in terms of peacetime and wartime activities.
All militaries, whether large or small, are military organizations that have official state and world recognition as such. Organizations with similar features are paramilitary, civil defense, militia or other which are not military.

Commisar Danilov (Joseph Fiennes) gives Zaitsev (Jude Law) his first chance to take aim at Nazi officers.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
A turning point in 20th century war history is the focus of this fact-based account of the 1942-1943 battle of Stalingrad, in which the Germans were finally defeated by Russian influence -- one of the bloodiest battles in World War II history. The film stars Jude Law as Vassili, a marksman from the Urals who is transported to Stalingrad in 1942, and a master German sniper, Major Koenig (Ed Harris). Koenig, an expert German sniper, is determined to eliminate his formidable opponent by any means necessary; meanwhile, Vassili has joined forces with Danilov (Joseph Fiennes), a young Russian political adversary, who is impressed by Vassili's skills and raises his profile in the Soviet Union. Both Vassili and Danilov become involved with Tanya (Rachel Weisz), whose Jewish parents have been captured by the Germans and have forced her to take up with the men on a sniper expedition. Koenig and Vassili begin to develop traps for each other, until fate inevitably must bring the two sharpshooters together. This large-scale production, financed mostly by Teuton companies, also features Bob Hoskins as Nikita Krushchev and Ron Perlman as an aging Russian sniper.

Alexey Maresyev
Maresyev was born in Kamyshin to Russian parents.[1] His father was a skilled laborer who died shortly after he had returned from World War I. Before joining the army in 1937 Maresyev worked as a turner and then participated in the construction of Komsomolsk-on-Amur. In 1940 he graduated from Bataysk Military School of Aviation. He began his flights as a fighter pilot in August 1941. He had shot down four German aircraft by March 1942, but on 4 April 1942 his Polikarpov I-16 was shot down near Staraya Russa, almost certainly by future Knight's Cross holder and 48-kill experte Fw. Peter Siegler(3./JG-54)[2][3] and was nearly captured by Nazi forces.
Despite being badly injured, Alexey managed to return to the Soviet-controlled territory. During his 18-day-long journey his injuries deteriorated so badly that both of his legs had to be amputated below the knee. Desperate to return to his fighter pilot service, he subjected himself to nearly a year of exercise to master the control of his prosthetic devices, and succeeded at that, returning to flying in June 1943.
During a dog fight in August 1943, he shot down three German Focke-Wulf Fw 190 fighters. In total, he completed 86 combat flights and shot down 11 German warplanes. He was awarded the Golden Star of the Hero of the Soviet Union (24 August 1943), the highest military decoration of the USSR. In 1944, Maresyev joined the Communist Party and two years later retired from the army.
In 1952, Maresyev graduated from the Higher Party School. In 1956, he obtained a Ph.D. in History and started working in the Soviet War Veterans Committee. Eventually, he became a member of the Supreme Soviet.
He died of a heart attack on 19 May 2001, just an hour ahead of his official 85th birthday celebration.
Maresyev depicted on a 2016 Russian stamp
His story served as a basis for the novel by Boris Polevoy The Story of a Real Man and a subsequent film (1948) directed by Aleksandr Stolper where his name was changed to Meresyev. The novel also inspired Sergei Prokofiev's last opera The Story of a Real Man. In 2005 a documentary called Alexey Maresyev. The Fate of a Real Man was produced by Channel Russia.

SCRIPT
Drone footage captured sailors of the Russian Caspian Flotilla practicing for the Victory Day historic reenactment of the Battle of Stalingrad, near Volgograd, Tuesday.
During the May 9 commemoration ceremony, crews of the gunboats will recreate how troops were transported to the battle across the Volga before being sent to the frontlines to fight the Nazis. The event is to be kept as historically accurate as possible, with the performance involving blank shots from the guns as landing crafts deliver troops.
The reenactment flotilla will include the 'Makhachkala' Buyan class corvette, two river gunboats from Project 1204 and the 'Shark' landing craft project 1176 among others.
