We visited St. Maarten in February of 2019 during our cruise on Royal Caribbean's Adventure of the Seas. We visited the French side of the island and tried out an amazing bakery then took an excursion to snorkel off of Maho Beach where the airplanes land right over the beach. The water was absolutely amazing and among some of the clearest we have ever seen! Also, the Friendly Island was true to it's name. The people were so kind!

Celebrity Edge Cruise Ship docked at St. Martin. Walking from the Boardwalk to the ship..Did we make it back to the ship on time? Cutting it close! After the Culinary Adventure ~ Shore Excursion, #celebrityedge #stmartin #stmaarten we walked around the shops of St. Martin then headed back to the Celebrity Edge Cruise Ship. On the way we met Pascale from SXM Rally Tours, this is where you can rent these 4 seat Buggy's and tour the Island on your own. Next time we visit, we will definitely rent one. It's just a 15 minute walk from the ship, if you rent one, mention this video!!

Did St Maarten Recover from Irma and is it safe? Visit Philipsburg, St. Maarten in UHD.

Is St. Maarten safe for visitors? That's a question that would require no hesitation in early 2017. However, the eastern Caribbean island of St. Maarten was devastated by hurricane Irma in September of 2017 and was somewhat slow to recover. Winds of up to 182 mph battered the island and torrential rains flooded most low-lying areas.

We were a bit hesitant at first when we booked a trip back in November of 2018 that included a stop in the popular cruise ship destination. We learned a lot about the island and the people in our visit to St. Maarten.

Sint Maarten | Saint Martin | SXM Airport Traffic

Maho Beach is a beach on the Dutch side of the Caribbean island of Saint Martin, in the territory of Sint Maarten. Due to the unique proximity of low flying airliners, the location is very popular with plane spotters. This is one of the few places in the world where aircraft can be viewed in their flight path just outside the end of the runway. Maho Beach is unusually close to the threshold of a runway, and is directly under the flight path, resulting in aircraft on their final approach flying over the beach at altitudes of less than 100 feet (30 m) feet above ground level. This makes the beach a popular location for photographers and video makers who intend to capture the aircraft approaching the airport.There is a danger of people standing on the beach being blown into the water because of the jet blast from aircraft taking off from runway 10. The local government warns that closely approaching and departing aircraft can result in serious injury and/or death. An additional fence has been added recently behind runway 10, in order to prevent people from hanging onto the main fence surrounding the runway to experience being blasted by the jet flow. On 12 July 2017, as Caribbean Airlines Flight 457 was taking off from the airport, a 57-year-old woman from New Zealand was killed by jet blast. The woman was holding on to a fence at the end of the runway when the wind blew her away, causing her head to smash into concrete.

The beach itself is white sand and has little to no vegetation because of jet blast erosion.

MAHO AIRPLANE BEACH IN ST. MAARTEN | HARMONY OF THE SEAS

~ Today was the sixth day of our ten day spring break trip on the Harmony of the Seas. Today we took a boat cruise to the famous Maho Beach on the western coast of St. Maarten, snorkeled, watched planes land and take off, and enjoyed lunch.
