Hiking on Beautiful Valley in Japan's Quasi-National Park - Trip in Mie pref. Japan
No. 50 - Akame-Shijuhachi-Taki or 48 Waterfalls of Akame in Mie pref.

A popular tourist spor, Akame-Shijuhachi-Taki or 48 Waterfalls of Akame is situated in Nabari city of Mie prefecture. This place is a beautiful valley which is composed of several waterfalls.
It is in fall that most visitors flood into this valley. What they are coming for is beautiful autumn leaves here.
On the last week of November, I visited this place wishing to see such a beautiful valley covered with fall foliage. But it was a bit too late. The rain of the last 2 days swept away almost all leaves before my coming. Nevertheless, this place facinated me a lot with a comfy sound of bubbling water, and small but graceful waterfalls, and a clear and cool air from the woods.
Although this spot is off from major tourist cities in Japan, I'd like you to stop by if you get a chance.
I suppose you can enjoy a nice hiking in Japan's small beautiful nature.
Thank you.

Akame Shijuhachitaki Falls!
Went to Akame-shujuhachi-taki waterfalls last Sunday....a definite out of the box adventure. Enjoyed the hike, onsen and local delicacies!
Here's a bit more about these waterfalls: Akame-shujuhachi-taki is a collective name for numerous big and small cascades in the valley of about 4km length, situated at the upstream of Taki River that flows at the border of Iga and Yamato. Among these waterfalls,Fudo-taki, Senju-taki, Nunobiki-taki, Ninai-taki, and Biwa-taki are called Akame-gobaku and especially beautiful.
It will take 3 hours to visit these waterfalls, you can surely enjoy the distinct cascades as well as the beauty of nature such as surrounding greenery and mountain streams. These waterfalls are selected as the Best 100 waterfalls of Japan while the surrounding scenery is selected as the Best 100 forest baths. There is a campground facility at the downstream region of Akame-shujuhachi-taki where you can enjoy playing in the river with limpid streams.
The given name Akame (Red Eye) is based on the legend in which Fudo-Myoo appeared riding on a red-eyed horse in front of a practitioner who were performing cold water ablutions in a waterfall.
It was well worth the drive there, it took 2 hours to get there and if you want to hike the full course and take pictures.. you need to allow @5 hours to be safe, that is all the way to the end and back. It is a mostly paved pathway some a bit steep up the mountain , etc., there is a railing to hold onto. There are a few nice onsen in the vicinity for a refresher after your hike!
Here's a little explanation about the Akame-gobaku:
Fudo Fall: Height is 15 meters, width is 7 meters and at a depth of 10 meters. Fudo Fall is named after Fudo-Myo-Oh which is one of the Gods of Buddhism. Until the middle of the Meiji era (end of the 19th century) it was primeval forest further from here. You can see its magnificent view from the bridge over the ravine.
Senjyu Fall: Height is 15 meters, width is 4 meters and at a depth of 20 meters. The fall, rocks and trees make a beautiful artistic harmony. The way water fals looks like senjyu which means a thousand hands. It is said that it was named after Senjyu-kan-non which is one of the Gods in Buddhism.
Nunobiki Fall: This waterfall, falling from a height of 30 meters high, looks like a long strip of cloth. No one doubts that it is one of the most beautiful falls in Akame-shujuhachi-taki waterfalls. It is 30 meters deep and reveals the power of water in the hollowed out the rock!
Ninai Fall: This fall which split into two streams sandwich a big rock. It seems as if the waterfall carries a rock on its shoulder. Seeing from a higher place near Ninai Fall, you will find another fall just above Ninai fall. It is said that this is the most beautiful view in Akame-shujuhachi-taki waterfalls.
Biwa Fall: Last one of the best five. At a height of 15 meters, a depth of 10 meters, its indigo blue basin that is surrounded by a cliff looks like a bathtub made of rocks. Biwa fall is named after Biwa for its shape, which is an oriental stringed instrument.
