Welcome to Akaroa, NZ, by Cruise Ship
Akaroa is 75Km from Christchurch City and the main cruise port in
Canterbury.
Cruise Ship Tendering to AKAROA (Christchurch) l New Zealand Cruise Vlog l Ep. 11
It's a new day which means we are in Akaroa, New Zealand. (The gateway to Christchurch). This port is so picturesque and charming. This is a port that I would say you do not have to worry about booking an excursion in-there is a good amount of things to do on your own.
The excursion I did was booked through Norwegian Cruise Line though most cruise lines offer it. It is called: TRADITIONAL AKAROA FARM EXPERIENCE and here is the description from NCL's website:
“Experience life on a traditional New Zealand sheep farm, where six generations of the Johns family have their 900-acre property. A short ride brings you Paua Bay Farm, nestled among extensive gardens. The charming farmhouse is the centerpiece of this expansive working farm. As many as 4,500 sheep, cattle and deer roam the rural acreage.
You'll be greeted by Murray Johns, who will share stories of the family's history and about farming in New Zealand. Then, the eager sheep dogs take center stage and demonstrate their talents for herding sheep, while following their master's commands. If you'd like, you can participate in separating the sheep, before moving to the woolshed, where Murray will elaborate on the life of a sheep shearer.
In addition to watching farming activities, you'll also have time to stroll the garden of native plants and relax over tea and homemade scones.”
As always, make sure to watch in HD for the best video quality! Hope you enjoy! :)

Akaroa Harbour Cruise New Zealand
For more information & to book:
The historic French Village of Akaroa and its spectacular harbour is just a 90 minutes drive from Christchurch. Here you can cruise around an extinct volcanic crater and experience majestic scenery and stunning wildlife on daily harbour cruises.
Your cruise is packed with highlights including the rare, NZ native dolphin - the Hector's Dolphin, as well as penguins and other sea birds. And you'll see giant volcanic sea cliffs and hear about Akaroa's fascinating past. Cruises depart every day, weather permitting.
Your modern catamaran, the 60 foot /20 metre Black Cat, is perfect for viewing the natural wonders of Akaroa Harbour. The vessel is the largest and most luxurious on the harbour. There's lots of room on the two decks for unimpeded viewing and plenty of covered seating, for shade and shelter. Inside there's a bar and toilets. Relax, stretch out and discover the harbour with our award winning Black Cat Cruise team. Each cruise is fully narrated by your skipper who has extensive knowledge of the nature, wildlife and history of the harbour.
The highlight of this trip is undoubtedly the sighting of one of the world's smallest and rarest dolphins, the Hector's or New Zealand Dolphin. These friendly and inquisitive mammals meet the boat most days throughout the year and their calves can be seen between October and March. We have recently introduced a dolphin guarantee, if you do not see any dolphins on your trip you can return another day absolutely FREE!!
Also on the trip you will catch glimpses of the White Flippered Blue Penguin, the smallest penguin in the world. There are many different bird species in the harbour, including five different cormorant (shag) species and the endangered yellow-eyed penguin. You'll also see New Zealand Fur Seals sunning themselves on the rocks near Seal Bay.
We will stop at Lucas Bay to look at a salmon farm where thousands of salmon from fingerlings to adult fish are farmed in a series of cages. You will see them jumping as we approach the cages. This is where the world-famous 'Akaroa Salmon' is raised.
On each two-hour cruise we will endeavour to show you wildlife plus the many sea caves and volcanic cliffs. As Akaroa Harbour was a live volcano millions of years ago, there are many spectacular ancient lava flows to be seen. One cliff has a sheer 500-foot face and a fascinating history, while Nikau Palm Gully is the southernmost limit for these tropical palm trees. There is also the incredible Scenery Nook, an amazing pink, purple and red volcanic amphitheatre that will take your breath away.

Akaroa, New Zealand
Recorded January 14, 2007.
Akaroa is a village on Banks Peninsula in the Canterbury region of the South Island of New Zealand, situated within a harbour of the same name—the name Akaroa is Kāi Tahu Māori for Long Harbour. Akaroa is 82 kilometres by road from Christchurch, and is the terminus of State Highway 75. The permanent population was 576. Set on a beautiful, sheltered harbour and overlooked by craggy volcanic hills, Akaroa is a popular resort village. Many Hector's Dolphins may be found within Akaroa harbour.
The video begins on a hill full of sheep as I look down on Akaroa Harbour. The rest of the video is of my Black Cat Wildlife Cruise. Here we cruise around an extinct volcanic crater and experience majestic scenery and stunning wildlife including the rare, native dolphin - the Hector's Dolphin as well as penguins and other sea birds. We also see giant volcanic sea cliffs.

Akaroa 2011
Another in a series of videos portraying the annual Akaroa Classic and Traditional Boat Show. This year's event was held after a difficult year for the people of Canterbury, a region in New Zealand that has been plagued with a series of aftershocks following a disastrous 7.2 magnitude earthquake in September 2010. November is springtime in New Zealand, however participants in this year's event were greeted with snow when they arrived in Akaroa on the Saturday morning. The remains of the snowfall can still be seen on the surrounding hills.
