My hometown was #Akashi #Japan. It is also home to Japan's longest suspension bridge known as the Akashi #KaikyouBridge. It is said to be the longest bridge in Japan and connects Akashi to Awaji Island. Living in Japan sometimes gives you great opportunities to enjoy so great Japan attractions so I decided to take a tour of this amazing #SuspensionBridge. If you need some inspiration for things to do in Japan, then I suggest you add this place to your Japan tourism list.

???? About Me ????
My name is Dan and I live in Japan. Smash the two words together and you end up with JaDan. I started the JaDan - Dan in Japan channel when I moved to Japan in 2016. I am a 30 something Yorkshire lad who was born and raised in Sheffield, which is deep in the heart of the UK. I moved to Japan in April 2016 to pursue a new career teaching English in a far off land. I am what some people would consider a nerd as I have a love for gaming, comic books and technology but I also love photography, sightseeing, meeting new people, experiencing new cultures and punk music.

The Magnificent Akashi Kaikyo (明石海峡) Bridge, kobe city, Japan
Akashi Kaikyo (明石海峡) Bridge is the largest suspension bridge in the world and it is located in Japan.
The total span of the Bridge is 3911 meters and the bridge is completed in early 1998. The bridge is used to connect the Main Island of Japan (from Kobe city side) to the Awaji Islands over the Akashi Strait. Since Akashi Strait is an international waterway, the bridge has to be really high. In addition, any construction of this size in Japan has to withstand massive earthquakes. All these variables combined make this bridge an engineering marvel and an architectural masterpiece.
I do not want to bore you with other statistics related to the bridge (wikipedia has a bunch of them), please enjoy the video of the bridge.
If you are traveling around Kansai region such as Osaka or Kyoto, please make a trip to Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, you will not regret it.

The Akashi Bridge is the longest suspension bridge in the world. It connects the Japanese island of Honshu with Awaji Island. Back in the day, people used to catch ferries across the stretch of water, but in 1955 155 people drowned during a storm. At night, the bridge lights up with many different colours.

The Akashi Kaikyo Bridge was completed in 1998 and connects the city of Kobe on the mainland of Honshu to Iwaya on Awaji Island. It is the 4th tallest bridge in the world and at almost 4 kilometres in length is the world’s longest suspension bridge. It spans the Akashi Strait (Akashi Kaikyo) a dangerous waterway that often experiences severe storms. There is a Bridge Exhibition Center at the foot of the Kobe side of the bridge that provides excellent information about the bridge as well as other suspension bridges around the world.
