Japanese Fall Festival - Takeda no Aki Matsuri
Buried in the mountains of Hyogo prefecture is the small town of Takeda recently made famous for its picturesque castle ruins dubbed the Machu Picchu of Japan. I was there during the October holiday of sports day (2nd Monday of October) visiting a friend and accidentally bumped into this cool autumn festival where they have these very ornate floats of gold and silver which are lit up at night.
The people run the floats up and down the street and occasionally lift them all the way into the air which is quite a feat considering some of the floats have anywhere from 2-6 people on them.

Kubota Castle Ruins - Akita - 久保田城跡 - 4K Ultra HD
Throughout the Edo period, Kubota Castle, located in the prefecture of Akita (northern Japan), was home to the Satake clan, daimyo of Kubota Domain, rulers of northern Dewa Province. Reassigned to Dewa Province from the clan's ancestral territories by Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1602, Satake Yoshinobu immediately started the construction of the Kubota Castle and it is only in August 1604, two years later that the Castle and its keep was finished.
Thanks to its wealthy lands and prosperous farmers, the small city around the castle started to grow year after year and what used to be known in the past as the Kubota Castle Town is now, Akita city, the administrative center of Akita prefecture.

ETHEREAL SIN was formed in 1997 by Yama Darkblaze in Kobe, Japan.
Their main inspirations have been Animism and early Paganism.
They describe their sound as Elegiac Black Metal, a blend of symphonic black metal and oriental melodies with fast dramatic orchestrations and a male/female leading vocal duo.
Following a few early underground releases, the band had to take a long break due to Yama's serious personal issues.
In 2007, following several lineup changes, Ethereal Sin was finally reborn from its ashes, now based in Tokyo.
In 2009, Ethereal Sin released their 1st full length album: The Abyss will also gaze into thee.
In 2010, they released a 2nd EP: The Psalms of Forgotten Saga, followed by their 1st Live DVD Live at the Stormy Night in 2011.
They started touring more frequently and aggressively, quickly conquering many metal fans across Japan's dark underground scene.
In both 2012 & 2013, they qualified for Metal Battle Japan's final stage but unfortunately didn't manage to win the gold.
In the meantime, they decided to re-record completely their early material and re-released their 1st album in Feb 2013. They also had the opportunity to play at Hammersonic, the Biggest Extreme Metal Fest in Southeast Asia, headlined by CRADLE OF FILTH. Later that summer, they toured Japan with Australia's NE OBLIVISCARIS, then with black metal legends MARDUK while promoting their latest album release: Millendium.
In 2014, they continued touring actively, supporting PERSEFONE, FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE and ENTOMBED A.D. during their respective Japan tours. Later that year, they played on their first headliner tour in China and toured Korea & Japan with CATAMENIA while promoting their new split album (with DARK MIRROR OV TRAGEDY), and also appearing in Japan's Metal Pagan Alliance with MOONSORROW and ALESTORM.
In early 2015, they once again supported MARDUK on their latest Japan tour, then played in Korea for DARK MIRROR OV TRAGEDY's 10th anniversary event.
Following a couple more member changes, they once again decided to battle hard for their Wacken dream and entered Metal Battle Japan's final for a 3rd time. Their ever-improving performance and unbreakable samurai spirit finally earned them the opportunity to play at Wacken's holy land, and they now prepare to raise the Japanese Metal flag high and continue to conquer new territories across the Metal planet.
CHERRY BLOSSOM SEFLIES & MATSUMOTO CASTLE | JAPAN VLOG 2018
Welcome back to another Japan vlog. In this vlog I take you guys along with me from Ikebukuro to Matsumoto and back. My partner and I used our JR passes to go from Ikebukuro to Shinjuku then transferred to a train heading towards to Matsumoto.
On the way there we did not reserve our seats and just hopped on the non-reserved section. It was a pretty packed train. We were lucky to get seats. The train ride from Shinjuku to Mastumoto takes roughly 2 hours and 30 minutes. Once there we walked to the Matsumoto castle which was a beautiful! Some of the streets were lined with Cherry Blossoms.
The castle grounds were so pretty! it was well maintained and again heaps of cherry blossoms. There is an entrance fee to entre and explore the castle itself but it was so worth it. If you have bad knees probably skip it as the stairs are traditional and very steep.
When we had taken all of our photos and explored pretty much all of the grounds we decided to head back to the station. This time we decided to get reserved seats. We went to the JR ticketing office to use one of the machines but one of the lovely staff members did the reserving for us which was really nice of them.

Kōjō no Tsuki (荒城の月 lit. The Moon over the Ruined Castle?) is a Japanese song written in the Meiji period.
Japanese pianist and composer Rentarō Taki composed the music as a music lesson song without instrumental accompaniment in 1901. The song was included in the songbook for Junior High School students. The music of the song was inspired by the ruins of Oka Castle whereas the lyrics, written by Bansui Doi,were inspired by the ruins of Aoba Castle and Aizuwakamatsu Castle.

Aoba Castle, Sendai (1938). It was destroyed by the fire-bombing of Sendai in 1945.
Taki's original version of the song is a B minor song, but Kosaku Yamada's slow-paced nostalgic D minor version is also popular as an accompanied song. Taki's original version of the song uses E♯ on the second bar, but the modern version usually uses E probably because the original version did not fit the traditional Japanese music.
Japanese tenor singer Yoshie Fujiwara put his singing of the song on a record in 1925. He was the first Japanese singer to popularize the song throughout the world.
A jazz arrangement was recorded by Thelonious Monk under the title Japanese Folk Song on his 1967 album Straight, No Chaser.
The song was sung and recorded live in the form of a power ballad by the German heavy metal band Scorpions, during a concert at the Nakano Sun Plaza in Tokyo. It was released on their 1978 live album Tokyo Tapes. The band's version was one of rare tracks following Taki's original version quite well. This Song was also performed by Yngwie Malmsteen during the 1984 Alcatrazz Japan Tour. A live recording of his performance at the Sun Plaza Tokyo was released on the Metallic Live DVD of Alcatrazz. Takeshi Terauchi & Blue Jeans, a Japanese band, did an instrumental rock cover of Kojo no Tsuki on their album Let's Go Blue Jeans.

Kojo no Tsuki (The Moon over the Ruined Castle)
'Kōjō no Tsuki' (荒城の月) is one of the most famous Japanese songs ever made. Rentarō Taki composed it in 1901. The lyrics were written by Bansui Doi, who came from Sendai, the largest city in the Tōhoku Region. The lyric of the song was inspired by the ruins of Aoba Castle and Aizuwakamatsu Castle, in Fukushima Prefecture.
This video is dedicated in memory of David Wong (1954-2011). He was my YouTube friend who suddenly died two years ago. I called him 'Chinese samurai', and that made him smile. He said me, It kind of make me laugh, that I had been called samurai; I am not Japanese, but I always respect the codes they follow, I have to say I just try to be good, far from respectable! Haha.
David, we will never forget you. Sleep well, buddy. For me, you are a role model as a man: to live for something, to die for something!
