Akita (秋田市 Akita-shi, Japanese: [aꜜki̥ta]) is the capital city of Akita Prefecture, Japan, and has been designated a core city since 1 April 1997.
The city, which covers an area of 906.09 square kilometres (349.84 sq mi), had an estimated population of 314,662 in October 2016, giving a population density of 347 persons per km2.
The area of present-day Akita was part of ancient Dewa Province, and has been inhabited for thousands of years. The Jizōden ruins within the city limits are a major archaeological site with artifacts from the Japanese Paleolithic period through the Jōmon and Yayoi periods. During the Nara period, the Yamato court established Akita Castle in 733 AD to bring the local Emishi tribes under its control. The area was ruled by a succession of local samurai clans in the Sengoku period, before coming under the control of the Satake clan of Kubota Domain during the Edo period. Under the Tokugawa shogunate, a castle town developed around Kubota Castle.

In May 2019 I visited Tohoku, Japan with my boyfriend. We only had 4 days so we went to Aomori and Akita prefectures. It was a great time to visit since it wasn't too cold. Before this trip, we visited Hokkaido (check out my Hokkaido video link below)

Andrea Hirata was kind enough to come to the cold Akita, to give a talk about his book, Laskar Pelangi.
During his lecture, Meda, the singer for the Laskar Pelangi TV series, sang Laskar Pelangi songs composed by Andrea. Katoh Hiroaki, the translator from the original Indonesian to Japanese, also came.
Afternoon in Aomori
The guys are hungry for some ramen and go searching for a very popular restaurant in Aomori with a special dish: Butter Ramen!! An Aomori specialty and damn is it good! Then the guys head over to the visitor center by the famous Aomori bridge for an unobstructed view of the city from the observation deck. After a full day of hangin' out, they grab a quick beer and board the train back to Misawa. This is the final of a 3-part Aomori episode.

This project is built with my love hehe it's a language school and course that I wish existed when I was studying Japanese..
We have combined language with culture and experience.
Learning the language is not enough, you need to immerse yourself in the culture to understand the language better and what better way to do that than in the Japanese countryside?
There are so many people who study in the big cities, but they don't get to experience this deeper side to Japan and tend to survive without speaking Japanese in their daily lives.
Being in the Japanese countryside and doing the activities included in the course, it forces you to get out of your comfort zone and practice what you learn in class in a real life setting.
My experience in the countryside of Japan changed my life and it's brought me to where I am today so I hope letting more people experience the countryside will also bring some value to them in one way or another :)

Japan Vlog #2 At Akita
Welp, im here! (There's more down there ↓)
The first rather loud place is the Haneda-Tokyo Airport.
The second is a video game/ manga shop near AIU.
So.. stuff at Aeon Mall isnt all that expensive compared to the U.S. (in Akita at least). Many of the prices for clothes and shoes and things like that aren't too high. The vending machines are really cool and so far i've only tried the green tea. Most of the vending machines really have the same items and coffee seems to be among the cheaper items in the machine available for purchase. Aeon mall is pretty large. There are mini-mart type store in there and tons of places where one can but clothes, food, utensils, whatever. They also have ATM machines. Um... the room is small but its beginning to feel a bit more comfortable. The bunk bed isn't too bad because the frames are pretty sturdy, there are large wooden bed-guards (if that's what they're called) and it doesn't really seem that high up (i'm taller than the bed). My roommate hasn't returned from break yet but I hope to meet him when he gets here. And.. yep that's about it..

Japan Akita Senshukoen May 2017. Akita a quiet small town but you can drive to Tazawa Lake. Can drive up to Mount Iwaki enjoy the onsen from real volcanic water and see the beautiful view from Mountain peak. From Akita you can take train to Aomori. Rent a car at Akita airport. Get the rental company to set gps to English just key in the phone number of the place you want to go. The highway is only one to two lane to and one to two lane way back. Max speed 70km. Along the way they have cameras fixed on the centre amco guard. The highway police job is simple, just wait at the exit to issue speeding ticket. Unless you can do the Van Diesel fly down to the valley. Don't think you can escape. Everything in Japan is expensive. Go online check out the speeding fine. Don't think is in hundreds. Save the money to pay for return ticket better. Enjoy your driving with the car behind flashing headlights at you. Ha ha.

This is where you drop off your dog, and 2-weeks later you pick up a dog that is flawless outside, off-leash, with distractions! [The Incredible Japanese Prison Break]
Aomori, Japan. 1936. Prisoner Yoshie Shiratori had had enough.
He was forced to confess to a murder he did not commit, falsely imprisoned in Aomori Prison, beaten and tortured every night by prison guards, and, now worse, prosecutors were seeking the death penalty. In his mind, it was time to go; but Aomori Prison wasn’t the easiest to escape.
Regardless, Yoshie Shiratori had nothing to lose, and so at 5:30 am he made his move. He knew there would be a 15 minute gap in the patrol time as he had studied the guards’ routine for months; and when the coast was clear, he pulled out a metal wire (which he had smuggled in from the bathhouse) and started to pick the lock. (This was originally the metal support ring that was wrapped around the bathing buckets inmates used to wash themselves).
His hands were stiff from the wintry cold, but after a few minutes of picking, he had success, and his cell door swung open. But he wasn’t out of the woods yet, because there were more locked doors ahead. He knew he only had a few minutes left before the guards would return, and so he wasted no time attempting to pick his way through the remaining security doors.
Now fortunately for him, he was able to make it out of the facility, but the bad news was that he was only halfway to freedom. You see, he was still well within the search perimeter, which meant at any moment the alarm could go off and he’d still be caught.
At 5:45am the guards returned, peering into his cell; and this is what they saw - Shiratori sound asleep in his futon bed. ...
