Japan Off The Beaten Path: Autumn In Akita Prefecture | Japan Travel Guide
Japan Off The Beaten Path is a new series on my channel, where I show you more of the unknown areas/prefectures in Japan and encourage you to travel and visit areas other than the common places such as Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka.

As for transportation, it takes 4 hours to get from Tokyo station to Akita station via the Akita Komachi Bullet Train.
It costs around ¥17,000($160 USD) however if you have the JR pass you just have to pay the small fee of the reserved seat on the Shinkansen(all seats are reserved).
Or if you are going up to Hokkaido or coming back down from Hokkaido, you can change at the Shin-Aomori station and take the local JR train down to Odate station.
Going back to Tokyo from Shin-Aomori station is also possible by taking the Hayabusa bullet train. (Around ¥17,000)
Even though Akita is in Japan, each prefecture is so unique in it's own way - I learned so much from this trip and could see a different side of Japan.. I hope to share this kind of Japan more and more with you through my channel :)
and lastly, a big big big thank you to my friends at Akita Inu Tourism for showing me around Akita!!!! Couldn't have done this video without you!
Subscribe and join me on my journey! ☺

Akita, Japan - Akarenga Red Brick Folk Museum (2019)
Akita (秋田市 Akita-shi, Japanese: [aꜜki̥ta]) is the capital city of Akita Prefecture, Japan, and has been designated a core city since 1 April 1997.
The city, which covers an area of 906.09 square kilometres (349.84 sq mi), had an estimated population of 314,662 in October 2016, giving a population density of 347 persons per km2.
The area of present-day Akita was part of ancient Dewa Province, and has been inhabited for thousands of years. The Jizōden ruins within the city limits are a major archaeological site with artifacts from the Japanese Paleolithic period through the Jōmon and Yayoi periods. During the Nara period, the Yamato court established Akita Castle in 733 AD to bring the local Emishi tribes under its control. The area was ruled by a succession of local samurai clans in the Sengoku period, before coming under the control of the Satake clan of Kubota Domain during the Edo period. Under the Tokugawa shogunate, a castle town developed around Kubota Castle.

Japan’s Most Faithful Dogs The Akita Inu
A breed native to Japan, the Akita Inu is a dog categorized as a large-size with a round face, triangular ears and a curly tail. Although these are big, tough animals, they have a gentle, affectionate nature and are known for their devoted loyalty. Treasured in the past as hunting dogs, they fell out of popularity in recent years, so in response, the birthplace of the Akita Inu, Odate City in Akita, began a program to breed and promote them, conducting a range of PR activities that include a petting space in the tourist office where visitors interact with the dogs. Recently, thanks to publicity from celebrity owners like figure skating champion Alina Zagitova, the Akita Inu has surged in popularity overseas too..

ANA introduces Winter Akita with Japanese hospitality
Odate (Japan), Jan 31 (ANI): All Nippon Airways recently introduced popular sightseeing places of winter Akita- the capital of Akita prefecture in Tohuku region of Japan, which is well known for culture and traditions. Odate City is famous as the birthplace of Akita dog and there are many facilities related to Akita dog here. Akita Dog Museum is also one of them. It displays a range of artifacts and materials relating to the history of Akita dogs. It was built to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Akita Dog Preservation Society and is the only museum in the world dedicated to Japanese dog. Close to the museum is Akita Dog Kennel. “Itay Angel” is an Akita Dog breeder from Israel. He got his first Akita dog 19 years ago. Drawn by the dog's physique he moved to a new place here in Odate city four years ago, to breed Akita Dog. Another famous culture of the region is “Namahage”. It is a local event that is well known all over the country. During the dark hours of December 31 or January 15, ogres walk from house to house calling, “Are there any kids not listening to their parents lecture?” For the people of Oga, Namahage are divine spirits that bring good health and bountiful harvest from the field, mountain, and sea for the upcoming year. The home that welcomes Namahage, ancient rites of hospitality are observed to provide sake and food for the ogres. Namahage Museum located in Oga city is the best place to learn about the tradition and history of Namahage. 3 to 4 times a week, master carver, “Ishikawa Senshu” comes to the museum where visitor can watch him at work making mask. There are also 150 ogre masks and costumes used in past events. Many kinds of Namahage are very impressive. There are still many interesting spots in Akita Prefecture with unique history and culture that attracts many people.

Akita, Japan - Senshu Park & Kubota Castle (2019)
Kubota Castle (久保田城 Kubota-jō) is a Japanese castle in the city Akita, Akita Prefecture, Japan. Throughout the Edo period, Kubota Castle was home to the Satake clan, daimyō of Kubota Domain, rulers of northern Dewa Province. The castle was also known as Yadome-jō (矢留城) or Kuzune-jō (葛根城). In the official documents of the Tokugawa shogunate, the castle was called Akita-jō (秋田城), although this name is now more commonly used to refer to the Nara period fortified settlement of Akita Castle which was nearby.

Under the Tokugawa shogunate, a castle town developed around Kubota Castle.

Godzilla Seen Breathing Fire on Cape Shiosezaki, Akita Prefecture | Nippon.com: Japan in Video
The rocky coastline of Cape Shiosezaki faces the Sea of Japan on the south side of the Oga Peninsula in Akita Prefecture. Definitely and the most distinctive feature of this coastline is “Godzilla Rock” (Gojira iwa), so named in 1995 because of its striking resemblance to the cinematic monster. The shore is full of rocks deposited by an erupting volcano and weathered by the wind waves over the ages. There are so many, in fact, that the Godzilla Rock can be hard to find during the day. But at sunset the silhouette of the monster stands out clearly against the western sky. And in October, when the sun sets by the outcropping, a trail of glowing clouds can make it look like Godzilla is blowing flames from his mouth—a great photo opportunity for visitors. Other nearby formations include “Godzilla’s Tail” and “Gamera Rock.” The area is also dotted with spots for playing on the rocky waterfront, making it a popular destination for families with children.
